Manticore in M&M7?
For whatever reason, wasn't this only encountered in the arena? Would've really suited some locale in Nighon!

Because this game is unfinished. There missed a lot of things. Creators forgot manticores like phonixes in MMVIII.

I did meet the phoenixes in the fire elemental realm. They were in some non-quest dungeon in the center I believe.

You can meet (invisible) Manticores in MM7 only during fights on Arena. IIRC this is because they are bugged - R-click on them = crash - that's probably a reason why they were removed from game (and after patches also from Arena).
You can meet Phoenixes in MM8, in War Camp in Plane of Fire (and Arena ofc).

For bugs are patches. This is very small bug. They don't improved it and forgot deleted bugged. It means haste to give unfinished game. I know that 1(sometimes 2) phoenix is in fire plane. It's like zero.

Strange, I thought people started blaming MM8 to be the unfinished one.

I see that MMVIII is the game built from resorces which was prepared to MMVII and which was in MMVII. Behemots, rocs, vywerns, gogs, elementals, basilisks, lizardmens, gorgons, drakoliches and many other.

The manticores get visible by starting the game in software 3d. Also in my old copy of the game manticores appeared in the tome in erathia.

They become visible after you kill them.
Tomb of Ninja Master in Erathia has Liches and Vampires inside, not Manticores.
However if you have BDJ's MM7 mod installed, then you have working (patched) Manticores in this tomb instead of normal monsters.
EDIT:
BTW - you all know Map of Erathia Antagarich from MM7, right? Well, I have got a little different map in my box.

I remember fighting the manticores in the Arena.. wel only the minicoras or how the basic versions were called
And if you edited the game, and put them on any map (like Nighon for instanece, instead of rochs) they were all there, killable and did not break the game for me.
But they had broken color-coding.
