Poll Question: Week of the Storm
A small but not so small thing I’m curious about is what people think of the Week of the Storm week?
Creatures cannot perform range attacks.
Movement cost on Water are increased by 25%.
A week when your shooters cannot shoot.
I’m ok with weeks in general (btw why does week of creatures only gives growth and not stats boost as well?) and I don’t mind the sea penalty at all but I don’t really understand the purpose of forbidding shooters to shoot. If anything I find it irritating.
I could maybe get the flavor if it lasts only for a day, but a full week is seriously too much.
In fact, I think it delays the fun. Ie if it happens week 2 and you’re playing Sylvan, pretty annoying.
Weren’t you thrilled of this fresh Master Hunter stack you were about to use?
Well you can’t, and for the next seven days.
The battles I had this week just made them last longer while being less exciting at the same time, only frustrated to have shooters I cannot use.

I suggest:
a) Remove the “creatures cannot perform attack” script from the week
And eventually replace it with adding a penalty on land movement too, so it matches with the sea penalty.
b) Have the script only effective one day.
One day when shooters can’t shoot should be enough, have it trigger at random during the week.
c) Remove the whole week or at least make it optional.

That's a bit insanely powerful to have it as a week. Usually it is always about subtlety, like growth to a certain unit, reducing cost of upgrades or changing the spell cost.
But that a certain unit cannot fly, use ability or shoot is a bit too much. If anything, it can be left to higher difficulty.

What about instead of removing the effect completely, make it so that ranged units have a % damage reduction or something more interesting like not being able to achieve full range damage, even if enemy units are close to you.

It should be damage reduction or for example full range units turn into half-range. In general I wouldn't mind week as it is, but if I think about pvp coming down to for example academy might player who relies on 3 shooters and suddenly they can't shoot because this week happens...

I agree with TD on this one; I miss an option in the poll for "reduced damage" and/or "reduced range" with a percentage that doens't come anywhere near the 100% it is at now.

I'd like this. Maybe even go as far as stopping all ranged attacks past the full damage line and have those attacks do half.

That could be option a), as it removes the "shooters can't shoot" thing. The suggestion I made for replacement is ofc not set in stone, in fact I find this solution you guys are suggesting to be much better!

I'm fine with forces you to play different, and I know people hate to be pulled out of their comfort zone but hoow else are you going tto learn something new :-)
Make it one day is a nonesence option, as well as making it optional. Dmg reduction would be better but neh, just let the game be evill on you :-P.

Such features should come as fans mods, prohibiting shooting is lame for multiplayer. Here we see difference between "I wake up with one super idea out of my ass" and the plague from Heroes 3, fair, affects both players.

May I suggest a "week of no strong melee walking elite unit with some sort of no retaliation ability" it's a week where you can't use your factions strong elite walking unit who all have some kind of (totally unique) no retaliation ability.
some of them happen all the time, others only happen on a critical strike! Whoa!

This is not about forcing you out of your comfort zone, this is about making several units totally useless. It's just the stupidest thing ever.
At this point, they could also make a week of shy dragons, when dragons refuse to fight. Oh yeah, that's so much fun !
