Drakon-Deus said: I actually like our old anthem better, the one Salamandre is referring to, more than the current one. Nothing to do with the political regime though, I simply like the song.
Old
New
i like both of these.
for some reason, the new one makes me think of the old testament of the bible, and the old one makes me think of the new testament. the vibes seem to directly correlate with the overall god-themes. except for "revelations"(because revelations is more old-testament feel), of course.

I didn't even know they replaced it, of course the new one is leaving me indifferent, not being related to any memories.

I haven't thought about it like that before but I think it makes sense and suits them nicely.

Argentinian anthemn lyrics are fine, but I find this version better:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8TUeFkUwH8
Ironically (?) it was intended as an ironical version of the original argentinian anthemn, but since both speak about liberty and freedom (original from a liberal "french revolution" start of XIX century standpoint, second from an anarchist-socialist end of XIX century standpoint) they sound more complimentary than adversarial.
Original version (Adbridged, the parts about defeating the Spanish got cut out because they were "offesive" to Spain. So much for national pride for your own war of liberation; basically by cutting the national anthemn we apologize to our centuries-long oppressors for being rude to them in a song :V)
Quote: Oíd, mortales, el grito sagrado:
"¡Libertad, libertad, libertad!"
Oíd el ruido de rotas cadenas,
ved en trono a la noble igualdad.
Ya su trono dignísimo abrieron
las Provincias Unidas del Sud
y los libres del mundo responden:
"Al gran pueblo argentino, ¡salud!
Al gran pueblo argentino, ¡salud!"
Y los libres del mundo responden:
"Al gran pueblo argentino, ¡salud!"
Sean eternos los laureles
que supimos conseguir,
que supimos conseguir.
Coronados de gloria vivamos...
¡o juremos con gloria morir!,
¡o juremos con gloria morir!,
¡o juremos con gloria morir!
And the anarchist version:
Quote: Oíd mortales el grito sagrado
de Anarquía y Solidaridad
oíd el ruido de bombas que estallan
en defensa de la Libertad.
El obrero que sufre proclama
la Anarquía del mundo a través
coronada su sien de laureles
y a sus plantas rendido el burgués.
De los nuevos mártires la gloria
sus verdugos osan envidiar
la grandeza anidó en sus pechos
sus palabras hicieron temblar.
estribillo:
Viva, viva la Anarquía!
No más el yugo sufrir
coronados de gloria vivamos
o juremos con gloria morir.
Al lamento del niño que grita:
dame pan, dame pan, dame pan,
le contesta la tierra temblando,
arrojando su lava el volcán.
Guerra a muerte, gritan los obreros
guerra a muerte al infame burgués,
guerra a muerte, repiten los héroes
de Chicago, París y Jerez.
Desde un polo hasta el otro resuena
ese grito que al burgués aterra,
y los niños repiten en coro:
nuestra patria, burgués, es la tierra.
The anarchist version is significantly longer and less redundant because it is based on the unadbridged version.
You can use google translator, it will be accurate enough to understand as the lyrics are simple and straightforward.

The music is quite nice, it contrasts slow and melancholic parts with the warlike and strendous parts.
I don't like musically some other anthems as the US one. Like their flag of strident colors, they don't understand subdued moderation or solemn pride. In any case I think theyr true national anthemn is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhnUgAaea4M
Musically for example the USSR one is nice. The music is better if you don't understand the lyrics even, which although not the worse, they are not up to par with the epicness of the sonority.

Ours sounds both epic and sad, it reminds me of the end of some grand battle. The text (deliberately omitted) is hard to translate and still convey the same feeling but it's mostly about the natural beauty of the country - nothing special on its own but combined with the melody it can be really inspiring.

Yes, not a bad tune, it's kind of like a soundtrack. Maybe, that's why you think of a grand battle.

It sux. Every year they play it slower and slower, it's basically jingoistic crap and you have to be an opera singer to sing it properly.

Jingoistic, yes, that's the word that could describe most of the anthems out there. It is kind of to be expected of course, but still...

Brazilian anthem is quite optimistic, fast-paced, punctuated by unused words 90% the population know not the meaning and something like 50% know not how to sing it entirely, poetry-feeling, with as many truths as it has lies and wishes of what has been and what will never be, similar to our national flag writting. Given most of the population will never care for interpretation of the the anthem, I would not mind if they simply 'updated' it to a less formal tone or cut the crap in most of it, to make it a little more direct and possible for the population to at least learn the lyrics properly, because the way it's written, it's like it's a colonial-time Yoda's composition.
You can listen to it HERE. It has subtitles in English, however, not very accurate every now and then given the interpretation problem. The very beginning is already wrong, but I'll not elaborate errors because ... who the f* cares?
Lyrics
I
Ouviram do Ipiranga as margens plácidas
De um povo heroico o brado retumbante
E o sol da liberdade, em raios fúlgidos
Brilhou no céu da pátria nesse instante
Se o penhor dessa igualdade
Conseguimos conquistar com braço forte
Em teu seio, ó liberdade
Desafia o nosso peito a própria morte!
Ó pátria amada
Idolatrada
Salve! Salve!
Brasil, um sonho intenso, um raio vívido
De amor e de esperança à terra desce
Se em teu formoso céu, risonho e límpido
A imagem do cruzeiro resplandece
Gigante pela própria natureza
És belo, és forte, impávido colosso
E o teu futuro espelha essa grandeza
Terra adorada
Entre outras mil
És tu, Brasil
Ó pátria amada!
Dos filhos deste solo és mãe gentil
Pátria amada
Brasil!
II
Deitado eternamente em berço esplêndido
Ao som do mar e à luz do céu profundo
Fulguras, ó Brasil, florão da América
Iluminado ao sol do novo mundo!
Do que a terra mais garrida
Teus risonhos lindos campos têm mais flores
Nossos bosques têm mais vida
Nossa vida no teu seio mais amores
Ó pátria amada
Idolatrada
Salve! Salve!
Brasil, de amor eterno seja símbolo
O lábaro que ostentas estrelado
E diga o verde-louro dessa flâmula
Paz no futuro e glória no passado
Mas se ergues da justiça a clava forte
Verás que um filho teu não foge à luta
Nem teme, quem te adora, a própria morte
Terra adorada
Entre outras mil
És tu, Brasil
Ó pátria amada!
Dos filhos deste solo és mãe gentil
Pátria amada
Brasil!
