You can't refer to entire countries when speaking in that type of context.

Yes, how can one say he´s proud of Tonya Harding and David Hasselhoff?

Okay, let's try this one more time.  Aquaman, Helcahisie did not refer to "Americans."  She referred to "America."

Deny this country exists as a whole, single, increasingly disliked international force all you want.  Whether it is truth or illusion, this country is disliked and I think it would behoove us to at least give people a chance to explain why before we presume what their reasons might be and pass judgment on them.

When I was in the Soviet Union during the Cold War we made many friends.  Usally the first line of conversation, upon learning we were Americans was, "Why do you want to go to war?"  To which we would always respond, "We do not as individuals.  Our government acts in ways and takes positions on international issues that do not necessarily stand for our personal sentiments."

Whereupon, the individual Americans and Russians would begin relationships including long discussions about how we perceived one another as individuals because of the way our governments represented us to one another.  Of course the United States as a nation never "wanted" to go to war either.  But sabre-rattling and representations of a willingness to do so under the platform of Mutually Assured Destruction made it appear that "we" did.  It was all very enlightening, indeed.

So let's give a change, shall we?
