What looks like a corporation, feels like corporation...

... but pays like a burger joint?

POLISH corporation, of course

Long story short: My new job looked decent - And my boss looked like a sane man, which is welcome. So I kinda ignored that they pay 700 dolars per month. Heck, it's Poland - what can you expect.

BUT, I have been informed (with a slight delay) that there's no pay for the overtime, and no free days (as compensation for the waste of private life) either. And if things get busy, you're actually expected to sit there 12 hours per day, saturday included. or they will kick you out and find another slave who will obey without moaning.

How cute... God, why do I live in such a ****hole?

My colleague has made an interesting statement about Poland in general - people, who are able to change our conutry because of our membership in the EU are better to go elsewhere than stay here and change something, so rate of change is low. I would like to give you some sensible advice, however I live too short to be able to give you some advice.

700 dollars per month still isn't competitive enough

I recommend to work as much as it is demanded by a contract. Working more than that should be paid- and even more than normal salary

I know it is hard to argue with the employer- but the law is quite srict here (unless there are some special conditions or the issues connected with the nature- or just specialistic law)

i recommend to read chapter V USTAWA z dnia 26 czerwca 1974 r. Kodeks pracy1)- t begins since 149 article

Oh, I did tell them that.

The answer was "sure, you can argue. But don't expect your contract to be renewed if you do".

Wouldn't it be illegal for them to fire you for... complaining about them making illegal requirements, pretty much?

it is illegal and  it is possible to prove it before a court cause there have been many cases like this.

the problem is that it is not very efficient cause it will take quite a long time, it will cost a lot of nerves, money and time- and the refund will be rather small.

Not to mention that court cannot to force someone to renew contract or sign anyone. And afterwards empleyer can say that it is simply not true and there are state that there are other reasons why the contract was not signed/ lenghtened or just the employee has been fired- becasue there are some professional issues connected with  the quality of the work.

It can be proved that someone was fired/ contract not signed or renewed by reasons that are violating the law- but then only some money refund can be made, nth more

This will not make you happy but that travesty of justice is likely in most countries today; the U.S. has long seen a serious change in relations between employer and employee.

To me, things started heading south 2 decades ago and started with the U.S. Postal Service. At the time it was a common ethic that if a person took a job they would get a 90 day grace period where both parties would ensure they would work out, then the new employee would go full-time.

However, "THEN" new positions no longer had that age-old practice with more new temp-carriers added and having no set time to become permanent employees to receive their due benefits. What I found shocking about this bit was the fact that branches of Government are all overflowing with overpaid, over-rewarded and under-worked masses.
I don't remember the details but this happened about the time that the Postal Service began competition with private carriers like UPS etc. Yeah right, the founding fathers had all this Corp/slave snowe in mind. <aarg!>

woah, I finally got to it; the Corporation IS the biggest threat to world peace and anything else good for people or planet.

look on the brightside Doom, at least you're not wiping the bums of elderly brits or cleaning toilets, like many other Jaceks out there, and the rooskie still hasn't invaded yet.

But things might actually be a helluva lot better under Ivan control.

If it were Zimbabwe, you'd be getting paid $50 trillion a month, and it'd buy you a slice of bread.

Not anymore, even the national bank has pretty much phased out their internal currency and encourages people to use dollar, euros, pounds etc instead
