I would argue anything related to Ubisoft and the Heroes franchise should be in the Wastelands, just nuke h6 and h7 subforums and we're done talking about it.

Ultimately the status is very good. By now there is a very long story to tell how things fared. In brief, what is there now is close to what I imagined originally *and* it is mostly completely implemented.

The first thing is the AI upgrade. You know, something fast like H3 nearly immediate response on turn end, plus an AI that can truly outwit you. Ideally nobody except of the best should be able to beat the AI, without cheats, on impossible difficulty.

The second step is to build something better, a grander game with a Heroes strategy core, but with a world map for 4X gameplay. Conquer one territory at a time and advance your campaign.

That sounds really promising! Is there any ETA or can you go more in depth about what stage the project is at? I'd love to play it as soon as possible and give feedback and whatnot.

unfortunately I will only have nasty and abusive things to say to Yves and understandably I think they will be censored if I post them at a reddit, I would much rather have an AMA with you mate because I am for sure more interested in your project than anything Yves and his minions have ever spawned lol

I don't know about that. It may depend on how many people know about the AMA. And then it is an AMA, so Yves cannot weasel out without losing face.

But you would need to ask your question in a more neutral way, e.g.
"Do you have plans to sell the Might & Magic franchise or produce a MMH8?"

Having set so many ETAs, either for others or myself, and all expired, I better do not issue any new ETA. Life is too complicated and development of AI as well. We will leave ETAs for the time when this project will have a proper budget.

Regarding the state of the AI, it's nearly complete. There are some recursive feedback loops for the coordination of different heroes towards a joint cause (think multi-pronged attacks) to be addressed, but that is mostly all that is left. There will be some additional rework of the mechanics and then we can begin to test it.

Actually, this might prove an invaluable opportunity to put Jon van Caneghem at the center of Yves' attention. I will definitely ask him about the possibility of the original creator of Might & Magic to return at the head of the franchise, given that he showed willingness to do so. Probably the most constructive question to ask rather than bashing Erwan or being a rhetorical smartass about the current state of the franchise.

Personally I would rather opt for Lizzie's variant, a more direct and less neutral tone transmists the message we've been utterly fed up, in fact I find his formulation rather moderate. Ubisoft are so disconnected Yves might even think the IP is not selling good enough because of the genre or something similar, and not because of the constant rape and abuse the series suffered throughout the past decade. Also h6 and h7 are so atrocious we tend to be too clement with the horrible 3D, lore and art direction h5 suffered.

That's understandable. However, I was under the impression that there was a HoMM-like game in the works? So what I gather is that the only thing at the ready is the AI, not a TBS prototype. Is that correct?
Then, what's the final goal, the AI itself or the AI + TBS? And since you mention that you need a budget, are you planning to obtain it from an established producer in the industry like Paradox or EA? Or go for an indie development with private investments and crowdfunding like Kickstarter?

I'm trying to wrap my head around all it is you're doing (or want to do), because I've seen some ambitious projects for community-developed Heroes before which sadly didn't reach any result. So after you said that things toned down, I was getting a bit concerned.

I'm trying to wrap my head around all it is you're doing (or want to do), because I've seen some ambitious projects for community-developed Heroes before which sadly didn't reach any result. So after you said that things toned down, I was getting a bit concerned.

Oh, there is more to it. There has been a lot done for the design of an advanced TBS, its 4X mode, character driven stories, writing, campaign design and such. But all of this is feasible only with the completed AI.

Financing is an issue. Crowdfunding is work and time consuming. I rather would work for another company implementing AI or talk with Paradox or such.
