What if allies could fight at the same time together against  an enemy or 2 allies that had also chosen to fight together?

I think that woudl be cool. My thoughts on it:
If you are to start a battle, you could call on your ally to help. The person would get a message from the person (Player 1)  requesting troops. The player with the message (Player 2) would select a few troups (only from a town, not in the field with a hero!) and instantly those troops would be sent to help player 1. But, player 2 could command his own troops.
I think this is what you were getting at, and yet I added a few of my own ideas.

That's a good idea, except I was sort of thinking that the allie's hero could also be there.  It wouldn't have to be there, but it could.

Yeah, the idea is very good, I like it. And that avatar, change it, it is Mystery's.
One more thing. Heroes4 is going to be a turn based game, how will the allied heroes fight together in the same battle having in mind that one plays a turn and then the next one. How are they going to enter the same battle in the same time. To solve this, there could be a sort of option to group the allied heroes before the battle, or many turns before the battle if they are close to one another.... it could work.

I know most people don't like the idea of simultaneous turns for heroes series but these old posts might help you guys come up with ideas for multihero or allied battles.

I think that the "end turn" button idea would really work.

1)Morning -Everyone would start off by building up their castle(just 1 building per castle as per usual) with a time limit or until everyone hits "done".

2)Midday -Then would move their heroes at the same time allowing people to "interreact" with other peoples moves (would prove to be very strategic in my opinion with feigning attacks and waiting for opponent to move first or u take initiative). If one hero makes it to another hero for a battle, their movement is done. this stage will be time limited as well or till everyone hits "done".

3)Evening -Then the most interesting part... Battles. In my opinion battles are all day affairs, requiring resting afterwards and preparation beforehand. A hero may battle just once per turn, with battles happenning at the end of the day(maybe even simultaneously to speed up game, wow that one just came to me hehe). If the creatures flee u get to keep going or u can fight them which will end up being reduced movement.

4) Also allows for the possibility of three or more heroes in one battle (eg 2 people battling same hero in one turn) resulting in special 3 or 4 player battle maps. Or in the case of teams, u could end up surrounding ur opponent (or creatures guarding something) like when u fight in the crypt etc. Creatures will retain stats/specials from their commanding hero only(unless a special "all creatures on the battlefield..." artifact is equipped)and once all that heroes creatures are gone he is defeated.

As for people trying to hit & run u in front of their castle, will only happen once if u're reasonably quick.
4 heroes will be the max in one battle, allowing the first hit & run to be a 3 versus 1 affair. And on next day u can just head straight to the castle while other player tries to hire back heroes.

I also propose a 2v1 scenario when fighting against a castle for the defending player allowing for a stronger castle defence. We've been able to have 2 heroes in our castles so why not let the battle be more realistic. One hero is not just going to sit there and watch as his castles defences get slaughtered.

It could also work if once you started a battle and called for help that the hero that you called for help from would get a turn every round to move to the battle until he was able to join it. Say there are 3 players #1 #2 and #3. 1 and 2 start battling and 1 calls 3 for help. the turns would go like this. 1 attacks, 2 attacks, 3 moves closer, 1 attacks, 2 attacks, 3 moves closer..... until 3 was able to join the battle.

Interesting Idea

But, how about if the first player loses, and then player 3 finally gets there, he continues the fight.
This aspect woudl be good but it woudl be complicated it seems, on the development part.
Zilpheg, I see you changed your little picture. It isn't worth that much but...at least you didn't get into a fit about it as I see some people do.

Definately, also maybe if the turns were simultaneos like rage suggested then there could be a three way battle where none of the people were allies.

Like Lords of the Realm

Actually I think it would be a great addition to add simultaneous movement to homm4, but it will cause some problems and require some changes.  In LotR, you were only moving armies to attack/defend, in homm you've got a lot of "adventure sites" that you'll visit...  plus you have the "fog of war", that LoR didn't.  To make it work for Homm, you'd need to be able to que up oders for a hero (i.e., Visit Shrine at 32,57,0; Visit Lumbermill at 34,58,0; Visit Garden of Enlightenment at 25,61,0  ect.), you would also have to be able to give the hero orders that are flexible and the hero would need to use an AI script to perform (i.e., explore/Gather Resources/Intercept Enemy Armies/ect.).  Finally, the movement phase would have to be updatable as your hero(es) perform their actions....   for instance you hero has just finished exploring a region of the map you told it to, once it finished the movement phase would be "interrupted" and a dialog box would pop up asking you if you wanted to give that hero (and that hero ONLY) additional orders....  but that could take a lot of time in multiplayer (it's fine for single player), and if you don't have that function, then how exactly are you going to explore when the "fog of war" is blocking out the map....

Like I said, It'd be great if they added it....  but It would require a lot of changes.


Speaking of Lords of the Realm (Which I wish sierra would put out #3), I'd also love it if you could toggle the standard "chess" battles or the Laid-Back Real-Time battles ala LotR....  just imagine sieging a LotR type castly with minotaurs and black dragons....  that would be killer!  But YES only as an OPTION you could choose from when you start the game.

Hmm....

With all the changes we are sudgesting, I think I'd rather go with the regular way that the series has come out with. With all these changes it may lose its style and the good stuff we always play for.

Whatever works out, it hopefully will be for the better. Maybe not continuous battles with three people (if you think of the current HoMM 3 battle screen, add another and it gets confusing), but maybe with the incoming player swtiching with the current player to fight the same enemy. That works, at least I think. Simple innovations wil make this game even better. Just not....really big game moving ideas.

Allies, in some way yes...
Castle and Inforno should't be allied, but Castle and Rampart maybe...I don't know...

I have a few ally ideas, based on the new magic system:

Since in the magic system, Chaos is allied with Death and Nature, opposed to Life and Order; Nature is allied with Life and Chaos, but opposed to Death and Order; Life is allied with Nature and Order, but opposed to Death and Chaos; Order is allied with Life and Death, but opposed to Chaos and Nature, etc. You should be able to have, say, Red Player allied with Orange Player and Green Player, however, green player allied with purple player, and orange player allied with blue player, but then red player against blue and purple. See what I mean?

Next, in a battle, when it's your turn, you should be able to click "pause battle." Then, you should be able to say, "Hey, Jeddite, get over here with those Black Dragons" or something and have him join the battle. Battles could not last more than one turn, however, so whoever previously mentioned allies joining a battle, sorry.
