There are two towns where I would place the griffin in:
- Castle/Haven
- Academy/Wizard Town

I feel that the griffin feels best at either of these towns.

I actually voted for Life/Castle since I use the Griffins a lot back in HOMM3... MULTIPLE RETALIATION...oh yeah!!!... I sort of look for them in my Haven Town... But here's my suggestion...

Every town should have its own type of Griffin because it seems that they become good or evil or whatever else depending on who domesticates them... depending on who commands them... they seem to be such flexible creatures... Therefore... Life/Haven - Royal Griffins, Nature - Wild Griffins, Death - Vampire Griffins... something like that!

I prefer.. less creature variation, but more creatures... So, I think Nature should have Griffins and Life monks and Crusaders for example...

LOL.. well, i dont think we need all that many griffins, but just Wild Griffins and Noble Griffins would work.. its not like this would be the first time with creature-variations, for example: there were Stone, Iron, Steel, Gold, and Diamond Golems, which is nothing compared to all the dragons so far - Green Dragons, Red Dragons, Black Dragons, Gold Dragons, Bone Dragons, Ghost Dragons, Faerie Dragons, Rust Dragons, Crystal Dragons, Azure Dragons, and now Dragon Golems.
So, one type of griffins in a Castle type town and another in a neutral town would probably work - it has before with Dragons!

nope,I still think we should take only 1 griffin and put it on a mountain somewhere in the wastelands where they serve the barbarians and all...

Did you all notice that besides griffins, gargoyles and centaurs have also changed towns twice? Coincidentally, they are all homm2 warlock units...

yes, its a global conspiracy to eliminate warlocks  even from the memories of people, to make sure no present town can be associated with them anymore. its 1984.

thats because they completely took out the Warlock castle and had to move all it's creatures into different ones... i guess none of them seemed to fit in one specific town in homm3 so they switched them again in 4

I read Steven Donaldson's "Tomas Covenant" these days. In the book, griffins are evil, and very strong creature as well.

Does that mean griffins should return to the Chaos/Warlock town like they did in Heroes 1 and 2?

Hmm... I myself loved them in the Castle town and I think they could fit in well in a Stronghold/Might town.
As for Nature.. Don't you have enough darn creatures as is?
Anyway they really helped benefit the Almighty Castle in HOMM3 because they gave them some extra wings (which were very sorely missed in HOMM2, where the Knight's Castle was not exactly considered a powerhouse.)
They were okay in the Warlocks town as I grew accustomed to them since they were their twice. In short any town EXCEPT Nature IMO.

I would say griffins really belong to Castle Town. They were treasure guardians, the holy birds afterall.

Warlocks are still in heroes 4, you just need to learn Nature and Chaos magic.

Are griffins supposed to be chaotic units (they weren't chaotic in Heroes 3).

another argument for Might

In one of the Might campaign scenarios, Waerjak is presented with a diadem inscribed with griffins, because his name apparently means "griffin" in an old language.  So, there are now griffins on the crown of the Barbarian King...but none in the towns?
