All units are listed as levels 1-7.
I made pikemen level 8 in the unit data in .exe and the game still worked.
Besides creature specialists, and spell specialists, is there any effect at all?
On a game design consideration, unlike in King's Bounty where unit level directly effected the damage calculation in a major way, the lack of importance in H(1-3) besides attenuating specialist damage spells, the scaling for unit specialists is cosmetic.

However, 'levels' are indirectly insinuated by skill:att/def - in the ignoring of such by damage spells. (ie. it's much more effective to zap a att/def=20/20 unit than it is a 0/0 one.

I guess it will affect random monster 1-7 on the map, if you put pikemen at level 8 perhaps they will not be generated at all?
Also it should affect creature specialty bonus gaining bonus every 1-7 levels and spell specialties like you said.

Btw. where do you change a units level?, I don't see it in crtraits.txt.

It's in btb's guide.. "5. Units" ... "data" .. 5th bit (0-6)

I guess it could make sense to remove useless units like peasants for example.

Why would you want to remove peasants - I love peasants. The lower the skills you give them, the bigger they buff up.

I just wanted to scale the spell specialties better, then realized unit level is completely irrevelant to anything else.
But I'd mimick the effect of levels via att/def differences.
However att is regressive while def is progressive.

Peasants are just useless.
They are not qualified to be a level 1 unit, if I'm being generous they might be level MINUS 1.

I have sprites at 1hp, imps at 2hp and peasants at 3hp.
I made them the base troop of castle, an idea i stole from ERA, and most importantly they upgrade to MILITIA - just because I cannot forget how utterly cool they were in King's Bounty.

Also sprites are cool but it's unnecessary to give them no retaliation or other abilities as their insane dmg (at 0-1) to hp ratio, if you make them very very cheap, makes for great situational gameplay.

Imps at 0-1dmg also, but upgraded ones to 1dmg, with the lack of bless spell for inferno and restricted water magic skill, means if you can somehow get expert water magic+bless (forbid Adela..) expect fireworks.
But the unit pricing is all wrong unmodded, lots to change there.

Yes its only for some map grneration function. Maybe some spells or skills... Its not important thing. First is unit number and stats.

Pikeman=lvl8 ->still get a horde of pikeman guarding a low level treasure.
Does not effect Pandora box w/creature. (Template editor)
Map generator uses only AI value it seems.
