Weird experience

Hello, readers, and welcome into this thread.  I really can't get any sleep tonight so, to kill some time, I've decided to share with you a story of mine.  I'm not superstitious, I'm quite a skeptic actually, but there are things I've witnessed, yet I cannot explain.

If you've had such things happen to you, too, by all means share them here.

I've recently (last week) come home from school.  As usual, I've been dying to get some well-deserved rest and get away from the hectic surroundings of the urban area.  Now, there's not much to do here, so I'm replaying the Warcraft 3 campaign again.
But let's cut to the important parts.  There's this chest of drawers in my room.  It's been there for quite a few years, long before I claimed the place for myself.  I just ignored it for all this time because it already served a purpose by holding all of the photos, papers and whatnot of my late father.  So, some night ago I was extremely bored, and decided to go through all of that.  Among the photographs, all of the bills and other sundries I've discovered a cassette tape.  It was black, pure black, with nothing on it - no writing, no numeration, no description, nothing.  Boy, I was sooooo curious, so I blew the dust from it and put it in a cassette player (yes there's one in my house and it works), rewinded to the beginning and pushed 'play'.  At first I couldn't hear anything - complete silence, like the ones you find in cheesy horror movies when they do this thing.  Then, humming came from the speakers.  It was faint, barely audible.  I didn't know what to expect from it.  I turned up the volume on the player;  still nothing.  The humming remained the same.  My player doesn't work properly, I thought to myself.  As I prepared to turn the device off, a brief sound startled me.  It sounded so strange, unnatural.  I cannot describe it in any other way, as I've heard nothing quite like it.  My heart started beating faster.  A very unpleasant feeling overwhlemed me in an instant.  Another brief sound, this one very much like a static.  A few moments of silence followed.  By now, I've been thinking I should just turn the thing off and put the cassette back where it was.  Alas, I continued waiting.  The static was back on, but it wasn't brief this time - it lasted for a good minute, or so.  I hated every second of it, but another silence came after it as a blessing.
That's when I heard the voices.  My God, those were voices not of a human for sure.  They were quiet, as if someone had been recording from a large distance, and I couldn't understand a single word.  I couldn't bear much of it - the longer I listened to them, the more I felt this horrible feeling of dread, fear and disgust all blended together.  That's when I had enough of it - I took the cassette out.  I had another good look at it - black, nothing on it.  I wanted to know the story behind it.  I wanted to know what those voices said, whose voices those were!

I placed it back where I found it, then sorted the papers and the photos and closed the drawer.  I swear, a chill goes down my spine as I write this.  The worst of all is that I'm still curious about it.  I wanna dig it up again and play it, listen to it till the end.  I want to know what's on that tape, but I'm not gonna listen to my gut.  Instead I'm gonna listen to my brain as he tells me not to poke my nose into stuff that's not mine.

I am not touching that cursed thing again.  The most I can do for you is post a photo of it, but nothing that's it.

That reminds me of my childhood.

In the attic of my childhood home we kept all our unused stuff, among that there were some legos.

For some reason we always found them grimy, and covered in some murky blue substance.
One day, while playing, I got electrocuted by a skeleton.

Other than that there was some creepy snow in that room, and a bunch of videocassettes, as a child I believed there was a huge spider there, like Shelob, I even got a toy sword to fight it once... and then fled since I was too scared.

Technically we have yet another attic like this, but since there is no light there, and since it's basically a hole in the roof in a side room I never went there, imagine what I could find there...

Well now I see why I had such a strange behaviour in my youth...

I would not worry about the tape and the sounds for a couple of reasons. Here are a couple of things to consider.

First, I did a lot of recording on tapes and there is a good reason why they did not last long. Imagine how many folks today use there CDs and DVDs and do not put them back in the "protective-case". Tapes were often done the same way and if the tape was not in a case for a long period of time the quality of the tape can be impaired. i.e. Touching the tape can cause sound drop-outs.

Next is that static is an AM radio problem when around power-lines. So if it was your Father's recording (and you could record over any previously made tape until the corner-tabs/flaps were broken to prevent the cassettes reuse) of "maybe" a radio interview of someone/persons or about a topic he thought important.

Another thing we had to do was use a special-cassette to de-magnetize the players "play-heads" or sound quality too could also be affected. Add in too much cold or too much heat (where placed) and other effects could happen. Hot attics are not good storage locations.

I would also add that the printing on tapes was far from permanent because heavy-use would "often" erase the text.

However, as I said I do not know the truth behind that cassette. But these are very real possibilities. The people recording and what they are talking about could be no big deal to you but any time you listen to a tape without knowing why the tape was made you...run a risk.

IOW, there could be something there that would not change your life or thinking one iota for the better that "could" cause you some form of misery. i.e. legal-matters

I'm not advocating either position but do not listen to the tape unprepared for all eventualities. Possibly the worst situation could be if it was some flaming/controversy that causes you confusion in some way and your Father cannot explain why it mattered to him, if indeed it was even his.

I would imagine if it mattered to him in a "legacy-way" and he wanted you to know, likely, he would have told you.

Just my take.

Recordings on old tapes can get twisted beyond recognition, the media is just quite imperfect. My uncle used to play such in the car stereo some 15-20 years back quite a lot and I could barely identify some of the songs - voices, music, tempo, everything was terribly distorted, with static here and there. Really no need to freak out over it.
