Good tricks to use

I created this topic so everyone can post good tricks and strategies that they feel working well untill now.

Lets go to some of them I found useful:

- Scouting lv 1 creature - you may wish leave a lv 1 creature blocking each one of the main access to your town. That way you will know when an enemy is coming to take your town far before he actually reach it, and you can prepare yourself to defend it.

- Creature in the market - When you find a market, you can leave a level 1 creature next to it. So, everytime you want to trade you just need to use your creature to visit the market.

Edit by Lich: +Qp for quality thread.

Tricks

It would be great to read about the tricks that the masters of the game use. My self I donīt have that many tricks but there is one thing I use as a standard tactic.

As said its good to know when the opponents armies arrive so I always leave one lv 1 creature at every mine I flag. They expend the scouting area of the mine and you will see when the "bad guys" arrive. This way they donīt take any place on the map either.

I found this on internet, but I think its worth to put it here:

Level 1 creatures cost very little to hire, and make wonderful gofers.  You can collect nearly all the resources near your starting town in just one or two days, by sending out stacks containing just one level one creature.  And if it gets caught by a wandering stack, no big deal; it didn't cost you very much.  Sprites and imps are good for this because of their speed; Bandits are still better, because they can sneak past L1 creatures to pick up resources and artifacts behind them.  Note that if your army single picks up an artifact, you need to take much better care of it until you can get the artifact to a hero.
They're also useful on Day 1 when you're trying to work out how best to use your main force's limited movement.  Just send out the single creatures in every available direction, scouting out the location of mines and suchlike.  Keep the explorers going til you reach the limit of your territory; then bring them back and allow them to rejoin your main army at some time when they're not going to destroy that army's movement.  You'll deploy them again when your main army breaks into a new area.

I guess the trick's your looking for is map strategy.
The level one posting, and gofering is something any decent gamer would come up with on his own.
I must add, a level one hero to flag mine's while the force make's his way to battle's.
Back to creature gofering, in some case's it can open up alot of the map. It's vital to understand the green/yellow arrow indication, and the fact that the creature will stop when he encounter's an uncovered enemy.

Can someone sum up all trick's/stratigies in a quick reference format
for example.

1: Gofer's. The level one creature's can pick up resource, and open up new map area.
2: Watches. Level one creature's give more visual radious than mine's and dwelling's. They also show map area where no mine's are.
3: Hero with point only to flag mine's/dwelling's while your army carries on.
4: Use level one creature to decide which path to go is best.
5: The best gofer's to use are one's with high movement, and/or stealth ability.

Can anyone think of other type's of map strategy?

Here is another good one:

The order spell Town Gate teleports your army to the nearest city. If you want to choose what city Town Gate will takes you, you just need to fill up the visiting slots of all your cities, exept the city you wanna go with Town Gate (of course you can do this spliting your creatures). Town Gate will takes you to the only city that has empity slots to receive your army!

There are a number of collected tips at MapHaven - that's where Daikon got his quote from - I'm not sure how well it fits the 'quick reference' format though :-)  Any new tips I see here, though, I'll email the poster to ask if I can copy on MapHaven.

And Jenova, about the Prima strategy guide - I assume that's what you're referring to? - it's very so-so; I went through it cover to cover, and came up with several tips by reading their suggestions and thinking 'that's not the best way to do it'.  In fact, I don't think I got *any* tips from the guide itself that I hadn't already worked out for myself, by just playing.  It has some reference pages, but they're suspect given that the Guide has to be put together some months before the game is released.

This is a little trick all of you will have found out about already, but for those who haven't...  When you are able to recruit peasants somewhere, create caravans of them regularly and put them somewhere safe (preferrably in a town).  Seems silly, but this can really really help to raise your daily income, certainly in the early game.
