Hardly surprising; early death is a common trend amongst Putin's critics.

Bottom line, you don't know who did it and for what reasons. Throwing around the blame is just propaganda, and so far I've only seen the US one.

The matter speaks for itself: people who publicly oppose Vladimir Putin tend to end up dead.

That's no different from saying people who like flowers tend to end up dead. You have to prove the connection between Putin and the deaths of his political adversaries, which you cannot.

That's a few days old already, you're getting slow.

The theory that Nemtsov was killed following an order from Putin or someone from his surroundings is very weak because at this point he was no threat for the government and his death is far more likely to discredit it rather than to improve its standing among the population. So let's be a bit rational, shall we? Putin has... what, 80% or so popular support and suddenly decides to kill an opponent who is not a problem for him, in front of Kremlin no less? Yeah, sounds more Hollywoodish than probable.

I don't believe anything actually. Putin might have ordered it, but he might have not. I'm not going to be as gullible as to believe any kind of propaganda the Russian or the US media throws at me. I'll just stick with the facts.

i call it bullcrap on this "political assassination".

this nemcov fellow loved women of the oldest proession known to man, which is not huntig and gathering by the way.

who controls these broads? the ye olde ivan mafia. and the guys are very protective on their "merchandise". you don't want to bleep with them, 'cause many are boneheaded oafs who used to be boxers, afghan vets and god knows what else.
or perhaps he failed to pay them for "protection".

this whole murder has bandits written all over it. and bandits which of many are now big fat oligarchs are still pretty much influential over at the Ivan's.

you just can't pin putin on every tiny thing. it's getting riddiculous.

BTW the baltics aren't yet invaded. maybe tommorow. good job soldiers of the USA!

Ah man. People defending the US no matter what, people defending Russia no matter what... When are people gonna realize patriotism is a flaw rather than a quality? Stop idolizing politicians like child do with their parents or super heroes. Be your own individual self.

Yes, it happens that higher up are evil jack asses. Deal with it. And finger point elsewhere if you wish, it's probably the only good counter argument!

It's true that Putin will hardly cry over Nemtsov's death but automatically blaming him for the murder shows nothing but bias and prejudice. Here's another reason to hate that eastern tyrant, on top of him being a homophobe and aggressor, very cute. What's even worse is that whatever the investigation shows - which I don't really expect to be very carefully conducted (and of course there's no way it will put the blame on the government) - people already know what really® happened.

But Mr. Putin declaring he's taking personal care of this investigation minutes after the crime was commited... this is just ridiculous. Everybody knows that he is the first and most obvious suspect in this case, and acting like nothing happened doesn't help him. People don't like to be fooled and threated like complete idiots.
Don't know about Russia, but nobody in the west will believe it was just an accident. The mere fact that Putin can be judge in his own case proves he's a dictator. Finding another one responsible for murder won't help this.

Well, people can give the benefit of the doubt to everybody if they want. I don't. More in OmegaDestroyer's camp here. People surrounded with a shady aura all their lives do not deserve the benefit of the doubt ; especially politicians and their ilk. We're all brainwashed into thinking that the law is the absolute moral form, something I disagree with too. No proof? In case of people like Putin or Bush, I don't care! But anyways.

Kip says we shouldn't blame Putin, we should blame the oligarch. What's the big difference between the two? The 1 % of the 1 % gathers up together and takes decisions on how to rule a country, and one of them decides to take care of this guy. Everybody else is like "hm, good initiative. I like that." That kind of scenario wouldn't motivate me to pull the law card.

If you know a murderer is near you and you don't even denounce him, you're guilty to me. Feel free to finger point at another country, I will probably agree with what you say. Ha.

Frankly this borders a conspiracy theorycrafting - you are convinced a priori and facts be damned. Why so? In general, the governments are rarely composed of people with incredibly high morals. In general, the governments of big countries are never composed of people with high morals. That makes them likely culprits in many criminal scenarios but doesn't make them certain ones. Logic says so, not me. Of course, if you want to point the Finger of Blame toward someone, nobody can stop you.

Oh, it's fine. You can say it. I am a conspiracy theorist. I'd rather be that than a sheep that goes on his life with a bounce in his step, unaware of the disguised wolves among us, humming the smurf theme song. If you wish to judge me, all I ask is that you acknowledge how I'm that way only toward politicians and cops and the like.

But yes, to concede something, yes, yes, it is possible that Putin and his crew has nothing to do with it. Must keep an open mind after all. From my uninformed point of view, it's all a matter of probabilities.

So many deaths around government circles at least indicates there is probably a "deeper state" within the state that operates with unofficial orders from some military/ex-military/intelligence/ex-intelligence bureaucrats at the core. Mafia wouldnt kill such a high level target over some prostitute, too much attention.

Turkey was like this during the 90's, in the most devastating days of the civil war. Politicians, journalists, government officials, generals used to drop dead like flies on a monthly basis. Not to stir up any conspiracy theories but there is always a chance that some "patriots" assassinate expandable people from their own side to create martyrs and discredit opposition. Zenofex has a point, why kill someone when he is no major political threat to you? But still, hardcore nationalists arent always that logical, so it can be some radical Putin supporters deep in the core also.

Assassination came a day before Nemtsov was to lead an opposition protest against Russia's actions in the Ukraine. Touchy topic. And yeah he was a vocal critic, although we don't know him here in the West. In fact he was bashing Putin on the radio just hours before the shooting...

But as we all know it is just a coincidence.
