Other. I usually try to get earth and water.

It really depends on the faction. I like to play fortress and tower the most. For both of them water is a good choice.


In the campaign I got all 4 schools. You never know what you will encounter in the next map.

I agree Water is very good for Fortress, but also for Tower?
I usually go with Earth and Air for Tower, but I suppose cloning Titans could be pretty awesome?

Banning DD/Fly, Air mainly offers mass haste. Mass haste is not very effective if you don't move first. Tower has 3 shooters and will never move first. Nagas will find it hard to reach the other side even with haste, so better keep them close to your ranged units. The most important spells will be slow, shield, bless, cure and prayer.

Sure, if you ban DD and Fly Air Magic becomes a lot less attractive. Then it is actually only Haste that really benefits from Air Magic. (And Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning, but you don't really need Air Magic for them.)

Yes only Haste also Prayer in the WoG/ERA. When many over 7lvl creatures are changed immune to some magic, those are Slow, etc

So Earth and Water or Air, later on useless Earth. Don't misunderstand me, I talk about WoG/ERA. Yes RoE too. Because RoE is easiest game and many imbalance, thus DD and Fly. I call loophole and unreliable.

So OP Air and Water to Castle, Tower, when the spirit of the game..

Ok Earth and Fire to Dungeon and Inferno. Then adds on Air or Water possibly.

I'm free without addicted to Earth. So 8 Mighty Kings (WoG/ERA) is done, and now in maps4heroes.. Crybabies or awesome something.. An easy map.. But I gave impossible.. At least sense! In there only Necropolis has Slow.. But AI played poorly..

For might heroes, I think going for Earth and Air is usually enough. The 3rd magic school kinda depends on the map; in solo play water magic in water maps gives you more movement options, and if the game lasts long, it's possible to do certain fights with Archangels + Clone combo. Fire magic I would suggest in competitive games, if right tools are given. For magic heroes, I think it's more natural to build the 3rd magic school, as they don't usually have as solid set of secondary skills like might heroes do.

Since I generally play without Fly and DD, Air is way less useful. So, I go for Earth and Water but lately have been picking Fire too.

I pick fire on maps that require the use of berserk. On "normal" maps I avoid it, it's cheesy.

It depends on game style. Best solution is have differrent gamplays do in each game other school. H4 magic system is very good solution.

H5? Still Dark Magic..

Yes I like H4 system, because almost skill distributor never asked Order, if I take, and it needs Master Order to get a Mass Slow..

I've one map, I never or once beat the enemy, my map.. Mass Slow is complete useless, at least Hypnotize, etc Because neutral opponent is Crusader and Paladin.. 2 heroes, thousands Angels, Catapults, Monks, Crusaders and Griffins, heroes asked "Are you Hexis?".. The best is neutral never casted Hypnotize again and again.. If I made Order, so less effect and motive.. Nature! Chaos! Death! So you can't dispel summoned Devils..

But with all 4 schools, You will also need wisdom and you definitely want logistics. There are only 2 secondary skills left. You will have to skip something important. Most might classes can't learn 4 schools, not even from a magic university. Knights and Alchemists have 1 poor skill, you can't really pick them with so many limitations. You will be left with a magic hero or a demoniac.

But with those skills a magic hero is quite workable. You just need to start with no useless skills and have a chance for Armorer, Tactics or Archery (depending of army composition).
If you have spells for it, even Intelligence and Mysticism will do the trick.

5 + 3 = unknown theory, but I agree with Elementalist. I'm always using 2 Magic School in general, 2 or 3 Magic School for Elementalists. 10 or more skills are cheating in the WoG/ERA. If HotA does new skills, it can agree with 10. I wrote a thread "My opinion and wish about the Heroes 8" was busy too, I really think 6 skills. Later on I edit a thread, when year after can't edit.

My post wasn't 100% serious it's obvious that 4 schools is not optimal hero build (unless you get other three and only get offered Earth last)

But, let's be real, most H3 secondary skills suck hard. So like 7 times out of 10, you are better off picking fourth school over something like eagle eye, ballistics, mysticism, first aid, artillery, scouting, sorcery, navigation, learning... and surely others.

4 schools hero is not perfect hero but still much better than most alternatives.
