Spells you like (so far)
I find some little spells very useful.
Song of Peace: I especially like to cast this on enemy shooter units. They most certainly will move forward, allowing your melee units to take them out easily.
Create Illusions: Creating units out of thin air is just good. It works like a cheap summoning spell. In one game I had only 1 crusader in my army and I managed to have a stack of 14 crusaders by casting this spell repeatly. The best thing is the illusion units last until the end of the combat.
What are some of the spells you like so far?

I've only really played the Necropolis thus far, so I have to mention the Plague spell. With a powerful Necromancer you can hit each stack for 50-75+ every round....nice.

Song Of Peace: Yes, totally agree, a great spell. Also good when you're up against say 100 champions and you just need to give your ranged units a chance to hurt them before they all come charging in!
Create Illusion: Don't forget you can clone ENEMY units as well! I like to do that when the enemy has a few of a fairly powerful unit. You create one per round (or if your caster is really good you create more), and you can win the battle without having to use any of your own units
Wasp Swarm: Just like song of peace, only the enemy doesn't move. I prefer to use this in most cases just because you don't have to worry about the enemy getting in the way of another enemy (blocking your shooters) or anything.
I'd add more, but I haven't gotten to really dig into spells enough yet. I haven't even finished one map!

Prayer is nice (as long as you aren't fighting other life troops).
Defender is nice too, a nice boost in defense for all troops.
So far, spells seem far less powerful, which I like, but I've just scratched the surface really in terms of the spell books. I DO wish, however, that potions were not listed with your spells!

Quicksand
Quicksand Rules with a shooter army.
"Every 2 feet takes one full round to move trough."
It takes some practice to lay out. But together with all the obstackles already on the field it just makes walkers dead meat!
I had seen battles against nagas as exsample, where shooters with 12 shoots (and 24 was cloose) runs out of ammo before the walkers get through!

Yeah, song of peace is invaluable to life magic.
Also enjoy using the heavenly shield/martyr/regeneration combo, allowing for instance low level stacks running around dealing damage without having to worry about decimating their numbers.

I have just started the first campaign, and I'd have to say one of the better spells offered in the life magic strain is regeneration. First, at a higher level it can heal up to 100+ points of damage a turn. Second, it leaves your caster free to cast other spells on subsequent rounds.
I usually cast it on either one of my heroes or on my Angels. It does not bring units back from the dead, so it is best used on creatures that have quite a few hit points to start with.
Also, any spells that affect the entire group (Defender, Mass Bless, Fervor (Mass +Morale))...

I've changed my mind about the Preserve or Nature magic spells...
Summoning has turned out to be quite nice and powerful.
The Wasp Swarm is especially nice in a seige against ranged or flyers...
and quicksand is SWEET. Congrats 3DO on turning a completly lame spell into something useful.

what about spell combos?
I like stoneskin, defender, holy shield (is that the name? The low-level life that's +25% defense?), and giant strength
Of course, if I have time to cast all those spells I should have the enemy pretty well crushed anyway, but oh well... for my angels, I always would first giant strength them, because the +25% hp is like having extra defense, and the +25% damage is sweet. Next round, I'd do defender, and then, if there's nothing else needing to be cast, I'd give them stoneskin. So all in all, my angels became extremely brutal.
Can't wait to learn some 4th and 5th level spells. Dragon strength looks NICE...

Played only with order yet, but have a spell that can turn the odds(especially in a siege).I sieged a castleand lost. Then I tryed to siege it again and won. Becouse of this precious spell: Forgetfulness.
BTW; Is there any way to make formations in a castle? I hate it When my shooter is on ground and my melee hero is on a tower.

Yes, Prayer, Celestial armor and Mass ***** magic ward are also great spells.
Life magic seems very powerful right now... but I haven't really delved into the other schools yet... so I had better kept my mouth shut... going to play some more now...
Play well

There are much more powerfull summon spells.
If you have both death and nature magic you become a demonologist. The demonologist has available new spells that are neither nature nor death and you cannot learn them in any mage tower. I.e For basic death and basic nature you have summon imps - very powerful because you can summon 20 sprites but for such cost summon 90 Imps. Advanced death and advanced nature gives you summon hellhounds - that is a tank - three headed attack - arround 30 hellhounds per spell.
then expert death and expert nature summons the Ice demons - brrr - they freeze the opponents to the death and cost you almost nothing - I could go on but then you will always choose nature and death combination.

Summon Water Elemental is very useful. Those Water Elementals have Quicksand and Ice Bolt among other spells in their spell books. Best Elementals propably.

Hand of Death
I have been playing the Necromacer campaign (on map 4 now). Besides those Summon Imps & Summon Ice Demon spells, Hand of Death is another great spell! Nothing is better than killing 7 units (any unit except black dragon) with just 12 spell points. I have killed 7 devils/ghosts dragons with that spell.
250 hitpoints times 7 equals 1750 points in damage!

Off topic, in reply to Krishhh
Quote: BTW; Is there any way to make formations in a castle? I hate it When my shooter is on ground and my melee hero is on a tower.
That sound's like something new to the thread "The most anoying thing in a game is when"..
ANyway's, all you gotta do is change the order of the creature's in the garrison.. Right? Should be the same concept as other HOMM's with order of creature stack's.
Another tip (HOMM3) with order of creature's in garrison..
Creature stack's with the same speed go in turn determined by order in your/opponent's garrison.
Attacker top first, to defender bottom last.
(First garrison slot, to last)
