Comments on Dungeon and Sylvan Cores.

A comment before: Why do you call the abilities "battle abilities", taking away to possible have abilities for units which work outside battle?

Assassin & Shadow Blade
First, I never liked assassins being Core, especially a weak one here. To me, an assassin, other than a simple killer, cutthroat or such, is a rare elite force, with few members, excellent training and great equipment and thus, I can hardly view it as the weakest troop of a faction. But let's put that aside for now.
The backgroudn story is fitting, the description sounds interesting and the abilities sound interesting. Except that I think the second shall be invisibility (cannot be seen) and not invincibility (=undefeatable)?
The shadow blade seems a typical, fitting upgrade. I personally would rather have shot number a stat than making this an ability. But that is only formal.

Lurker/Watcher
Seems a solid approach on this, with very ambient background. How is mindprobe supposed to work (not ingame, but WHY does it work like it does)?

Fury/Erinye
THe weakest of the Dugneon cores to me (not ingame, but in how good I think they are). They somehow fail to convince me, and the name Fury seems very unfitting (Fury is similar to anger ain't it? I see nothing of that reflected in this  unit!)  There are a few interesting abilities, but a bit strong maybe.

Satyr & Hoplite
...Well, I am a bit traditional at this maybe, but Satyrn for me definitely are not half-stag, but half-goat! The Abilities are okay for half-stags, but the name should maybe altered. Also, for Satyrn as well for this unit, the mentioned talent for music shoudl get reflected, imo.

Archer/Sharpshooter
As I said before, to me, archer would not be my name of choice. For the background text...I would not use DNA in an homm, as it is so unfantasyish...rather make it "engraved in its blood", "writ in its blood" or something like that. Mobile shooter is strong but hey...its the elven shooter they are SUPPOSED to be awesome Speaking of which - the Giantslaying is nice on this unit, imo.

Pixie/Sprite
A perfect attempt on pixies, imo.

What about using greek furies instead? They fit pretty well in dungeon and add more diversity IMO.

I use the term battle abilities for what they can do in combat. I'd rather first try to balance those out before considering adding abilities that might have a use to the hero outside of battle, like i did with the Refuge faction (which turned out to need much more thinking)

Now, as for the Satyr, i know that it is supposed to be half goat, but in action the visual change would be minor. Legs will still look alike, horns will also be pretty much the same as well as the ears. So, having the Satyr be half Stag won't be that strange. I should also point out that we are supposedly in Ashan so i guess i can have that much freedom for doing that. If it is still too hard to the eyes, maybe i can name the unit Faun... I don't want to go as far as naming it Deerman or Stagman :/
- I don't know what ability i could give the Satyr to reflect the music nature of the unit. I was thinking about the Myrrh ability it had in heroes IV but dunno...

Haven never truly had an Archer. Archer is someone that uses bows not crossbows. So Crossbowman and Marksman is most fitted for Haven. Archer is better suited for the visual of the Sylvan Elf in my opinion so, i wouldn't change the name unless many think that it should. Also, we are talking about the most iconic unit of the elves so, i wouldn't mind it being one of the stronger core units.

As for Dungeon, the mind-probe ability comes out of Heroes VI, it is copy paste.

I could change the roster to Lurkers<Furies<Assassins. The idea was to keep the Matriarchal society to Dungeon as introduced with Heroes V, so the females could be portrayed as stronger than the males in the general feel (fast, agile, seducing and strong in magical prowess).
-Any ideas about Fury/Eriny alternative names??

Ah, the balancing reason certainly has a point.

For the satyr. Well, yes, you have that right, of course. After all, it's your proposal anyway. Between Satyr and Faun as names, I think I'd rather see a satyr stagman than a Faun as stagman as Satyr depicition was not always goat anyway (according to wikipedia, that is).

Well, it's predecessor in H1&2, the Knight, certainly had
But I get your point. On the elven shooter meant to be strong, agreed.

Ah, never played H6, so I had no idea...

The thing with the matriarchal society has a point. Maybe Lurkers<Assassins<Furies?
For alternative fury names...maybe adept? Darklimg? Darkblade? (Maybe too close to Shadow Blade?) Maybe Dark Daughter > Dark Sister? You could replace Dark with shadow on the last name as well...

The problem with the greek furies is that they would either be magical creatures or hybrid creatures made from wizards in the world of Ashan or something close to that world.
But i might keep your idea as a neutral creature of Dungeon.

The idea behind my Dungeon proposal is that these are the Female strong units of the Faction that can also work with the Shadow Witch.

Jiriki, i will consider the ideas you gave. I am considering a different namesake now.

I need some help with the Support unit of Dungeon Faction. Any ideas of what it could be and it could do?

The basic idea was to provide some boost like life drain or shroud or   make the attack of the target unit poisonous for the next turn. that sort of thing.

I think I'd like the shroud idea for dungeon...but how to make it work...

EDIT: Maybe you could have the Shadow Seer have one turn, and be able to target friendly units and make them invisible until after their next turn? OR that you can start battles with 1 invisible unit?

Hmmm... I'll have a little patience and wait to see how the Shroud of Malassa works in Heroes VII and see how i will modify the support for Dungeon.

Thnx Jiriki for the ideas. Will keep them in mind.

Any other observations / ideas about the units presented so far and their abilities?

Do you have more info on the abyss?

From Ashan interactive map on the blog:

Renekon: The Dark Elf outpost of Renekon sits on an island in the Great Waterfall that pours into the bottomless Abyss.
Rokos: The deep place where Dark Elves trade with the things that live in the deeper darkness...

The next two quotes, also contain Abyss, but not the one that I had in mind. I cannot find the exact source where I read a bit more of the Abyss, but I know that it was mentioned here and there...

A part of Avonu's post: From HVI it seems that both Faceless and Angels didn't leave in Shantiri Empire. Angels lived in their skycities (which many fell on Ashan during wars with demons and later durin Elder Wars), when Faceless lived under Ashan surface (in "Abyss") in their temples.
War-overlord's post: Nope, the Compendium clearly states that the Shantiri Empire was spread over the Globe. It also states that all of the Elder Races were part of it. Therefor we may infer that the Angelic Sky Cities and the Faceless Abyss were part of the Shantiri Empire. Nowhere was it said that they all lived in the exact same place. Just that they were all part of it.

Maybe Avonu can help you more...

EDIT: I remember that the Abyss was an even deeper area of underground (I guess beneath Ygg-Chall), where some beings live, though nothing was elaborated more about it. Quite a shame, really.

EDIT: Found something else... here (clicky): (Section on cave hydra) There are as many types of Hydras as there are Dragon Gods. Some of them are purely serpentine, others have reptilian legs, and the exact number of heads varies from one species to the next. The Dark Elves have learned to tame the Cave Hydras dwelling in the bottomless Abyss.
