Why, for the love of Ancients, are you trying to modify original graphics and do it the very hard way?
Why wouldn't you do it like Heroes 3 HDmod did it? Please answer

Why do you consider this to be the hard way?
Also I don't really consider it modifying original graphics. All Town screens has been extended using only original graphics. The adventure map simply shows a larger part.
The main menu, true they asked for a new menu to match the HD format.
Battle screens I haven't yet seen, but I believe they found a way to extend it also using original graphics..

Obviously the Equilibris team decided to extend the screen as they made it possible rather than just making a pop up window like H3 HD. I don't know the reason though. But perhaps Dalai already answered on CH.. don't recall..
EDIT:
Interesting stuff found here.. It appears someone found a way to move the buttons, so the suggested changes regarding townscreen will be looked into...

but regarding the Town Screen...

The upgraded castle, but zoomed in.
But you could also consider the creatures portraits being listed there on a line and spells below them. Moving them from their original position, the space created would be used to increase the size of the castle | mini maps, the list of owned castles.

My second thought would be to list here a spells available in the town, from the best to the worst.
Heck, and don't hate me, you can even put here a nice Castle animation day/night clickable. :tongue: this is still to be tested if possible

These are just quick drafts for display, but what do you think?
For me #1 does fill out the space quite well, although I don't find it very useful. But still it adds a bit of atmosphere imo.
#2 Even if the scroll bar was moved with the towns, the switched portraits/town mini maps doesn't work for me.
#3 To me it still leaves too much blank space.
#4 List of spells does somewhat fills out the space (here I also used the unused images, so cut away 6 images and we'll still have some blank space.. Not sure if it would look better if the images were cut out in circles, to avoid the massive chunk of blue.. I could try adding the creature portraits - that would most likely fill out the remaining space..
#5 Logo is well, just a bit plain and unimaginative.
#6 Now this works surprisingly well I think. One could add expansion creatures as well or iconic hero portraits like Crag Hack..
#7 Short cut buttons might be a nice addition - perhaps the only really useful one, but I think they should be added with either of the above. I think that would work better..
Others: To some degree it is possible to add animations like weather effects (or day/night), but wheter it's possible to make them changeable is still unclear.

I'd like to see a different Tavern in every town with both Hero Classes in the foreground and the Aligned-Heroes in the background.(maybe a random bar rumor underneath if possible?)

The biggest problem with this is only one tavern layer image is belonged to all the towns (and even the adventure map taverns) so you just can't place the main hero types to the foreground in every towns. The background image could be easily replaced though, and I think the positions of the icons and portraits also could be changed. Probably. I can't test it now...

Positions of layers can be changed. OldGreyWolf proved this already.
As for rumors, individual tavern image and changing the layer setup, those would require a change of files, that only Equilibris has managed. I don't known if their current team is capable of that or has the time to do so.
As for adding a Tavern image I sense you're looking for a more H3 look/setup..? I think we could add an image on top and hero recruitment wheel below. I don't see how you vision the foreground/background hero portrait to be displayed. Can you make a draft of it?

I don't really have a vision for how this would look in H4. It's just that the other suggestions for the empty screen-space are not very appealing or useful. Sorry to be negative, I really appreciate what you're doing here and keep checking back with interest.
I like the current H4 Tavern Recruitment-Wheel the way it is but it would be interesting to see how it could be changed.
Showing Shortcut Buttons would be my second choice followed by Spells, with level of the spell displayed.(indicated by spell-icon border as usual)

Hey, there's no harm in saying none of the suggestions nailed it. We're still brainstorming and developing ideas
Ok, so to be sure, are you suggesting the main heroes are moved from the tavern skill wheel to the empty space when opening the tavern? (Is this what you meant by foreground/background?). If so, what would you display while the tavern window isn't open?
I think we could come up with ideas for a change of the recruitment wheel, but wheter Equi team will add it, I don't know.
A few ideas are posted at CH. I will post images of them, once I've had time to look into the nsuggestions.
And hopefully others will share their thoughts and ideas..

