Stronghold

Given Stronghold is not going to be among the sixth starting factions, I figured that we coule have a dedicated thread in which we could post our wishes for the barbarians.

What would you like to see? A combination of krewlod barbarians from homm3 and mongol-esque tribes from homm5?

It wouldn't make sense if they became mongoloid orcs. Barbarians and behemoths for this setting. Orcish mongols are Ashan version.

I've always thought an arctic style Stronghold would be cool. It could be modeled off of a combination of Nordic and Siberian and Inuit cultures and have creatures like Yeti in addition to the classic creatures. It seems like that's unlikely for this game though since we seem to have the "Others" cosmic horror looking ice faction.

Stronghold has pretty consistently been my least favorite faction in every game. It's not one I'm super invested in and even though it would be a little bit surreal I wouldn't be too upset if it weren't included at all, I'm more interested in seeing the return of Tower, Conflux, and one or both variations of Fortress. If Stronghold were to return, I would like to see it take on a more nuanced flavor than just "orc smash." I'm not sure what that would look like exactly though.

Agreed. Since Orcs are creatures from anglo-saxon mythology, I've always wondered why there's no more of norse looking orcs, goblins and so on. With that said, checkout day of reckoning mod, namely the palace faction. They are a snow elf/norse barbarians themed faction and they have yeti's in their roster. No orcs though.

Honestly, I'd like for it to be more of a troll town than an orc town. This is supposedly set on Jadame, it could do with leaning more (at all) into that.
Depending on when it's set, that could also extend to associating the barbarian town to other terrains than varieties of desert; subtropical islands if it's pre-Regnan pirates, wooded grasslands if it's early in Jadame's colonisation.

A troll town would be cool. It was really more of an ogre and goblin town in H3 after all.

Trolls would be cool aye. Especially if they leaned into lotr type of trolls- visual design wise. Though I wouldn't mind warcraft trolls either.

I would also prefer if they removed harpies from the roster. I just don't see them fit in, at least not from the H3 perspective.

This is what I'd like for the roster to look like :

T1: Goblins
T2: Centaurs
T3: Orc chieftains
T4: Troll warrior
T5: Giant/Cyclop
T6: Orc berserkers
t7: Ancient Behemoths

As much as I love the incarnation of Stronghold in Heroes 5 with their great take on the faction, returning to basics could be refreshing. Next to H5/H6 there is little to innovate with the "Orc" theme.
I would even go so far and take extra distance, including at most one out of: Goblins, Orcs and Ogres.

To me, Stronghold was mostly a mountain theme. A stronghold, set into the stone of a rough competitive landscape where a brutal fauna is fighting over the few resources that exist. Naturally breeding resilient monsters and people alike.

Creatures: Behemoth, Thunderbirds, Harpies, Nomads, Berserkers, Mountain Gnoll. Potentially a rider on a wasteland-hardend reptile mount.

Gameplay: Resolves around "bullying" and praying on the weakest creatures in the enemy. You can push push around enemies, move tanks out of the way and break through formations to reach squishy casters and ranged units.
