Indeed, beta testers are not allowed to speak of anything concerning the beta due to the non-disclosure agreement. It is good news that you were able to speak with Rob King about the current iterations of legendary Heroes music.

Rob used to post here under the name of 'HeroesMusicMan' back when Heroes IV was being released, but to say that the combat music is the best of the series is extremely uplifting. The mere fact that the same team have completed the music for Heroes V will ensure that Heroes will keep an authentic feel, even if it is only in the musical department.

While the fact that the Heroes Music team was to be kept for Heroes V, Rob's personal opinion about his favourite themes and the quality of the combat themes is new information. I personally will find it hard for anything to beat one of the Heroes II combat themes, but now I have something to compare it to. The HC Menu plays random Heroes II music themes everyday.

Another new piece of information, if it can be deciphered in this manner: "the siege and combat themes". Now if he means that there will be two separate themes, or he is talking about the same theme (the more likely occurence) remains to be seen.

Regardless, thanks for posting this information, but unfortunately nothing can be revealed about the beta to the general public - but at least you know it is ready and it is apparently just as good as the previous series'.

LordZXZX:
Larisa, a Nival PR, has posted answers to 36 questions asked on the Nival board today. It has been posted on the Age of Heroes site. Larisas Question and Answer. It also answers your question about the Phoenix, LordZXZX.

Alas, the Barbarians have been omitted from the original release version of Heroes V. I have high hopes for them returning in the next expansion though.

My Reasoning:
Fabrice stated that there would be about 130 creatures in the game in total. (His words were that they'd top the number of creatures in Heroes III with expansions). Seeing as there are 14x6 = 84 + 10 or so neutrals, there is easily space for another town.

Another good sign for the moment is that there are 6 towns, each one having an opposite. Therefore, it would make sense to either:
Add a Barbarian town with no opposite (similar to Heroes IV) or...
Add a Barbarian town with a very magical opposite, though this is unlikely since the Academy already has claims on that title.

As Malekith has so rightly stated, the Academy is a confirmed town for Heroes V. It first made its appearance in the Heroes series in Heroes II, under the name of 'Wizard'. It was a more basic line-up in those days, oriented towards magic, but it was only in Heroes III where the so called 'traditional' Tower creatures emerged, like the Genie and the Naga. The Genie was a powerful neutral creature in Heroes II, and the Naga was not in the game at all.
The Heroes II Wizard Line-up
1. Halfling (shooter)
2. Boar (walker)
3. Iron Golem -> Steel Golem (walker)
4. Roc
5. Mage -> Archmage
6. Giant -> Titan
Of these creatures, the Boar should go, in my opinion, that was just a quick solution since the gargoyles were already in Warlock at the time, and Dwarves were in Sorceress (where they belong, in my opinion).

The Heroes V Academy town will keep that 'magical' image about them, as the Necropolis town's magic department is formed from undead wizards from the Academy. The Liches are described to be wizards who strayed from the path as it were. I too believe that magi will be back as a spellcaster for them, perhaps an archrival for the lich, as Titans vs Black Dragons.

Heroes III saw a turn from a neutral landscape for the Tower into an icy plain. Introduction of creatures such as gargoyles I think are incongrous with the rest of the towns style. The Gremlins were fine, if not a little generic, but the way they were depicted suited the town. The Golems will definitely be back - they add the dimension of magic resistance to the town. The Naga's depiction in Heroes III was admirable - it was well with the layout of the town, but in Heroes IV, they changed it into more of a desert-like snake and was again another creature that didn't suit the terrain.

I believe the Academy will retain its icy landscape for Heroes V. It appears that every town has a native terrain in Heroes V. So far we have:

Inferno: Volcanic

These screenshots from E3 are a slight development from the batch of four seen not too long ago. They still show the same environments, but there are also a few different things, such as the long-awaited town screenshot. And, along with the movies and the trailer, a few new elements of the game reveal themselves.

Nival seem to have an obsession with beams of light emanate for just about every possible adventure map object or treasure. I'm not really sure what this achieves apart from brightening up the map, but in my opinion is unrealistic and, if anything, rids the game somewhat of the mature fantasy world Ubisoft had planned. (Best illustrated in Screenshot 1)
The detail, is very good, and there seems to be a lot more movement in the game now, and it is not just a hero interacting with the landscape; but there are farmers, peasants, and other people of the land who give the game life.

In screenshot 2 we can see the upgraded succubus creature guarding some treasure. Not particularly interesting, but it will be to see if the creatures actually move towards you and roamlife Heroes IV. Also, the precision placement of trees and obstacles and such makes me wonder how an intraversable section of the map will be determined.

The armoured Griffin continues by contempt for this noble's creature's appearance in Heroes V. I'm not sure where blue armour are 'tassles' are made, but a fully-armoured creature looks incongruous with the rest of the Heroes Universe, even if it is in the Human town. I dug up this picture, and you tell me if you think had some sort of an influence on this Armour Griffin. I certainly think so.
We also see a Monk or religious man, who, in my opinion, looks excellent. The ankh he is holding is a nice touch. (We also see the Angel actually has feet ) The ankh seems to be a common theme among the Haven creatures (as it has been in the Heroes series), with the Angel ... post shortened to 2000 characters.

