Vadskye walks into the tavern with MM.

Vadskye: "Who the heck is that drunk?!"

Vadskye(?): "Greet gloop bong."

Vadskye conducts a mind read, and finds... nothing.  The man's mind is blank.

RSF: "Vadskye-we thought he was you!"

Vadskye: "Well, he does look similar, I guess.  But did he do any magic?"

Dingo: "Well, no..."

Vadskye: "Well, why did you think he was me?  You know I don't drink excessively, usually not at all."

RSF: "I don't know.  We just... did."

Vadskye: "That's odd.  Maybe some spell?  Anyway, kick him out and let's party!  I'll figure it out later."

*Walking into the nearly empty tavern, Mighty Mage takes a quick look around at the party goers and regular drinkers.*

Mighty Mage:  Barkeep, I'll just have a cider if you please.

Barkeep:  Coming up.  You know, I don't believe I've seen you around before.  You new in town?

Mighty Mage:  Yes, actually.  I'm here on business.

Barkeep:  Hmmmm, you a magic user?  You got some pretty decrotive robes on there.

Mighty Mage:  I dabble in magic, yes.

Barkeep:  Don't suppose you know what this is than.  A rather shady looking fellow came in here...about two days ago I believe.  Kept sayin somthing about a crystal this and burnin that.  I could barely make out his damned mumbling.

Mighty Mage:  Well let me have a look at that.  Hmmm, it seems to be a magic scroll of some sort.  Real old.  Looks like some Arcane magic.  He just left it here?

Barkeep:  He was in such a hurry after he finished his drink that he dropped a whole bunch of stuff.  Must not of realized he left that behind.

Mighty Mage:  Well, not much to do with it for now I guess.  My advice is to just hang on to it for now.  Keep it in a safe place...in case it's dangerous.  You never know.

Barkeep:  I suppose.  Say, you think that rouge magic fellow knows what it is?

Mighty Mage:  I doubt it.  If I can't read the symbols than I doubt many others could either.  That would take some reasearch to figure out.

Barkeep:  Alright then.  Oh, your cider.  Almost forgot.

Mighty Mage:  Thanks.  How much?

Barkeep:  Ahhhh, you don't look like you have much on you.  I'll put a tab together for you.

Mighty Mage: Thank-you.

Vadskye had heard the entire conversation.  (accident!  No, really!  Honest! ) When MM was gone, Vadskye asked if he could see the parchment.  The barkeep decided there wasn't harm in it, so he let Vadskye borrow it on the promise that he would return it.  As he was looking over the parchment, Vadskye suddenly recognized the obscure symbols.  Running to MM, he explained that they were an ancient tongue spoken by the Styrics, an ancient race that dabbled extensively in magic.  When Vadskye explained it to MM, though, he ran into some difficulties.

Vadskye: "See?  It's the Styric charm for petrifying - turning people into stone!"

MM: "Who are the Styrics?"

Vadskye: "o_O You haven't heard of them?"

MM: "No..."

Vadskye: "Oh yeah, I was the one one to make the discovery.  Guess I forgot to get that paper written... Sorry."

MM: "O_o You discovered an ancient race and FORGOT to tell people about it?!

Vadskye: "Ummm... Well... Yeah..."

MM: *rants on and on about Vadskye being forgetfull*

Vadskye: "Okay, okay, sorry, I'll do it as soon as the party's over, now what are we gonna do with the scroll?"

Vadskye was just putting the scroll back when he heard Romana scream "Anyone out there?".  Vadskye quickly used a location tracking spell and identified her.  Utilizing another useful spell, Vadskye projected his voice to reach her.

Vadskye: "We're over here!"
*big banner above the tavern saying "here here here"*
Romana: "But I wanna go shopping!"

Vadskye: "There's a shopping mall over here, too!"
*big banner changes to "Shop here shop here"*
Romana: "Okay, I'm coming!"

Really now, how do you go about discovering somthing that monumental and just pass it off as just another one of life's adventures?  I admit, in all my years of studing magic, I may have forgot to mention a few spells I discovered...but this is a race, AN ACIENT RACE...

