Where does HOMM2 Windows store its config?

I'm trying to get HOMM2 Windows to work on my Windows 10 install and it does except for 2 things: no sound effects (not sure how to fix that) and the resolution seems to be too small: it just plays as a small window in the top-left of the screen.  Where does HOMM2 store its config info where I could change the configuration for the resolution?

Nowhere, this games operates only at one, native resolution 640x480.

Humm, ok, so then my question is why isn't it going to fullscreen?  When I ran it in Windows 7 I'm pretty sure it was fullscreen.

THe GOG version is running without problems and it's 2.49 atm. I feel at that price, it's not worth the trouble to get the CD version to work, so I just bought it there.

There are few possibilities.

1. You played DOS-BOX version, which launched with fullscreen.
2. You used wrapper which allow to press F4 and do to fullscreen.
3. You've played fhereos2, which is rewritten game engine with possibility to change resolution and many more.

Nope, it was none of them.  HOMM2 Windows version just ran in fullscreen in Windows 7, somehow.

Ahh, you know what?  I think I checked "Run in 640x480 screen resolution" in Compatibility.  Of course that now works properly.  So now it's just the sound effects not working.  Anyone know how that might be fixed?

OK, apparently running in Windows 95 compatibility mode broke the sound effects.  Disabled that and they work - there's just one more problem though.  It doesn't capture the mouse cursor in Windows 10 like it did in Windows 7, allowing the mouse cursor to go over to my other monitor!  This is very annoying, anyone know how to fix it?

I highly recommend fheroes 2: https://github.com/ihhub/fheroes2/releases

It will make the game run way better. Only "downsides" are slight discrepancies with the base game. Like you can buy unupgraded units after buying the upgraded buildings and you can press space to interact with spaces.

Yeah I looked at fheroes2, as you said there are some discrepancies with the base game I don't like.  I really don't like the "instant resolve battle" mechanic either, you should have to fight all battles fully.  Not sure how they re-implemented the AI either, if the thing is a rewrite from scratch.

You don't have to use the instant resolve option at all.

That said the AI is different. In general it is much smarter, though I've found it can be more exploitable in a few fringe cases than the original in combat. On the overworld it is a beast, but if you play on normal they tone it back to more what it was like in the original.
