No legal affection left.............
I read the Sunday Mail just today and I found something disturbing. Apparently a 16-year-old male and his 14-year-old girlfriend was suspended from school for 5 days after refusing to go to a meeting after they were seen holding hands and having a goodbye kiss at the end of recess. The Principal had previously stated in a school assembly that holding hands and kissing was considered unappropriate at his school. This reminded me of an assembly held at my school earlier this year about a similar plan, but to no avail.
Is showing affection for your schoolyard love going too far? If anyone has gone too far, it is the school principals. Surely, there is nothing immoral about teenage children holding hands and kissing in the schoolyard, and with the social values we have today, the principals who outlaw schoolyard kissing are the real criminals.
What are your thoughts on this?

Getting suspended from school (which I was always happy about...any vacation is a good vacation) for smooching is ridiculous, however, the kids refused to go to some meeting, where they might have gotten the old stern talking to. Probably the suspension was actually for the refusal.

Sounds like the principal wasn't liked by girls when he was a pupil 
Unless they were smooching deep-style in front of everybody, I don't see a problem with that.

How about leaving the "problem" of teenagers kissing and holding hands, until every man woman and child in america can get food, healthcare, and a good life?
Sometimes u just gotta prioritize and deal with the most important issues first

I think if my kids were only holding hands and giving good bye kisses, I'd be a very happy parent...
(the things I've heard and seen in highschools are scary!)

Agreed with Jebus.
In today's world, there is so much display of hatred that you have to wonder why we would penalize kids that are doing just the opposite.
I think it's nice to see 2 young kids in love over their heads. I know I was one.
I don't think a goodbye kiss is too much and certainly holding hands is not an issue.
Anyways, this did not happen in the States, it happened in Australia, no?

Maybe when your older you will see how kids making out at school is ok on some levels but not supposed to happen so its grounds for discipline.
If it really is just something simple, not making out all over the place and groping ewachother, ect, then it was a 50/50 call byu the principle, who was A just repremanding them for something and B just telling the school its not ok. +

Well, as one of the few high schoolers at this forum, i see and do stuff like this all the time. Its not abnormal to see a couple at my high school holding hands, or showing some other form of pilubc affection

UPDATE!
Apparently the situations has got worse, and the Principal declared that the two kids will get another suspension if a repeat offence occurs. Apparently a boy and a girl at the same school got suspended for just hugging each other after school.
This is getting too out of control.

let's be clear that we were talking about light public displays of affection (hugs, kiss goodbye, holding hands..)
..I'd be the first to have a problem if ever I found out my kids were sucking face with hands up shirts and down pants... (and some of the things that i've heard happends on the buses)
but we were only talking about holding hands and a kiss goodbye.

It's disappointing that adults who didn't get enough affection (can almost bet my money on it) are taking it out on children.

As another HC high schooler, I must say that I see stuff like that in my school on a daily basis as well, and it doesn't seem to be having a bad influence on me yet.

Well only reading the first post on here I will say what i think.
I think it is the princibles job to look out for his children at his school.
Face it, kids these days know about all of that topic & they dont understand about love etc.
It starts out holding hands & a little kiss but it may be more.
Also it can turn out more.
Kids dont know better about that & soon it will turn into another teenage parent wasteland.
Cant even support thierselves or even know who they are.