About the Foreground/Background thing. All I meant was the 2 specific town hero classes would be prominently seen(foreground) and alligned-hereos in background(not as visible). And these would just be a generic image(from the internet or fanart) that would be as close as possible to meeting the above hero-class conditions and add some atmosphere to H4's SUPER-GENERIC town screen.
And this would always be visible, nothing to do with opening the actual tavern. Just a different Town Tavern image for each town-type in that empty space. Which I thought would be easier to do then some of the other suggestions, although it's equally as useless.
Hmmm... now that I think of it, you have to first BUILD the tavern so this idea of 'always visible' Tavern Picture doesn't work. I guess the heroes could be in the Town Hall... but now I'm stretching things.

okay, now I understand (the fact that it doesn't involve the actual tavern screen, solves the issues mentioned by Radmutant).
But I don't know if it's much easier, as this would still require 6 different images, linked to each faction, whereas of now they all share the same one (this issue would of course also be the case with several of the other suggestions).
I extended your idea and thought what if someone could do the graphics and add personas matching the buttons, like a merchant for marketplace, a prison guard for prison etc, then we could link those, but I just checked and Thieves Guild and Kingdom Overview can't be viewed/accessed from the Town Screen and you can already click the Tavern, Prison and Caravan on the Town Screen. There's not much saved between having to move your cursor at the bottom of the screen or just a little higher. Marketplace is the only object which isn't featured on the Town Screen, but that is found under the scroll and can also be accessed from the Adventure Map, it even has the neat shortcut button of 'M' (sorry Dimoon), so I can't really see the purpose of those extra shortcut buttons - they provide very little shortcuts imo. In short, I discarded the idea again.
But here you go:
It adds a nice atmosphere I think, but it would either require atleast 2 images or custom made ones, that matches the large width of the area.

Can you replace the first one with 1 single(stretched if needed) image of the Barbarian tavern. Thanks Karmakeld.
Just want to see how it looks.
Edit: the more I look at the second image the harder I imagine it will be to implement. One standard tavern image for every town is more realistic but boring so in that case I keep coming back to "Equilibris V3.6" and just move on... I'd never get tired of looking at that "v3.6" part!

Thanks, it was just a sudden idea, but I find a certain calmness about the 2nd image, it just looks natural to me.
I can try, but I very much doubt stretching an image will turn out good, which is why I suggested new ones to be made specifically for those proportions.
I haven't seen Equi v.3.6, could you post some screenshots of the changes?

Ah I misunderstood it, thinking you meant that v.3.6 (image) part.. my bad...
Edit: So based on feedback from both HC and CH it seems we now have a favorite.
With no lesss than 3 votes against less, this is the one I will pursue. Just gotta get a hang of Max to verify we can add this one.

Last I heard there were some issues implementing the new images. You can follow the.progress on the russian forum, I believe that the most up to date info is posted there

Saw on CH that the devs have been silent for years now. It's such a shame they didn't release a alpha/beta version for people to play around with and instead tried to get it perfect only to possibly never finish it at all.
Judging by the start of the thread (I know the stuff later in the thread were just mockups) they had the game working just fine in 1080p HD, it was just that certain screens back backgrounds that didn't fit. They've even already put in some workarounds to fill some gaps. Either way I'm sure plenty of us would tolerate little graphical glitches like that if it meant we could play the game in HD. Better than nothing! Does anyone have a way to message the devs and ask them just to release what they got done for the community?
As someone who's a perfectionist and behind in so many projects because I'm determined to release them in a perfect state I understand the difficulty in doing that haha. However sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and accept that if you can let years go by without touching a project then perhaps it's best to let it go and just release it. Because everyone will know it's not finished you won't have to worry about noobs saying "your work sucks bro it's all glitchy blah blah" lol.
Source files on github would be even better, as maybe someone else might take it up.
