V-Lords just can't die! if you wait the first round and you play agaist slow moving creatures ... you can hit them after he moves and retreat the second round ... and so on..
Second after vampires are Medusa Queens ... ranged unit and petrifies in close combat. Ogre Magi aren't bad...and that's about it...

thats one of the many reasons that conflux IS THE BEST TOWN....
is that they are immune to any kind of death spell, (except sprites and phoenix) and the liches death cloud, and the vamps bloodsucking ability... the list goes on. and theyre just plain strong.
how can you say that anything besides v lords are the best???!!!
they are simply so much better because of their special.
so what if ogre magi are statistically strongest... they are slow, and v lords kick their ass....
im sorry, but anyone who thinks v lords ARENT the best L4 is simply WRONG... no ifs, whats, buts about it.
you can barely call this a matter of opinion bcuz v lords are just sooo much better.
energy elementals, tho immune to the v lord's special, still lose to them because the vamps have no retal, yet another awesome special ability...
therefore the vampire lord has not one, but two of the best special abilities in the game...
you cant argue with a creature that good...

I still prefer the Crusaders and their double strike Shwing/Shwing...Ha-Ha !!! Sure maybe Vapire Lords are better some times but also Crusaders may kill them faster than they can suck some blood...He-He !!!

Vampire Lords are far and away the best. They have good HP and damage, no enemy retaliation (almost as good as the resurrect special), and, of course, blood drain or whatever it's called, which makes a stack above 8-10 virtually unstoppable without a lot of shooters and/or spells.
Besides that, one could make a good argument for Crusader or Ogre Mage. I would say Ogre Mage, on the basis of its colossal 60 health and the Bloodlust special which can turn other troops into killing machines.
Pegasus is overlooked, but its low cost and production of 5 make it very useful as a skirmisher.

Vampire Lords are good, but the rest of the necrpolis' creatures bring this good creature down.
Arch Magi place a close second...

As someone who is partial to the Castle, the Vampire Lord still gets the honors for best 4th level. Not enough can be said for how good it is. Everything else is left scrambling for 3rd place after my Crusaders take the silver.

To me it depends, If you have 100 crusaders vs. 100 Vamp Lords. Crusaders would win. lower amount of each creature Vampire Lords win. G.Baskilisks are also useful with their stoning ability.

Actually Darkside, the more there are the bigger the V-Lord's advantage. 50 on 50, an average fight the V-Lords lose none! In fact, with equal numbers of Crusaders and V-Lords, at the end of the battle with no morale or luck effects the V-Lords will all still live (no, that's not right, they just won't be completely dead  ).

I would say orge magi because it has the hightest HP or crusaders because it has the highest attack point.

Best to Worst
1. Vampire Lords - They fly, have no retalion, speed of nine, not bad hitpoints and absolutely nice Life sucking special
2. Crusaders - Good Solid Unit, not bad hitpoints, their two strikes are very nice when there is no retaliation.
3. Arch Magi - Good Shooters, No melee penalty, make spells cost less.
4. Medusa Queens - Alright Shoots, no Melee penatly, there stoning is nice, they are low on shots though.
5. Demons - Good Solid Unit, not bad hitpoints, If used Pit Lords correctly you should have lots of these guys
6. Orge Magi - These Guys are tought, Very good hitpoints, good damage, specialty is good on ABs, too bad these guys are slow.
7. Greater Balisks - Average Hitpoints, average speed, there stoning specialty is good when it works
8. Energy Elementals - They Fly, are fast, immune to blind and berserk
9. Pegasi - They fly, magic damper is good, very fast, die too easily

Some of you guys keep placing Arch Magi really low. I have to say arch magi is just as good as V-Lord. It makes heroes spells cost less, No melee penatly, good stats, and no penalty for shooting through walls. What, i ask you, is wrong with this lvl 4 creature??

V-lords all the way. Y'know, sometimes, when I need a pick-me-up after losing a major game, I play 80% difficulty and run around with nothing but v-lords.