Foregoing the previous discussion, these new screenshots give slightly different perspectives upon the adventure map and combat map, but, as vladpopescu79 has retorted, there is nothing to do with the town screen or the entire map as we have known it from previous series. However, we must work with what we have, so I’ll just make some brief comments I think are perhaps worth sharing.

Screenshot 1
We catch a glimpse of the dirt terrain, which looks nicely rendered, and have also noted the plants are a different colour again for the dirt. It could be that each terrain has their own set of features like in Heroes II. It will be interesting to see if those pieces of ore actually move down the chute in an animation or if they’re static. We can also safely say that the crates of ore are indeed the stand-alone resource, as there is one in the background without an accompanying mine.

Screenshot 2
This is another screenshot of the battle map, as we see a new creature, the Crusader, or Paladin as some have called it. I prefer to think of it as the former, as that has been present where the Paladin has not. Paladin was hero class in Heroes IV, and the Crusader was a creature, additionally, the Paladin was nowhere to be seen in Heroes III. The Crusader holds another large sword, but it is in the realms of realism, even if the handle is slightly elongated, if he were to grasp it with 2 hands, it would be an adequately sized handle. The shield is also quite large, almost reminiscent of the ancient roman shields, except this one is made out of wood, which is curious... Perhaps sacrificing safety for looks? The Crusader is on the defensive, and the Balor towers over it, obviously on the offensive. The Crusader wears a similar head-ornament to that of the hero, suggesting they are of the same town. Actually, the helmet appears, at least from behind, to be in the mould of the Heroes III Crusader helmet, which I did particularly like.

As with the rest of the Heroes Community, there seems to be differing opinions on the graphics seen here already in the earliest known incarnation of the game. There are those who hate it, those who like some parts and not others, and those who like it. I myself would fall in the second category. The fact that they are leaning towards the more Japanese style and moving away from the medieval is a move I do not like at all. The style of certain creatures, such as the angel, is not what I’d come to expect from a Heroes game, but these are new developers and they have different ideas on what should and shouldn’t be in the game. It is clear to me already that Heroes V will be a very different game to its predecessors graphics-wise simply due to the 3D graphics and new art-style. There’s no point in telling them to change the art-style now, I’m just hoping that the rest of the game will look more traditional.

TitaniumAlloy

“The 3D graphics on the knight/monsters looks very Warcraftish, and very different from all the other HoMM games. I dunno about that, a good decision?”

I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing in terms of graphics, but seeing as this is Heroes of Might and Magic, not Warcraft, I think one should be able to immediately tell the difference between the two. Heroes 2 had that distinct style. This game may perhaps blend in with all the other 3D fantasy strategy games, and that would be disappointing.

“They've said that they're introducing a new battle system, it looks almost RTS from the pictures there but I'm not sure.”

Even though it may look Real-Time, they have confirmed that it will be Turn-Based like the rest of the series, so there’s no need to worry.

I will somewhat agree with your statement that the landscape is nice and the creatures are not – some of them appear OK. For example, the Balor that is fighting the Angel looks good to me, and so does the little impish creature in the 4th screenshot. I ... post shortened to 2000 characters.

As the rest of the world is slowly realising, Heroes V has been announced and is due to be released early next year. With the first 'influx' of four screenshots, it would be odd if we did not discuss the evidence of the new game after so many other discussions on small tidbits of information previously.

Obviously the very first screenshot has been showcased on many websites that are in correlation with the game, but what has been somewhat unheralded is the new heading and title font.

The font being used for the game at present has taken on a much more modern vibe, instead of the Old English medieval style that we are used to seeing throughout Heroes games. The silver reflects the concept of modernising. However, it is in a familiar layout, with the word "Heroes" again being the main focus, as one would expect.
Another familiar sight graces us to left of the font. We were already sent artwork of this particular 'creature' and the best guess is that it is a celestial being. While not confirmed that it is an Angel, there has been evidence, as you will see in the next screnshots, that suggest it is heaven's main warrior.
The background is reminiscent, for me, of The Lord of The Rings, with the contrast between Good and Evil quite evident. In the larger version, a floating castle can be seen, so too can another castle upon a hilltop, many mountains with structures placed on their sides, and a silhouette of 4 chains emanating from beneath the 'H' into the igneous depths below.

Screenshot 1

The first image is also the most enlightening. While some claim that it is a 'mockup' an in game picture taken from a perspective and with quality that would be unachievable in the published copy, but most think not.

The primary focus is on the Hero, and the first thing the eye notices is the undulating landscape before him, ... post shortened to 2000 characters.

GrimReaper:
It is unfair to other threadmakers if you intentionally bump your own to the top without adding any content as you have done a few times here.
Instead of writing "somebody speak" add something new to your idea so that discussion may be once again stimulated. If this fails, it would be be just to leave the thread be and create another one if you so desire.
