Out of all those, I keep returning to H3 and H5 from time to time.
The bad thing with H5 is the terrible AI (both playstyle and downtime between turns). Also the map editor is very user unfriendly. Otherwise it would have been a perfect game for me.

I agree map editor is very user unfriendly, you can't specify starting heroes, it's random, and the heroes don't show up on map, I once gave my self a starting dwelling, but somehow town hall was banned.

here's my opinion of all HoMM games:
H1: great game, only negative comment is illustrations are too cartoonish for my tastes.
H2: a good follow-up for H1 adding upgrades and new factions, great overall, even illustrations are better.
H3: awesome game, especially with expansions, endless fun and oppurtunities.
H4: horrible AI bug, otherwise would make a perfect game.
H5: good game, but map editor is very buggy.
H6: game is fine but too simplified, art is great though.
H7: tried to add best features of all previous games, however released in a buggy, premature state.

Heroes 3 on Windows 11 Home Edition
It would seem that the game works fine as long as your monitor is reset to an old resolution of 1280 by 1024.
On a side note: Ubisoft has re-acknowledged the whole series of Might & Magic Heroes and, re-patched Heroes 3, 5, 6 and, 7 to Windows 10 & 11(10.1).
Plus, Uplay works only for the Xbox console(360 & One S/X). It is literally now, Ubisoft Connect as the PC game client.

Your HD Mod works only on the R.O.E. vanilla Edition. And, does not in widescreen resolution.
The complete edition at version 4.0 thru Ubisoft Connect game client has been fully re-adapted to the much newer Windows O.S.
No longer needs any mods to work like it always was meant to be.

Was the same for me. I never got really into it and deleted H5 after playing for two hours or so. It just didn't feel like HoMM.

Tried that fan made mod. until version 3.x and, was always told that the main modder of it all did not care for a widescreen monitor`s high resolution interface.
Ubisoft`s tinkerers fixed the whole monitor`s resolution thingie with a few Mb of coding patching update to be downloaded and, online agreement to be accepted before the patching can be installed/applied onto the game.
Modding the game is no longer any interest of mine. So, do not expect me to post anything in the Heroes 3.5 Modding Thread.

Sure, you are welcome to play it at 800x600 definition, with tons of clicking for every action, no artifact bag and all original bugs active, but on one meter monitor.

Imagine starting every combat with a 5-second sound-clip. Takes me back to the 90's.
@LJP14, the steam version is just an old RoE build, it does not have the original official expansions with balance changes and myriad of additions, it is literally just a lazy cash-grab by ubisoft with rushed bad-quality graphics. (After writing this I realize you might be just trolling, so I applaud you for baiting me  )

I'm using 800x600.. Because I bought laptop in 2008 year.. First time I send a HD bug to Baratorch.. Bug came 3DO map.. I love H3,5 and H4.. esp. HUMAN AI MOD and Difficulty Mod.. So I recommend you play H3,5..

My original resolution is:
1280 x 1024 not 800 x 600.
2022 HP Victis Laptop.
Gaming is fast and challenging as usual.
Heroes 3, do not care about Heroes 4, Heroes 5: T.o.E., Heroes 6: 2nd expansion and. Heroes 7: Trial by Fire all work perfectly.
Your problems are, now, ancient history.
