I played both and had my fun with them. They really aren't on the same level as hota though. That's why I am so excited about DOR. Its their first real competitor in terms of quality. Till the release I will probably just continue experimenting with the Factory.

I hope that the campaigns would also cover Kilgor's Offensive as well, which would lead to the events of Heroes 4.

Well I guess that the Reckoning itself will be the end of the campain and so I guess that the clash of Gelu and Kilgor will be part of it.
I was wondering if there will be a reference to the Chronicles campain, where Vori is represented by Rampart. Will there be some connections with maps or characters or dialogues?

I know I'm writing something off-topic for DoR on this thread, but now imagine one in the HoMM3 community would make a similar series of fan expansions that covers either the Timber Wars & The War of the Dove and Crow or The Fall of Phynaxia & the Contested Lands Rebellion for either fan expansion's campaigns. Basically two fan prequels of sorts to The Shadow of Death campaigns.

Yes for sure, next big fan 'expansion' I hope would be the war of the dove and crow. It could really be just one new faction and one new campaign.

Wouldn't even necessarily need any new faction. Representing the Church of the Moon with Necropolis and the Church of the Sun with Castle wouldn't be the strangest substitutions even just looking at NWC's non-Heroes Chronicles H3 campaigns.

Welp, all you really need there are sun and moon cleric units. I agree the moon clerics should have an affinity towards Necropolis, but then again, Necropolis is undead-only, and it wouldn't be a good idea to break the pattern like this.

Will Forge town have asphalt or dirt native terrain? I think asphalt is cooler and more iconic with it's dark grey/black colours and green acid rivers.

"Asphalt" is not a terrain type. And Dirt wasn't even one of NWC's candidates for the Forge terrain, anyway.
A more thorough update on Forge's terrain (which has been shown a few times, albeit in a relatively WIP state) will be made at a later date, when it will be closer to completion.

MDT and Andruids Forges use asphalt terrain

Last I could tell, the MDT Forge used Dirt as its native terrain, not Asphalt (at least while MDT still had interest in it). And, well, this Asphalt terrain is neither DoR's work, nor does it uphold the quality standard we desire. Still, that does not mean that DoR has not thought well about the matter, and I can confidently say that the result will be very satisfying.

I have asphalt and MDT forge instaled on VCMI and yes it uses apshalt terrain on randomly created maps.
I am glad you are working on something unique. Dirt would be boring. Thanks for answering

You're welcome!
Whereas NWC was thinking of either Rough or Lava. =p
But that's also because of their funds and time to make the addon.

Interesting I did not know that.Well personaly I love asphalt because black terrain with green toxic rivers and lakes look unique and is great color combo. It also fits Forge perfectly.
As for NWC wouldent it be better if they used dirt because if I remember correcly Forge was based in Deyja?

Then by that definition, DoR's Forge should also use Dirt. No, Deyja's terrains are a bit more varied than just "Dirt", as there is also a decent degree of Rough terrain (shown in campaign maps IIRC). And then, the Forge is a corrupting faction, and that's what Lava as its terrain would have relied on (and on which DoR's own terrain also does).

It could have been based on dirt yes, but asphalt is far more interesting.
Lava dosent fit Forge at all in my opinion.
I know Deyja has more terrains but a faction can have only one native terrain and Deyja is predominatly dirt.
I agree Forge should represent the corrupting aspect of technology aka industrial revolution or Isengard in LotR. And thats why dirty green water, dead black earth and toxic fumes fit perfectly. I think whoever made asphalt terrain did a great job.
