Uhm did I like start a big controversey again?
On the bach thing I happen not to like classical music in general, not just christian ones. Call me a heathen if you like, but the simple fact is as brilliant as I'm sure that music technically is, I don't like to listen to it. It's personal preference only in my case. By the same why I realise Shakespere is the greatest playwright ever, but his works bore me when I read them, and only mildly amuse me when I watch them.
I will though not read or listen to things that are overtly shoving religion in my face and insisting I pay attention that's all. So for example I can appreciate the cistine chapel, but object to listening to bible music as it is directly trying to preach to me.

Man oh man, I guess we haven't read the same series.
The Trilogy was groundbreaking and set the stage for an entire genre of fiction.
But that's about it. The "Forbidden Planet" as a movie was the same thing--at the time.
Far superior works have come out since then.
Harry Potter is a better series than LotR, but the movies based on the trilogy are far superior.

I have to agree that it is an unreasonable comparison. I voted for LOTR of course because it is the best story I have ever read. However, to the credit of Harry Potter, it is an extremely entertaining story and it entices kids to read which is much more than some. You have to remember that one of the main reasons for fiction books is to entertain. Even if HP is not the deepest and creative works in history, it is extremely fun to read.

Can't leave my own thread out in the dark... so I'm resurrecting it.
Well, back to this problem with LOTR/Harry Potter, I have now watched both movies, and while I find the LOTR movie epic and tale-like, to the credit of the Harry Potter movies Daniel Radcliffe and Co. made a good show of Harry Potter and his colleagues/enemies to the audience, and for that, I can appreciate both movies, although I couldn't decide which one I preferred.

LOTR is considered the ground work of new era mythology.
Harry Potter, ha, they had to INVENT a category called "Children's Sci-Fi/Fantasy" for it to rank high in THAT category.
Hmmm, I guess there is no comparison. LOTR is FAR better.

Well, not that much... But Harry Potter is better, IMO.

LOTR. Nothing else to it. It's just better.
