Cave of Gerfrex
Cave of Gerfrex
I understand that some people have had troubles with Cave of Gerfrex, especially with either the large Medusa stack in the underground or with Crag Hack not appearing in the tavern. (The Tan hero is supposed to automatically dispose of the Medusa stack for you.)
These two problems were caused by certain changes in WoG and ERM--the map worked fine in the original version but messed up in some other versions.
However, if you use the latest version of Cave of Gerfrex along with WoG 3.57f (see recent posting), it should work fine. I just played through it and it all worked correctly.
I think the WoG site now has the lastest version of Cave of Gerfrex (should be 1.4) and I believe this will work, but if you want to be safe, you can also download it from MapHaven http://heroes.mycomport.com/ or if necessary, you can email me and I'll send it to you.
If you use 3.57f and the latest version and still find errors, please report them to me. Thanks.

Evil
Do you really think that to fight "evil" [I don't like this word] you MUST have clean hands? Yes, in white gloves?

Of course not! You can have dirty hands but wear a white HAT instead!

I had trouble...
I had trouble as well. I still haven't figured out how you are supposed to be able to walk through the walls/rocks in the underground to get to the Necrop, but turning the Tome of Earth onto a Tome of Air, using Gleu to upgrade 400+ elves into sharpshooters, and DDing to the castle worked out just fine. Can someone please tell me the way it was supposed to be done? Maybe also list the choices and consequences of each action? Thank you for your help, and you're welcome if no one else thought to do what I did.

It was a long time ago but I remember that when you reach the impassable rocks you get a message from your brother Crag Hack who is very skilled pathfinder. Then you can buy him from the tavern and if he goes next to the rocks they disappear.

Then he has to come all the way back to the boat so you can get across, or do you just use him to win? I know there was some thing where you can call your main hero next to him by sending a hero to the spot next to the windmill, but that never worked right for me. I always ended up next to some other green-faced screaming hero by the windmill, sometimes in my boat which required an autosave load. Is the Tome of Air method too cheap? And do you know the rest of the choices and consequences of each?

Sorry, it really was a long time ago. I might try to play the map again tonight and see what happens.
Btw wogifying any campaign map can and most likely will make it unplayable so don't do it unless you're sure what you're doing.
P.S. It's nice not to quote if you are replying to the last post in a thread, it keeps it cleaner.

Sorry, I didn't see the reply button at the bottom; I'm new. But how did you know I quoted you when I deleted the quote?
You mean not to WOGify HOMMIII campaign maps, right?

Err, I deleted the quote ...
And yes, don't wogify HoMM3 campaigns (RoE, AB, SoD and WoG). For the first three some artifacts/buildings can be replaced with something and break a quest. For the last anything can happen ...

Oh, I thought I did. That is how I was replying to others when I didn't want to quote. I must have left yours on if you're the one that deleted it.
