Imo, when it comes to artists covering Beatles songs, the question isn't whehther they can make the song "their own" - they can't -, but instead it is whether they do the original justice.
Even a stand-out cover like Jeff Beck's version of A Day in the Life only serves to show their compositional genius and George Martin's ability to encourage and inspire arrangements that would "nail" a song.
On second thought, Hendrix banged out a briliant Sgt. Pepper, but that's more like a short tribute than a real cover.
