Gotta love when you say the 1.7 creatures "challenge" the previous masters.
Armadillo is probably the worst tier 3 creature, althrought I must I like the bigger body they provide. It's facinating they're meat in terms of Factory lore and gameplay mechanics.
Royal Griffins and Dragon Flies can pose a real threat even in small numbers. Grand Elves are ultimate units against non-shooters with their double delivery (they are feared much more than Marksmen and not for nothing), but weak if not protected well. Armadillos are bound to protect Halflings. It's another hidden synergy. Also their lack of uniqueness somehow compensates the power of synergy between the 2nd and 4th levels.
