Girls beat boys at school!

HAVE YOU HEARD THE NEWS?

It seems that the girls beat boys in 9 out of 10 subjects.

The only subject where the boys are still better is P.E (gym).

At least this is the situation in Norway right now, but I bet that it's not much better abroad. Boys don't choose subjects like maths and chemistry any longer. NO, they want to start working right away, and because of that they choose education in f.ex. mechanical education, i.e. car repairing and so on.

So hey, why are we slacking off? And let the girls become the smartest?

He-he. So will boys end up as a clan of car-repairing half-wits or will we have to fight to beat the girls?

So what do you think about these shocking news?

...how accurate is this?

It sounds more like regression of the men and progression of them woman-people.

Doesn't make any sense to me...

This is highly dependent on country and school. For example, in my school the guys are waay smarter than girls and they are the ones taking the exact sciences. I think this does not depend on the capabilities of a gender but on the general education and society they live in: maybe in your country most guys are taught to believe that getting a job without post secondary education is the right thing to do: doesn't mean this is so all around the world and does not mean this applies to all guys.

also take in mind that threadmaker is referring to n00begians here, and from what i know they got no "real" boys...only sissies and girls...

and most things are up&down in norway anyway so why should this be any different?

You really shouldn't mess with Planes this way, coz he's the brightest person in our class.... (I'm second, BTW;-))

But other than us, most of the brainy persons in our class are girls.

Or brainy? At least they do their homework and get the best grades...

Conclusion: Girls aren't brighter in any way; they're just less lazy than us boys!

(So, lazy-factor included, we're just as smart.)

Well, heh..

Maybe us norwegian lads are stupid after all, but I'd like to see more norwegians reply to this since the news was posted in a norwegian paper.

Maybe this is only the situation in Norway?

Don't know, anyway I think I agree with yous:
Why can't we let the girls be the smartest?

What do you say?

I think it's quite obvioius why we can't "let girls be smarter": doing so poromotes inequality and gender bias, which is something we have enough of in our society today.

Plus, you have to consider which grades you are talking about. In grade 11 and up to university there is a big change, as studying hard becomes less imporant than actual knowledge and understanding of the material - not to even mention your actual level of intelligence. Prior to grade 11 school is just a joke (in most countries) and many guys seem to know this and choose not to study.

Homework and studying is useless. This school system has failed me.
Just because a lot of girls spend a huge amount of time doing their homework, studying, doing sports and talking about whatever girls talk about doesn't mean anything. Ok, sure plenty of them are highly intelligent, especially compared to me so I can't exactly say anything about them, but further on, away from this "regular school stuff" we'll see about that. At least most of us are taught to have a fairly well-rounded pool of knowlege to draw from before we begin to specialize in something more related to the work field, but when it comes to that, when that kind of thing happens in the university, I believe there may be some changes. I don't personally know yet, so I'll see sooner or later...and hopefully I don't turn out to be as stupid as I think, and you say I'm becoming

Hei, ja, gutta.

I guess it's already been said. Education isn't really challenging until university. My personal experience is that boys are generally brighter and smarter, but, as mentioned, lazier. Don't get me wrong, there are some smart girls too, (quite a lot of them on this board, what, me, sucking up?), I just generally find girls a bit dense. At least, grasping abstract concepts and such often seems difficult to them.

But they're better at multitasking than us, I'll give them that any day. Watching my mother doing needlework, keep a conversation going and getting the nine'o'clock news at the same time is fascinating.

What worries me, though, is boys' apparent lack of interest in reading books. Girls will often read cheesy romance novels, but still, that's better than nothing.

Norwegian 10-year olds recently came in 26th in an international survey to chart european children's reading skills. That's disgraceful when Norway's one of the richest countries in the world. Shame on us!

Many interesting things you say, but...

I find myself poor at abstract things. For example, I can't write letters to non-existent people, as the teachers often tell us to. And about multi-tasking... I can do origami (a crane from a 2cm x 2cm piece of paper) and understand every single thing the teacher says . Does that make me a girl? LOL

Well, this is true. There aren't many guys who enjoys reading books. They'll rather play soccer or mess up the neighbourhood... hmmm...

However, I read books, not so many as my friend Terje (thanks for backing me up, BTW )
Maybe this interest has something to do with my dad, since he was very interested in books and he had a big library. Well, it's still there. Don't read romance novels though. The most serious book I've ever read was "Markens grøde" by Knut Hamsun. Prefer sci-fi, fantasy and so on... heh, should start reading "Do androids dream of electric sheep?" - the blade runner book.

How about you DonGio? Read anything?

OK, maybe it's true that school doesn't become interesting before uni. Don't know yet!!

...I wouldn't worry about that Woock... I can headbang while programming, talking on the phone and chating with someone in the net... and I'm pretty sure I am not a girl ...at least Morwen agrees with me on that

on the subject now, I always thought that school was a joke, that homework was a pain in the butt (yeah I'm your average lazy guy... but hey, I'm Greek ) and that the challenge rating of anything we did in class was close to nada... on the other hand, I always enjoyed reading a good book (or two) before going to sleep... during my 22 years of life, I've met quite a few girls that could rival my knowledge, comprehensive ability and love for the exact sciences... they however, were not half as lazy as I was so they always were considered better at least until university when things got even...

bottom line, I'm not sure there is a general rule... I guess it depends on each person and what he/she wants from life...

Apparently the way it works worldwide in terms of intelligence (measured by IQ, I know, I know, but it tells part of the story) is that girls are on average more intelligent than boys, but there are more boy geniuses than girl geniuses.  (there are also more boy retards than girl retards.)  In other words, male intelligence has a much higher standard deviation than girl intelligence.

I'm used to that there is at least 95% americans on such forums. Let me know how many Norwegians there is on this forum, and what names they have here.

ok some info about me...

I'm from Ålesund 17 years old going to Fagerlia Videregående (Musikklinja). I play guitar, especially black metal. Played guitar for about 4 years. Most music bores me nowadays I can't find a real challenge. Used most of my life in front of a computer. Been really interested in programming, especially game programming but I'm not really good because I haven't found any good tutorials for programming yet. And, I compose music too.

About Clemet she sucks ass, I hate the current government in Norway. They're a bunch of fools. I don't think Clemet is to blame for school results, it's society which is getting more and more lazy. However Clemet isn't making things any better. Rather the opposite.
