Well I'm an ex Diablo player and just loved it.  I will go back to it again but just having a break at the moment.  I think its good to have variety when playing computer games or anything really.  I still hang in a diablo forum at nightshivers site.  I actually have my own tavern called RainBows Tavern which I am moderator of (wicked fun lol)......I played a lot of Diablo online on open battle net.  I had one kick butt zon called RainBow (of course).  Hey I even love racing around the track on the nintendo 64 playing Mario Kart......one must have variety when it comes to playing

I've never played Diablo

(Not enough time)

But I have spend huuugggeee amounts of time playing various RPG games when I should have been out there having a life...

Amongst them Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate and of course the famous MM series.  I didn't know there were rules to gameplay... if I'd have known that, I'd probably still be stuck on the platform games I played as a kid (I am gonna challenge Lith to 2player sonic 2 on my GG when I go to greece though.. hehehe)

I'm a huge fan of both games Dismay because they satisfy different needs of mine.

When I'm feeling social I tend to play HOMM III more.  I love the online experience that it offers.  It fulfills my competitve desire to go one on one against an opponent.  I can drink a soda, scratch my butt, pop in a dip, whatever I want during my opponent's turns.  I find it to be more relaxing than Diablo.

I play Diablo more when I'm feeling reclusive.  I've never done battle.net and I don't think I ever will.  I know that the game is optimized by having more players but that still doesn't change my mind.  It is a much less social game than HOMM.  But it offers the adrenalin rush that HOMM doesn't, with the exception of the one big clash of armies towards the end.  I can go on automatic in Diablo and not really have to concern myself with time limits and go too indepth about my strategy.

You may argue that Diablo is a more social game because of the cooperation that is required.  I beg to differ with that train of thought.  I'd be perfectly fine going off on my own and slaying bad guys.  The only difference is that I'd need more healing potions.

Besides, I'm a d*** when it comes to playing cooperatively.  My friends hated me when we played Diablo because they'd usually play fighters to my Wizard.  Well, when a unique went down because of them they'd still be in a pitched battle and unable to get the drop.  I would then snatch it up and maybe, if I didn't need it, I'd give it back to them.  If they got lippy I'd annihilate them with my 450 point fireballs.  Great fun for me, but some of my buddies attacked me in real life because of these tactics.

Cat, after Baldur's Gate came out, I pulled away almost completely from pen & paper RPGs.  That entire series deserves nothing but the highest accolades(with 2 exceptions) for its superior story, design, and all around enjoyment.  By the way, those 2 exceptions are IceWind Dale's Heart of Winter and the level cap for Baldur's Gate I.

Diablo, Heroes and the future of us all...

like most of you, I play various game genres...
when I feel like honing my reflexes, I play Return to Castle Wolfenstein, kill a few zombies or better yet, be an engineer in an attacking team online...
when I feel like testing my mind, I go for a Myst-like game (last one was Atlantis 3) or something like chess (even if technically, chess is a TBS, I think of it as a way of thinking more than a game)
when i feel ready for a bloodbath with a touch of Fantasy, I go for dungeoncrawl/RPG games like Diablo (btw: Druid rules)
when I just want to spend a couple of hours with friends, I either go for coffee of for a MP Red Alert 2...
when I feel like visiting another world, I go for RPG games like Septerra Core or final fantasy...
last but not least, if i want to hone my tactics skill i play TBS games like our all time fave, HoMM... be it single player against (a lousy) AI, or multiplayer against people far better than me, it is always fun...

however, the recent blow from 3DO (ie: the immature release of HoMM and the fact they fired half NWC) left me kinda hanging... I don't know if I can trust 3Doh to give us a patch, let alone MP support for HoMM4 ...I have played more games than most people here but HoMM was always one of my favorite ones... I would start to think that the future of gaming is uncertain but then I found out about a new RPG called Neverwinter Nights... it may not be a TBS and will probably never soften the blow (and it will be a blow if 3Doh keeps acting like that) but it will sure help me spend many hours...

So?

It's still possible to espect any good post in the tavern afterall! Finally a thread without soccer and country snow in it!

I think most people play both games because they both contain alot of fantasy..

Altought Blizzard is much better then 3DO.. .Who thinks otherwise is really stupid..

Everygame blizzard makes scores good! And they won't quit with no reasons like NWC.

Blizzard Rules!

most of all of making
Warcraft series
Diablo Series and Starcraft series!

The Baldur's Gate is amazing, although I have no time for people who import Icewind Dale high level characters into the games from the start (as one guy I know in RL does).

This is one of the principal games on which I base all my FoW arguements on... it suits Baldur's Gate to a T, but it is a different class of game.  I fell in love with BG as soon as I bough the first one- the graphics, the way battles were fought in real time and had to be carefully planed, the time limits on quests and the way the characters are so personal (Minature giant space hamster?? lol).  Also, it requires skill, intellegent decisions and an element of luck... the perfect game(s), almost.

I have played both Diablo II and Heroes.

As for Diablo II, I can say it is a pretty good, if very challenging and tactical, game. I have completed the original version and am now on the verge of completing the expansion pak, too!

Which game I like better between the two, I do not know.

GoodnewS

With warcraft3 it's possible to make your own creatures! And it's even possible to make a whole game Like diablo with the editor! War3's editor makes it possible to make your own races/creeps/levels/tileset/stats/give every unit/creep their own spells!/readd the cutted units!/Give units different stats, colors, sizes, appearance!

It's possible to create your own Diablo game out of warcraft editor! That's awsome!

Diablo/Heroes

I played Diablo II and now I'm playing the expansion...
And I played Heroes3 and now 4 (have 3 only for linux...).

I think DiabloII will get boring after a while...
Quests are always the same, no extra maps, playing multiplayer is not so different as playing by yourself (okay, you can get useful things from other people, but the game itself is always the same).

I think Heroes is better, there are maps, and you never know how your opponent(s) play in multiplayer...

Anyway, I keep both on my pc, and if I'm angry and want to strike someone, I put the LoD Cd in the drive

dungeon siege

To those of you who are diablo fans that haven't tried DungeonSiege i would recommend it When Heroes4 came out as much as i've tried, i couldnt get myself into it (stilll hoping multi patch will fix that!!) So JB239 went hunting for a new game to pass the time until H4 gets fixed and Dungeon Siege it was, the graphics are great, gameplay is just like diablo and it's very addictive!
