Map Page Statistics updates!
Per the request of the_teacher. Vesuvius has requested that I take the job of calculating the map played statistics and keep the maps page up to date.
I am gonna do my research and hopefully have the first update done soon. So stay tuned

here is my e-mail, for those really interested
"hey Ves,
i think it would be nice to have added in the maps section , a global statistic of how many times a map has been played , and updated as often as could be possible
this way ,some "disputes" between mapmakers will be avoided, and they will know better which are the demands of a new or veteran player, what it pleases him, so that they can focus on those kind of things that bring a PLAYABLE variety.
i'm bringing here 2 reasons as a support for my statement :
1rst it's a pity to have your map never played or very rarely, so much wasted time and work, efforts spent in vain could make inspiration to dissapear makes him wonder if it's worthy to try again, having as a immediat effect the lack of maps. They MUST know which is considered good or bad without doubt. Of course , it's a bit subjective , but all things related to tastes are.
2nd the long disputes will be more decaied ,and HC spared from some nonsenses.
the "ratemaps" should be kept , but this is more subjective than statistics.
very first days when you'll add this extra info, if youll want to, some discussions will take place ,but won't last too long ,and soon after that will help a lot

Maps Page
I was wishing for changes in the map page to. I have two ideas. First since I was out of heroes a long time when I went to the map page I wanted to know maps people are currently playing. I think the problem with the popularity rating is that it does not take into account the time the map was available for play. ie. older maps always seem to have higher popularity than new maps.
The way I see to correct this is divide the popularity of the map by the time it was available for play. To help new players to figure out what the best map to learn you could futher improve on this by giving more weight to maps played recently than maps that were played a long time ago.
The second idea that I have is to post the transrer times of the maps relative to each other. I have a 56k modem and had huge transfer times with your psudo random maps. I attributed this to the number of bombs on the map. Looking at newer maps such as imperial prison I am scared to try because of the vast number of bombs on the map.

uh i dont think there has been any "pseudo-random" (stupid sounding name, isnt it?) maps made lately. a lot of bombs are there to be triggered later, not at the beginning of game. and even then, unless there is like 60 bombs at beginning that go off, it wont affect transfer times. AND EVEN THEN, it is only for the very first transfer. after that it doesnt affect transfers at all.
and I like the ratio of # of times played to time idea, but i think more important would be the number of times a map has been played in the last month. This will show which maps are "hot"

Looking at newer maps as lost in space makes me scared because i see the name of the map maker and the vastness of the map

Anyone who uses the " Map is to big to play" excuse is just afraid they cant compete on that map.
Not mentioning any names or bashing anyone here, unless you are one of them people who hide behind the excuse I mentioned.

dont be frightened paperhero...bombs are there for your pleasure, wont go off if hero steps on one, are not landmines :-p
Ratings...
Dont beleive in comparison. Popularity is what interest us.. maybe life will be easier for jinx if he handled only that?
