The Demonic Company

I have asked the question several times and didn't found any real answer - why is Ubisoft still operating?

About more than 10 years ago, we all know that 3DO went bankrupt and brought NWC to destruction, as well. I recall the reason was because 3DO released a new console, but it did not sell very well and it brought them to their downfall.

Ubisoft, formed 30 years ago, it makes it a very strong company, which I approve of. I can't exactly tell who, why or when they did start making these nonsensical actions, making it very, very untrustworthy company, when it comes to buy their products. Maybe they read a biased book or it was a change in management, I can't say. Same may as well be said with Electronic Arts, which also has a share of infame.

All I want to say it is quite contradictory that a game publishing company could still operate, even in these past years, where they release heavily-bugged games, with questionable content (in case of Heroes VII, many re-used features, designs etc.) and ruin the customers' approval. And they have to pay the developer company for the work, no? Many of us sensed Heroes VII had a small budget for the development, though it is said it does not have much money because "fans aren't much interested in strategy games" (even if I have my doubts about that).

So my question is this - how come they are still active, even if these actions in the past years makes customers less eager to buy their products - therefore, making them earn less money, to the point where they would start losing money? Wouldn't they even be concerned about such economic threats?

This all sounds like a "Demonic Company" - a company that deviates rules in order to survive, when in normal circumstances, it would fall.

Really good at advertising and building hype. that's it really, ain't much more to it, however it is definitely starting to change: people are wising up to their BS. in response to this, Ubi does appear to start abandoning some of their terrible practices as Far Cry primal had (to my knowledge) no pre-order bonuses for example.

Unfortunately yes it did have pre-order bonuses. They have no shame, and they are not about to change.

That's partially a reason. Even if it was recently discovered Far Cry Primal's map is similar to its predecessor, or so I heard.

But using this game as an example, it would seem Ubi did have a success at this game, meaning they received a profit. But don't they use such money to fund other development of other games, several at the same time?

It makes no sense; from where would they get their money from, anyway? If it is from the successes from the past (when they weren't that much traitorous), wouldn't that alert the higher-ranking officials (like CEO) they are losing their money?

Plus, this advertising bit - people are learning, yes (we got such experience from Heroes VI). Yet this also means no matter how much "eyecandy" one could throw at the customers, they refuse to buy the game, knowing it would suck greatly. I recall there was an article that stated how certain companies are releasing bugged games, to see how much the audience is interested in it, then start making proper development. If so, wouldn't the development of Heroes VII be over, since a scar is upon it? Everyone knows that, upon the game release, it was very bugged; patching that game today makes no sense, when you'd only amuse few customers (if any at all) to buy/play the game.

People buy their games that is it really. They have known franchises that they market well enough to draw in the naive and veterans alike. For instance, despite reused assets, bad design decisions, and H6 people here still preordered H7.

I remember the number of people, who bought Heroes VII, equaled 1/10 of those that played Heroes VI. You also have to pay the developer company and even have a bit of cash for your own job. I know there are also games like Heroes Online and Duel of Champions, but things start staggering when the former game had reached the end of its "lifespan", so to speak.

By using that logic, Heroes VIII, if it would ever appear, or even other games of other franchises Ubisoft owns, would be even a greater disasters than their prequels. Which would also mean Ubisoft's downfall is ticking and coming closer, no?

Not really no. Most of Ubisoft's franchises are still making them plenty of money. Despite their laziness they are not considered greater disasters then their prequels by the buying public.

Assassin's Creed, Tom Clancy, Watch Dogs and Far Cry all sell gangbusters mate, Watch Dogs and the recent Tom Clancy game were two of the fastest selling games of all time in terms of launch profit, as long as these fast food, cookie cutter franchises are still selling they will continue to exist, Might and Magic is basically an indulgence they can afford to publish for ****s and giggles rather than an essential brand propping up the company lol

That does make more sense, I see. What a shame the successes are limited to only those few franchises.

The funny part is that they only decided to stop releasing assassin's creed annually only recently. Now they will release in once in two years!

The truth is that ubi can do a good job when they want to. But often enough they do not care or their internal policies get in the way. I still remember how many preorders were cancelled with that ridiculous DRM or the outrage with the starforce copy protection they were supposed to use for H5.

Yes, basically this. By the way, my first thought when I saw thread title was "Electronic Arts?"
