Cool Mix!!
For all u peeps who hate hex memorizing maps.;but like "the hero",,and Random I have a funky lil variation of the game..
Play Lg no under or Xl no under (if u have lotta time),,u an opp can only have either 1 (only) hero or 1 hero and 1 scout an thats it!!..if u get other towns,,,tavern is cool...but u cant buy and no prisons..
But takes a lotta trust from opp=P
So know ur opp,,and enjoy,,is much fun,,
try it ,,,hehe...

PLaying some hero randoms before I found the easiest way to do this is to make the rule that you can have/buy as many heroes as you'd care too..
However.. Each day you must end with only 1 hero showing in tavern.. so you can keep a gold or resource hero garrisoned.. buy a hero to chain some troops to yours.. or to collect some loose treasures.. but they gots to be gone by end of day..

Heya Des,
Great idea!!
Then u dont have to wonder if opp will buy heroes, take troops then dismiss, cause both can do it. Therefore no saving required
Also, not many restarts playing this way. Never meet early in game unless portal map.
Just wondering what Castle most prefer to use in Hero game?
I prefer Necro, although crappy movement week 1, necromancy makes up for it.
TDWTDW and I have had some awesome games on Xl no under, one has Isra, the other Vido.

Quote: Excuse me, prolly this is a silly question but what does hex memorization mean ?
Hex Memorization means:
a map such as DW or HG3 that players know EVERY single thing down to the last wood pile on the map and when u play them they make the EXACT same moves first wk or 2,,and whoever wins is usually decided by the luck of the artifacts or Utopias...
When u play a map that much there are no surprises,,,same freaking thing ALL the time,,,thats why Randoms are the way to go.
Although a pain in the ass for restarts,,
Random maps are a challenge...
Any monkey can study a map and play it over an over an over again,,,or play whilst studying map editor..(yawn)
Life is like a box of chocolates,,,u never know what ur gonna get...

I like how the random map players decided to stereotype all players who dislike randoms as "hex memorization players" when in fact only very few memorize a few maps down to knowin each move each turn.
And in reality Random maps are hardly as random as people would like to believe. If I play someone on the template "Dwarven Tunnels" and Ive never done that template before and they have many times, thats similar to someone playing a man made map that has seen it before (not memorized it) vs someone who doesnt. Sure random maps have a little more random features, but even in man made maps if you get a certain creature in a certain spot sometimes you cant beat it so you must re consider what to do.
I played both random and man made maps though, and the main reason I dont prefer random is because it forces you to restart often. If I got 4 hours exact to play, I dont want to spend 30 min to 60 min trying to find a playable map, I want to get right down to it and start playing.

Yeah Right...
I didn't say everyone memorizes maps, but most from the top 50 from last season that don't know most ToH maps down to the last hex?
They are few and far between,,,only TheVinz and a few others that I know of played Random maps regularly for ToH.
I stopped playing pre-made maps after my first month in ToH.
They got boring as hell, and that was before i knew i could see my opps castles.
So anyone who has been in ToH for a few seasons and says they didn't memorize maps is full of crap. I had the popular maps memorized in no time, and if it wasn't for random generator i prolly wouldn't have stayed in ToH or I sure wouldn't play nearly as much as I do.
Yes restarts sux, but that wasn't the question!
I'm not implying that I can even compare to the elite of ToH, I just like random maps is all.

There is no official random map hero tourney, it's just players agreeing on playing a variation of hero tourney on Random map.
We can't play for ToT cause we're on same team, but if u want to try it for fun just ask Acu..anytime my friend..

I don't want to offend anyone but Splexx is right. Take Flamingo for example : He played Desert War for over 100 times. I think that's no fun. If a guy plays a map for so long it's no wonder he wins so many fights even he is a medium player.

yes,, seems like we are afraid of "new maps" or like.. we challenge someone ( or someone challenges us) and he points to a map we do not know.. and he /she played it like more than 10 times ( it is enough on my oppinion to know what you have to do..) and there is normally that you wont accept the challenge..
I say lets go for a rule like .. : a player can play same map not more than 3 times..
this is only a ideea

here is a fact people
(here is somethin to feed flamingos ego ) but, Id bet 50 dollars that Flamingo could beat 95% of you people on any Balanced map you chose if both of you played blind. And Id even be willing to say a lot of the top players really are good on all maps because of how they play. Take Zud as another example, he plays a large variety of maps, and wouldnt only win on a map that he played more often than another.
People just like to play what they enjoy most. And maybe its Hourglass 150 times...to them its like a game of chess with a twist where the board never changes. And if you say that a map like hourglass with 2 people who know it good is about luck is wrong..because I know a few people who will win 80-90% of the games on hourglass, regardless their luck.
And finally, I do agree people dont like to try new maps often. As a map maker I seen many of my maps get ignored. My prime example is Giant War. Was posted 6 months or so on TOH before people started playing it. Did it ever change within those 6 months? Nope

I agree with JB ---
Actually, the only thing I personally dont like about the " Memorized maps " so to speak.... isnt that they know every inch of it. But its that the MEET time is ALWAYS the same. I dont care if my opponent KNows ever hex or whatever...I just ant stand the idea that I know we will meed week3 day5 give or take a day.
That is the ONLY thing really I like about randoms. I never know where my opponent is or WHEN I will fight with him. That is the exciting part.
Seems like EVERY TOH map ever made was made with a week3 attack designed into map. Hit the high points, Utopias, pandoras box, quest, etc. then break week3 day 1 and go for opponent. Same over and over. So I think it isnt JUST about knowing every Hex and playing the same chess board. But would a chess player have fun playing if he knew he would Check mate his opponent with the same 15 moves and at the same time frame everytime???
he he I am babbling.
But JB is right, people should play what they like and enjoy. I lose 80% of the time on randoms but found out that it is lots more exciting hunting my opponent and playing the map and being suprised when I see there colored flag emerge from the black.... hehe
Just play and have fun.

I found the best way to convince players that restarts are not soo bad was this..
"Hey.. What map you feel like playin???"
hmmmmm... unless your playing a freind or something this can take as much time as restarts.
And if your going to try these 2o2 randoms.. there simply is no restarts. The only reason a 2o2 should be restarted is if you have previously decided that 3 or 4 templates are not playable in which case you restart on day 1 red turn.
I will most of the time just drop out of a game if playing a 2o2 and someone wants to restart day 5 or 6.. theres just no point.

I didn't say Flamingo is a medium player. I bet he is pretty good. But there is no fun to play a map over and over with the same moves and meet the other player when both are in the best shape. I like searching for the other players and not knowing exactly their position.

Random Discovery Tournament
Our Random Discovery Tournament is for all of the players who love random maps. This is a random addicts based tournament. The format is very simple . For every win a player receives 3 points and for every loss 1 point.
Random Discovery Tournament will run until September 1st. At that time the top three players will receive the following medals. To register email Knight_Xavier.
a bunch of players, and i, play the native rule, where you can only hire heroes that are native to the castle type you are using. It is alot of fun and cuts way down on turn time, And looking at Alamar staring you in the face for a week and not being able to buy him is absolute torcher, hehe. It's also fun because you never know, you may only have 2 heros the first week or you may end up with 6, you know the box of choclates thing =P, isn't that part of what makes heroes so great is you never know what your gonna get!!!!
Just one NOBs opinion!!!
