Personally I don't if I should pick Rayman Origins or Sonic Generations (I think the first is better but I'm a sonic fan).
Anyways, i really love Kodial's idea, althought I don't know if I would like to see hand drawn creatures...

Actually they could create completely hand drawn 2D maps and objects. I believe that if done right (Yeah, "done right" isn't UbiHole's specialty, I know...), they would look very beautiful and pretty passable. Hand drawn environments in video games these days are considered very artistic.

The pros would be that there would be no spot alike in any of the maps. Everything would be unique with the exception of interactive objects, I suppose...

I think hand drawn 2D maps work well with the not-so-popular-anymore adventure games (runaway, tunguska, etc.) but not sure about Heroes and games involving lots of objects....

I don't see why not. Since a lot of people seem to want to 2D back, and well, hand-drawn would just feel more beautiful, artistic and epic which is something that a lot of people are looking for in heroes, than computer graphics.

I hear you, 2D would be cool, but not sure how it would work with high mountains, waterfalls, tall trees, etc.

I have some important question, since currently I'm a bit confused.
Did some of you complete whole Sanctuary campaign?

If yes, then, does the Irina is going to change into MIGHT HERO, or she will stay as Magic? What about her "dress" ?

I don't think it is spoiler, since currently I'm in first mission, and EVERYone talk to her as if she was MIGHT hero.

I don't have idea what is going on. Is it a bug?

If answer is "no".

Does it mean I will have to restart the mission and set her "might" affinity?

always works like a charm

do it text based i say, screw 2D or 3D

player> <MainHero> move to gold pile/

game> *horse hooves on paved road*
game> you pick up 100 gold

player> next turn please

game> blue player turn
...

@Gweret

might or magic doesn't change anything, you can change it at the start of campaign but you can complete it as either.

then you can play it again with might hero anyway so don't worry

So I have finished Sanctuary and Stronghold campaign, I only got Irina and Sandor as dynasty heroes. I didn't get Acamas or the girl, uh Katsue? or something xD on Sanctuary. Do we only get the main hero when finishing a campaign? Also very bad that there were no cinematics when finishing Stronghold campaign

Well, it's the truth, isn't it? Anyway, personally I like 3D better. Not for just the map but town screens too. I was just throwing an idea in, that is all.

You need more training in the art of sarcasm, young one.
I'm curious what will happen if someone decides to develop a 2D sequel of an old game which has already had its 3D experiments - like Heroes. I for one am buying a well-made 2D over an ugly 3D any day but some kids will probably start crying hysterically just because one "D" is missing before even seeing the graphics. Human nature, such a mystery....

Yeah, great idea!  Unfortunately, if Ubihole gets their way with that game too, we would see lots of :
player> Griffins dive attack centaurs
game> Griffins do 0 damage, centaurs HP left -7785432hp.

or :
player> <MainHero> move to dynasty weapon
game> Dynasty weapon get! (but not unlocked...)

or even :
player> Shark Guards attack Lacerators
game> Shark Guards get lucky strike... oh wait... no they don't... er... I don't know!  Anyway,  they do 6 damage, Lacerators HP left -1222311276645hp.

Totally agree.  One of the most beautiful game I've played was Baten Kaitos for the GameCube.  It was a Final Fantasy type game but with extremely beautiful hand drawn 2D environments.  The game was worth it just for the visuals alone (the game was fun too!)

What people in the game industry forgot is that sometimes 2D is better than 3D.  For example: All platformers are better in 2D.  You always need precise controls and timings in platformers that 3D can't provide.  Mega Man can never be done properly in 3D. They tried with Legends but it wasn't the same game at all.

I think Heroes of Might and Magic is really better in 2D.  3D doesn't add anything in this game.  I find Homm II and III as beautiful as V and VI, which is probably the main draw for 3D.  And I need my strategy games to be quick, not fumble-around-with-the-camera-controls-to-see-if-there's-something-hidden-behind-that-rock type. Everything must be in sight, ready to be used.  Heroes 6 almost got rid of the camera by making it semi-fix.  But then... why 3D if the game isn't made to move the camera around?

When you very first start the campaign you can choose if you want to be might or magic, even if you are using a preset hero like Irinia. I also made this mistake, you have to delete the hero's progress completely to change back. If you don't want to, however, you don't have to, there are both might and magic dynasty weapons for each campaign.

I have played little 3D platformers, but they did very well with rayman hoodlum havoc.

Don't get me wrong, I like 3d platformers. Banjo-Kazooie, for example, is still one of my favorite games since 3D became the norm in video games.  But still, I prefer by far 2d platform games especially for their precise controls.

Usually, if you mess up in a 2D platform game, it's entirely your fault, not because of some weird camera angle or the camera moved at the last second, messing your jump entirely.

Camera control is my least favorite part of any 3D platformer, and it's the most frustrating aspect of every Zelda game I've played since Ocarina of Time.

That said, I really enjoy 2D platformers that are rendered in 3D.  Give us the precise controls and fixed camera angle that allow us to navigate the world accurately, but also give us the art style and graphic rendering that matches our modern expectations.

When you fix the camera, it's also a lot easier to design, because you don't have to make everything look pretty from all angles.  Trees, for instance.  If the tree is only ever going to be seen from the front, you don't need to design its back.
