I'll go back to writing my study on Lithuanian built SMGs of the late 80s and early 90s. Yes, those were a thing, and no you cannot buy them anymore, because the manufacture was shut off before any export versions could even be produced.

I reroll my 7 Gnomes. My highest stat is 12. This is literally... How even? How can they be so bad? This is a statistical anomaly.
I guess I'll just be an incompetent paladin lol.

As you chose to be a humany human Mchumanface, you don't have a past life to draw upon. Being level 3, you are likely just graduated from your master's tutelage and not an incredible, famous wizard everyone knows, etc, etc.
So yeah, mostly just common sense stuff. I would look at some of the backgrounds for 5th edition (specifically, take a look at the Player's Handbook Backgrounds), because those are actually important mechanically and give you an occupation/ lifestyle you were living before becoming an adventurer, and it gives you building blocks for a basic personality, motivation and flaws.

Unfortunately, Dungeons and Dragons is a dice game. Which means you have to roll dice for it. Which is something that HC cannot do. It also makes it much easier to track HP, much easier to visualize, and keeps everyone's character sheets in the same place for easy reference. So yes. In order to actually play in this game, you have to be willing to actually use the resources necessary to play the game.
And hey, you do you. As long as you are keeping yourself entertained.

Use Point Buy instead for this character. Because I don't trust your rolls. Because OH GOD THAT WAS HORRIBLE IN EVERY WAY. No arguing, you get my mercy. Use point buy, and watch your stats SKYROCKET up to the glorious, lofty heights of MORE THEN 12!

It's actually not entertainment, but work related, The study will be published in a yearly Almanac of Vytautas Magnus Museum of Warfare History.
And the subject is pretty fascinating, even Gun Jesus (Ian McCollum of Forgotten Weapons) has expressed interest in reading about it.
As for the dice rolling, you know they make 84152864948652941+ different dice apps out there both for iDiot and Android devices? but w/e.

Damn dice demons 
So I'm eyeing an arcane trickster, what can I safely wear without messing up the few spells I can cast? As for supplies I was thinking a +1 crossbow, bolts, some fleece and copper wire for components, healing potions if money allows. As a guild artisan(wood carver) I probably get a carving knife and related tools.

Armour doesn't hamper your ability to cast spells in this edition (unless Gnomes changed that). As long as you are proficient with the armour you can wear it without fear!
So for a basic rogue, you can wear all light armours.

If you are proficient with the armor, you don't suffer any mallus when you are casting spells. As you are a rogue, this means you can cast your spells in Light armor.
For equipment, I assume you mean a light crossbow (which deals 1d8 damage and has 80/240 short/ long range, which rogues have proficiency with) since a generic "crossbow" doesn't exist in 5e. Which totally works! Also remember that you get all of the starting equipment provided by your class and background, so you should have a bit more to play around with (including 20 crossbow bolts and basic leather armor, though studded leather isn't an expensive upgrade, to be fair).
There is also a components pouch that is assumed to hold all of the components you would need that don't have a gold cost associated with them. Check the Player's Handbook, but I believe it's either 20 or 25 gold.

+1 weapons are 1,000 gold and you guys start out with 1,100 gold + your starting equipment? Everything else listed is pretty much just starter equipment in Elvin's list outside of the crossbow.

If there's leftover gold I might as well upgrade to studded leather armour and add some potions. Maybe a light club, I'd hate to stain my artisan knife ^^

Rogues get a few daggers and a finesse melee weapon that they can stab people with and still proc sneak-attack as part of the starting class equipment package.

I meant the material pouch. Some copper wire and fleece is worth like 5 cp and you wanna sell him a 20gp material pouch!

I am forever grateful. 
Generally I don't grovel about bad rolls, but really you need at least one high stat you know.

The idea behind the component pouch is that you pay 20gp to never have to keep track of any material ever again, except those which actually have a gold value cost or which are expended upon use.
Personally I much prefer the Bardic/Druidic/Arcane Focus or Holy Symbol for my material component needs.

Except that according to the rulebook, a Rogue can't use any kind of focus instead of the component pouch.

That is true. I think rogues, fighters, and Rangers (?) can't use focuses/holy symbols.
