I am very amused.  It amuses me when people say that one thing is "better" than another or that this is good or that is bad.  Who says?  And why?

The only reason playing D&D is "worse" than participating in a "real life" activity (whatever that means) is because the majority of people don't play it.  Its the same for any activity we invest our time in.

Yeah, winning the nobel peace prize or winning the boston marathan are hard earned achievements, but does that mean they are better than watching tv?  If you think so then tell me why.

Better presumes that we are being judged.  By who? Each other or a higher power.  If each other then what's the criteria?  Virtue?  Wealth?  Noble intentions?  Ask one hundred people and you will get one hundred different answers to what is important in life.  And people are pretty clueless in general anyway, especially in groups.

If a higher power then how the heck do we know what this higher power believes is important?  Some religions have answers to this question, but I havn't seen any proof myself.

I'm not sure why I'm discussing this here, except that I like D&D and games in general and I don't get people who judge.  Remember 10-20 years ago when only kids played games?  Now games are a bigger industry then movies!  Its all about what the majority is willing to except...which changes over time.

Read some history and you'll discover some interesting things people did in the past.  Are we better or worse then the romans, or the greeks, or the first humans?  Maybe we're just different?

Exactly, and it's these different answers that cause war, death, destruction and anarchy. As soon as you make the distinction between one thing being better than another you get into these arguments.

What a toss.

I've DM'd roleplaying for 12 years, various games, from D&D to Cthulu to Star Wars and I've never heard a bigger load of drivel. Once a week, no addictions, I love it, kills staring at a computer screen nd is a social activity. You know "social activity" the type you have to get away from from your computer for? Please, who are you to judge, sitting their typing on your little computer, secluded from the real world. People who get obsessed with a roleplaying game are weak minded fools anyway.

Take a look at yourself before you judge anything else, tools.

Totally agree with rychenroller; not only Celfious is a fool, he's also a hypocrite, like rychenroller said. In conclusion, don't make judging statements unless u know what ur talking about.

Well at least the opinions against D&D here aren't as bad as the utterly insane christian far right groups in America, who believe D&D (along with television, video, cinema, radio, books etc) are making their children satans little worshippers.....

I recall somebody telling me once that one such Christian suggested that all such material that had proven links to inciting murder and other crimes should be banned. Roll on the banning of the bible is all I can say

Hmm....

Being a stay at home parent, I think I might be able to understand why so many people have so poor a view of this sort of thing. I think there is some merit to those views. I think there is also merit to the good of playing D&D-type games.

i was bored and wanted to see who said what about me lol

i googled "celfious is a" and this is all i got

I was on some spiritual crisis roller coaster during these times. I don't even know what I said in this thread right now but i can say whatever I went through was probably imperative to have this insight I do now, which, unfortunately is somewhat meaningless to the way I relate in the world of man and woman

I agree with him. Pretending to be someone else and run around a made up world is a huge waste of time and can lead to obsession, wich is most certenly not a good thing. I think you should be making a differance in this normal world not playing useless games of D&D and wishing that you could do the sorts of things your charecter in the game can do.

But if you are going to waste the time anyway, go nuts!!

Hmmm that remids me of something.... what was it called? oh yeah... A BOOK

RPG games are just books in which you control the action, for people who say other wise, i suggest you asathecomics advice.
