Elena picked up small gun for 30 talars and left the market. As far she was concerned she was done for the day, or at least until evening so she left to practice some combat with whomever was available once she'd put away her new weapon.

Isabella bought one of the guns and then preceded to look at the other wares. She was always fascinated by the gnomish crafts, and was almost like a child perusing them. She eventually purchased some sort of puzzle box and a carving of a unicorn which she thought was adorable. Upon returning to camp she began messing with her box.

without much event's worth mentioning, evening eventually came. Folkin had finished the conversions of Francis' and Elena's firearms.
- I hope that my invention brings you victory in your endeavors- The gnome said while giving back the converted firearms to their owners.
Magnus and few others were busy roasting a large batch of partridges, which the dwarf had caught with a bit of help from John.
Dragomir was conversing with the two resident wizards.
- So, you two think we can take them on without much trouble?
- Yea.- Halfman replied- Probably. the prick is new to the doctrines, and what has my scrying revealed that about now he is only able to summon the lesser creatures of the void. Most likely void hounds and may have some impsto serve as their familiars. not the most dangerous of the void spawns, but should not be underestimated in any way.
Drago re-lit his pipe.
- anything else?
- Once we confront them, I may be able to summon an illusion which make us appear as a large force, rather than the forty something we are now.
- Or make it appear that we have a whole detachment of half-giants?- Drago asked. such tactic was used once, towards the end of the Mikayan Uprising, during a battle for the control of one of the most important towns in the Duchy.

Meanwhile, John was fiddling with his a purchase of his own. A thought preyed on his mind for a while now, that while he was a great asset as a melee fighter and an enormous human shield, there are some advantages to having a ranged weapon. He tried making bows big enough for him to use, but just couldn't get the hang of hitting ranged targets. Crossbows weren't much better. Pistols seemed like easy enough weapons, but he could not find any that would fit his huge hands.
So he was especially thrilled to find on display the modified small siege crossbow with bundled ammunition. The dwarf who sold it to John, jokingly called it the Piecemaker. The siege crossbow was big enough for John to use, even a bit heavy for the half-giant, and what it lacked in range or precision it more than made up in destructive power. When fired, it released not one, nor two but a bundle of over ten arrows at incredible speed. The arrows were simply crossbow bolts and would break under tension creating a cloud of wooden shrapnel traveling at very high speed and decimating everything in its path. The merchant said that the broken bolts fly so fast that they catch aflame from the air friction, but John had trouble believing that. Still, fire or not, this could prove useful for any big battles the company may find themselves in.

After receiving her gun, Elena went to the edge of town and set up a couple of targets to practice and get a feel for them both. She shot a couple of times, getting a bit more secure with each one until she felt it was enough and went back into camp and did her evening workout before dinner.

On the nesxt day after bidding farewell to the dwarven trade caravan, the company resumed it's march.
They passed through more burned and razed towns and villages.
the view persisted through a few days, while the company made their way towards Laziona.
surprisingly though, once they crossed into the neighboring duchy, there were no signs of ogre rampage.
It was indeed one of the signs that something is amiss here.
Having a bad feeling, Drago ordered the company to march in full battle gear.
The few villages they passed seemed empty, but there were no signs of battle. Just barred up doors and windows. It seemed that the peasantry was afraid of something, and it wasn't the Free Company.

John walked beside Dragomir. He left his new crossbow in the wagon, but aside from that was wearing his full armament as ordered.
"This is beyond strange, Dragomir. At first when I saw how peaceful this duchy is compared to the havoc the ogres wrought nearby, I just assumed that the driving force behind the ogres ordered them to stay out of this region. But now that I see these frightened villages... I just hope I was right before and that there isn't another force, terrifying enough to scare the ogres away."

Francis noticed the villages and their conditions, he initially was simply suspicious, then after some time he noticed they actually entered the duchy of Mantuania of the respected (and shady) family of Corneille Noire, now, worried more than ever in his life, he understood the peril they were facing and that most probably at his point his aunt was correct...
"Ack, thank Parkkun... We get to march fully armed, at least we won't run the risk of an ambush hopefully, even though I still have an horrible feeling about this"
He then approached Dragomir and noticed John was also there, he immediately said: "Well, my lords, I fear we may be getting in trouble here, the black crow is always watching here apparently, this is what my sons were supposed to rule, should I had accepted the price for it..."

