Comments: The history, while very imaginative, is quite disjointed and therefore difficult to keep up with. However, the additions of Hero biographies and campaigns have earned you 2 extra points in this regard – it is great that you’ve fully-fleshed out the town’s storyline, inhabitants, and role in the game. Unfortunately, the race is much too similar to the Conflux, and the idea of putting elementals in a town isn’t original, since it was done in Heroes III. The balance is fairly well done, through the compensation of raw statistics for numbers, (though the Wisps have are too powerful for a level 1 with the incorporeal ability) and is a match for the Necropolis. Again, there is nothing too original for the creatures, and although the last level Chimera is an interesting addition, it is perhaps slightly out of step with the rest of the town. Overall, the detail and effort you have put into the town is excellent, it is just a disappointment that you have chosen to re-develop an old race with similar creatures.

Race: 7

Comments: An interesting race, though too similar to the Haven with their imperialistic lifestyle. The polytheistic form of worship is a unique idea, though the rest of the history is short, concise and well-written. While not a revolutionary list of creatures, you have been measured with their abilities (except Maidens and Initiates), and their balance is comparable to other towns. More description would be appreciated on the history of the sylphs and how they came to being. This is a good town, and integrates well into the world of Heroes.

Comments: This town has a really good feel about it – the amalgamation of a Preserve/Rampart and Dungeon castle along with the auxiliary pictures gives the town a great atmosphere. The history, however, is too short and some further interaction with other factions would have been telling to see the integration into the current world. The balance of the town is quite good, matching the current Heroes V mode with a high level spellcaster, and a well-adjusted number of flyers and shooters. More descriptions are needed on this front, however, as well as some indication of statistics.

The Glacis is an idea I pondered up when seeing Nival’s Russian contest for the first time. This was made in the period before the ICTC was announced, and it has been in limbo since then. As a judge, I cannot enter into this contest, and therefore there is no ICTC prefix. People who are working on the Barbarian/Ice Town might like to use things for ideas, as I’m not meant to help people directly. I doubt that my ideas will be of any great value to you, but, regardless of their merit, here they are.

Aka: The Runic Battle Oxes
Associated colors: Teal, Black, White
Worship: Sylath, Dragon of the Air
Core Philosophy: “We shall succeed; through might or magic.”
Country / kingdom: Runefall, the storm of snow
Capital city: High Rellium, the Glacial Fortress
Key symbols: The Ox, The Battle Axe

Overall description:

The Glacis is an amalgamation of dwarves, humans and ogres who all have a likeness for the cold. Despite being of three completely different races, they have assimilated and created a cohesive society skilled in the arts both martial and mystical. Dwarves are known for their metallurgical skills, ogres for their weapon-wielding ability, and the humans for a little of both. The Dwarves manufacture large axes and war machines for the Ogres to use in battle, the humans conjure up spells, and all are utilised efficiently on the field of combat.

The inhabitants wield large axes, and dressed flamboyantly in helmets adorned with horns, and ornate armour. Shields can be used, but not as regularly, as their gargantuan battle axes double as both. They often wear their hair long and their beards short. Their landscape, while not as (ant)arctic as others, is still situated well south of the equator, and they live amongst the tundra, snow, and occasional blizzard. At some times of the year, there is no snow, but this lasts only for 1-2 months, while the opposite 6 months snow storms fill the area, and the 2 months either side of that bring moderate conditio ... post shortened to 2000 characters.
Heroes 4 - Lands of Axeoth: How do I beat my friend!?!?! Life vs. Chaos

Hi ScottX, welcome to the forums.

Beating a close friend is always a big occassion.

The following are my in-battle tactics for overcoming Chaos. http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes4/tactics_life.shtml

Asylum is an easier town to overcome due to their narrow spellcasting problems, and also because Haven's spells focus on blessing rather than damaging the opponent, making Black Dragons' ability impotent. The hit point disadvantage life suffer can be alleviated through the use of Prayer. Once again, if the Priest has Chaos Ward, it should be cast in preference of any other spell. The Terror ability of the Nightmare is troublesome against Angels or magic heroes, but, the Nightmare has the capacity for 1 Terror, and even if they were split up into 2 or 3 stacks, Crossbowmen and your Nature Archer hero should be able to eliminate at least one stack quickly. Chaos spells are primarily direct damage, which plays into Life's hands since Life magic is centred around healing - nullifying the effects of these spells. Thus, Chaos will be forced to rely on its strained repertoire of spells like Cat Reflexes, which cannot be used on creatures like Black Dragons. This is a problem for Chaos, as, without a flyer, they cannot stop Life's rangers. Precision and Bless should be cast, especially on Crusaders, as they will be doing the brunt of the attacking work in the centre of the field against Nightmares/Efreeti and Bandits. An Angel with Prayer should be able to defeat half as much Black Dragons, while Ballistae are the perfect adversary against Medusae, as their best ability cannot be used.

Creatures to Use: Ballistae, Crusaders, Angels.

Spells: Mass Chaos Ward, Prayer, Precision, Bless.

Good luck with it. If you need more help, keep navigating around that page. Also, don't tell your friend about it.

A revelation has shocked the Heroes world - game designers are allowing the fans to make towns for their game!

Nival Interactive have given fans the opportunity to create their own town for Heroes V and step into the designers' shoes. With all towns for the upcoming game all finalised, one can only assume that this contest has been issued with a look towards the Heroes V Expansion pack.

With the wealth of talent and creative minds Heroes Community boasts in terms of town-making, getting one of these 'home-made' towns into the actual game may no longer be a pipe dream.

Among the newest contributors to the forums, Blitzkrieg_Boy, Fortress_Fan, and, of course, the ever-imaginative TDL, will have a chance to display their works to the game designers, along with anyone else who wishes to take up the challenge.

This is a truly golden opportunity for all members of the Hommunity, and even if you don't win, there are still great prizes available, including a mobile phone and a game steering wheel.

One warning, we are now sure that the contest is open worldwide, but the second hurdle is whether the submissions can be in English.

Before you begin a game, it is advisable to tick off all your areas of prospective success, and where your strengths will lie if you choose a certain build-up over another. In the case of Haven, there are two options the player has, depending on the availability of resources and the size of the map.

On a small map, with a shortage of crystal, it is almost impossible to go for Angels, and the player is more or less forced to go with the Pikemen, Monk, Champion line-up. I’m not a big fan of Monks myself, dealing less than half the damage of a Crusader, and having a slower combat speed. Monks are obviously not units that you cannot depend on for heavy-hitting damage, even with precision and bless, they are easily cut down by forgetfulness and other flying units spell the end for monks. These are level 3 creatures that can be neutralised by Sprites for a few, vital turns in combat. Crusaders definitely have the advantage here, especially if you are lucky enough to cast cat reflexes, or make use of Life’s own Prayer and Bless to maximise this damage over two shots. (What some people don’t realise is the Crusader’s damage range is in fact 12 not 6, and when multiplied by the number of Crusaders, 32 damage instead of 20 is a huge difference.

TDL has a point in that Tactics somewhat compensates for the Champion’s weakness in its speed and movement. Champions are definitely more effective in terms of damage, but Angels, after their self-resurrection, have a chance to deal this damage twice. Champions, due to their low HP, lose numbers quickly, and therefore require special attention from spellcasters in terms of guardian angel, martyr, and regeneration to ensure that they continue to deal damage for as long as possible. Due to their higher HP, Angels make greater use of these spells, as already stated, and the
Priests do not have to concentrate on them since they have their own healing mechanism if required. They can focus on other blessings such as Prayer, Ma ... post shortened to 2000 characters.
