There is no reason to pick Pathfinding, when native terrain, Fly, Wayfarer's Boots, Angel Wings etc. exists, at least not for your main hero.

Well, there are a spell and an artifact on that list you'll never find on my maps. That basically solves your dilemma.
If you don't know, you can ban both in ether a map or a template.
P.S. And uncontrolled Fly and DD are map killers that are banned from almost all good maps.

Angel Wings I never allow either.
Fly is fine and DD is fine, if it's only once per day imo.
Besides who wants to waste a precious skill slot on Pathfinding, when you can have max 8 skills.
Even with 10 skills I would never pick it, unless I was offered Eagle Eye, Ballistics or something as the other skill.

I've picked Corkes as my main in HotA since the very first day and never felt I missed the slot, until I tried him in custom maps with a lot of water and not that many lighthouses.
P.S. I mean, with me controlling the skills he gets. I had to replace him as main a couple of times when not cheating, it was in fact the main reason why I started buffing player 1. The others I was buffing already with a very poor copy of Salamandre's BAI.

You only pick Corkes because of OP Offense specialty.
Clancy also starts with Pathfinding, but he is not really your favorite hero, is he? 
5% is simply too much for Offense, Armorer and the old Logistics and Intelligence specialists.
Skill specialists should get somewhere between 3-4% per level, makes them much more reasonable.

As a matter of fact he is, only the specialty sucks. I've used his pick in more then one map and I'm using it in a map right now (only despise keeping the same ID he has The Specialty).