- Indeed.- Drago replied.- I'm thinking that the ogre band was sent on sole purpose to weaken House Raddwil. I'm starting to think that there is something more to it than just getting the Relic. I'm sure you have noticed that each time we pass a village or a farmstead, if any smallfolk is outside, they rush back into their homes and bar the door.
Drago paused a bit, thinking. The amber carvings on his sword started glowing faintly. Drago noticed that.
- Do you see it too John?- he asked the half-giant. It was the first time that Drago's sword did such a thing. All the time it was just another blade, although it dated to the Age of Heroes.
- I wonder what it means.- Drago said.

John was watching Drago's sword with interest.
"You said that you've taken the sword to mages and no one found anything, right? And it's clearly older than any other weapon I have ever seen. What if... what if it has a kind of magic that predates the human clans? Something so ancient no man can see and understand? If that is the case than whatever it reacts to must be equally old. And that does not bode well. Not at all..."

- The only thing Halfman told me that the sword was indeed forged during the early Age of Heroes. I think the only one's to tell it's true potential are either the elders of either Samann or Amat clans. It was far beyond Halfman's power to properly identify the blade. My father, and my grandfather told me that the blade's enchanted, but so far the only unusual or magical thing about it was that it didn't require a whetstone. I can bash away the blad at dwarven steel all day, and the edge would still be razor sharp. But this glow... That's something entirely new to me. Some old legends state that some heroes had magical weapons that warned them against inpending danger. Perhaps this is it.

The threat was now on sight, a small group of knights was searching for someone, one of them separated himself from the group and started approaching the group while the remainder had stopped some meters away.
Francis then said to the others: "Hold for a moment, I wouldn't want to kill some friend, can I handle this?"
The knight then stopped, with his visor closed and addressed the group:
"Are you all by chance the Company of the Tattered Banner? If so, could you direct us to the man called Francis, son of Titus of Calandrie?"

The amber on the sword glowed more brightly than initially.

The knight then took a short pause, and continued:
"My other companions were actually more prone to the idea of running you all over, but I preferred a more diplomatic approach, in the end I believe this would be a shameful waste of lives. I could still ask them to come and charge you, but, I don't think lady Viola would be pleased to know that Francis could have been harmed in the process of bringing him back"
Francis then interrupted the knight: "Wait, who is this lady Viola you speak about, this is the land of Charles Corneille Noire, and my father knows of no Viola."
"The black crow is ill, his niece is currently the regent, as his daughter went missing."
Francis continued his questioning: "I don't buy that, I never heard of her, and you should know I was betrothed to one of the Corneille Noire, so I know the family pretty well"
"So you don't have a good memory then, anyway, I was speaking to your captain... If you don't want to submit Francis to us then... I'll go to my men for now, and we will return to the castle, I don't guarantee that you can stay safe for long in this lands though..."
And with these words the knight departed the group, counting on the code of honour that bound Francis and hopefully the rest of the group

Dragomir's remaining eye twitched.
- By the orders of his Grace, King Domerth, third of his name, I'm afraid we can't let you basterds go. You have the audacity to think that the orders of some lowly lordling wench can surpass those of your king? Francis of House Calandrie stays with us, and you die.- Drago unsheathed his sword and kindjal.
- Loose!- He commanded. the rear of the company fired their crossbows at the knights. many connected in a successfull hit, on either the knight's themselves or their horses.
Dragomir charged forward and clashed with the knight who talked to him. there was an unusual strong smell of various fragrance on the man, as if it was meant to cover up a stench of some sort.
A boulder flew by and smashed the head of another knight trying to counter Dragomir. that was Blackbird's doing. the disciplines he learned at Sequat had given him control over the element of earth. He could also form rock golems which would do his bidding for a short time. The wizard was doing just that, weaving a spell which had amassed a small amount of boulders to form into the golem. once the entity formed, it too charged forward to the knights sent to retrieve Francis.
Magnus was firing his crossbow at the enemy. once the magazine of his repeating crossbow was empty, the took his warhammer and wnet on to help Dragomir.
With a ferocious howl, a battle cry of his tribe, Allikha went forward along with his direwolf, who tackled one of the horses, biting deep into it's neck. The Arms master dueled one of the knights, with his yataghan sword in one and a war axe in another arm.
Other's too joined in the battle.
- Leave none of them standing!- Dragomir shouted to the company- No one escapes here alive!
