The green dragon from heroes 3 is my favorite. But the best black dragon goes to heroes 4 for sure! But visuals aside, I want blackie to return as the alpha predator of top tier creatures. Like he was in h1,h2,h4 and arguably h3.

Lol  I've actally been wrong all this time thinking the H4 one was my favorite. Im just a lost cause

YES! DRAMA !
Anyway, H3 gold dragons for me. to this day, the best mixture of western and eastern design. basic western shape with big ass wings yet more slender and snakelike than the black one and beautiful detailing like branch-like horns, beard, mustache, tail and the crest going all the way from the top of the neck to the end of the tail. absolutely stunning

Well, I meant out of the black dragons, Heroes VI were the best... I wasn't talking about all dragons in general.
And like I said, it was a statement from someone whose favorite Heroes games are III and IV, not from me.  Although I do admit that I agree with it.

She commented about beautiful wings though. I was even actually surprised, and brought up that most prefer fleshy wings, but Heroes VI design remained her favorite.

Mine is 2, then 5 and 3. 4 and 6 are tied as the worst, imho.

h2 had best blacks. 3 were too spikey though i liked h5 ones. they seemed well adjusted to cave life. H4 ones were a bit too lizardy and h6 are just plain silly.

My fav is H3 then H2/H5 (H2 is almsot identical to H3 but I like the spikes of the 3 version more // H5's design and animation was cool imo), H4 i don't like, it's like a chicken on four legs (animation was terrible), and H6 looks too out of place for me and not really a BLACK dragon, but like darkness elemental dragon or something, if you know what I mean. (animation was bad here too)

Why did the artworks of H2, H3 and H5 dragons didn't make it into the evolution chart? They would do much better, and I'm starting to actually get convinced by them.

Concept art is concept art, the actual H2 BD looks different from the H2 BD art.
The H3 BD render is just that, a render.
The one in the game looks the same, only less optimized.

I like the spikey head on H3 dragon.
...Still, the irony of H3 fans saying that the spikes are Ashan-only thing is not lost on me.
I like the overall design of H2 dragon, although it does look very cartoony...
...Geez, Ashan is so out of the line here, lol. I'm sorry, I just find it ridiculous that Ashan is bashed for something that NWC was doing also.
I still like the beautiful wings of H6 dragons - they really add flavor to this design.

Only thing cartoony about the H2 dragon is the stance, which is based on heraldry.
It's partly inspired by Chinese dragons from the looks of it, mainly the head.
My main gripe with the later dragons is they just don't look majestic at all.

Too many spikes, definitely, however they are relegated to the head and doesn't hinder said dragon much since they are all growing backwards giving a very streamlined appearence. ubi-spikes are always coming out of everywhere and in strange places and would only hinder in everything the creature/person does. there is a difference.

I... what? Being vibrant and colourful does not make a game cartoony or silly. H5 had silly and nonsensical designs (DE's, treeants etc). Those are what people complain about, not freakin' colours.