BIC: Vadskye: "Oh, nothing really. You were just wondering when food other than beer was coming.  Here it is!:

MM: "Yum!" (I wonder why I was thinking of food?  Doesn't matter.  I'm hungry!)

Vadskye: *assumes the voice of an TV salesman* "Over here we have the delicacy of Pears, my latest invention.  Next are Apples, a rare blend of tanginess and sweetness that will have you drooling.  Over here are... (etc, etc.)"

Eventually Vadskye finishes his speech, but by then half the food is gone.  Vadskye sighs, but then digs in.  Everyone knows that pears just grow in trees, and he didn't make them.  It was just a joke.

Deimos: "Hey, Vadskye, what are the ingredients in pears?  I want to make my own!"

Vadskye spluttered, then regained his composure.  "Deimos, that was a joke.  Pears just grow in the ground."

Deimos: "Oh.  Okay.  So what are the ingredients for ground?"

Vadskye stares for a moment, and then Deimos laughs.  He was joking.
After some small talk, Vadskye continues digging in to his food and Deimos moved away.
This is good food

The longest partier to remain silence seems to be Woock. Vadskye keeps glancing at him every once in a while to check if he is about to scare him to death again or no, but there seems to be no risk of that happening. Upon further inspection it is clear that Woock is way too busy eating the spam that he keeps summoning, making the plates look like magic artifacts. Dingo looks at Woock and thinks, wow, Everfull Plates of Spam... Wow...

Mighty Mage:  Hey Vadskye, check that out.

Vadskye:  What.

Mighty Mage:  Over there.  The window.  You see that?

Vadskye:  Yeah, you know him?

Mighty Mage:  No, that's what has me worried.  I don't think anyone knows him.

Vadskye:  (with a mouthful of food) Hey, you think...what if that's the guy the bartender was yapping about.

Mighty Mage: I was thinking the very thing.  Well, he does't seem to be doing anything.  Just sitting there.

Vadskye:  Better have your weapon ready anyway.  I don't trust shady characters.

Mighty Mage:  Well, before we go painting the groud with fresh blood, I'd like to see my old friend first.  You mentioned he was alive.

Vadskye:  Yep, alive and spamming.  He's over there.

Mighty Mage:  My gods, what happened to him.  He looks twice as old as when I last saw him.

Vadskye:  Yeah, death kinda does that to a guy.

Mighty Mage:  So he really was dead.  Unbelievable.  Well, I'll be right back.

*Mighty Mage gets up from his meal and walks over to Woock.*

Mighty Mage:  Woock?

Woock:  Yeah?

*Woock turns around*

Woock:  I thought I smelled your stale magic.  What took you so long?  I figured you'd ride right over here.

Mighty Mage:  Well I did...or at least tried.  A bunch of thieves jumped me.  Took most of my money, my horse, and my orb of mana.  That means it'll take longer for me to get my strength back.

Woock:  All the better.  Gives you less chance to burn the place down.  Besides, what're you complinin about.  I was dead.

Mighty Mage:  Hey, that only happened once.  I didn't know the whole tavern whould go down.

Woock:  It was a level five Firaga spell.  You say you didn't know?

Mighty Mage:  Well all the same, It's good to see you.

Woock:  Aye, the same to ya.

*Mighty Mage sits down and the two begin catching up.  All the while, our shady character begins to make his move...*

That shadowy guy seemed sinister to Vadskye.  When MM went away, Vadskye went outside, under the excuse of needing to go get a scroll.  Once safely out of sight, Vadskye crept around the house.  There was the masked man, slowly pulling out a dagger.  Judging from the weight balance, it was a throwing dagger.  A quick move-he had whipped it out and was about to throw it.  Vadskye lept, yelling.  It wasn't ego or anything, though, that made him yell.  He needed that moment of surprise.  He got it.  The shadowy figure even flinched, and Vadskye had at least a dozen places to put his dagger.  But first, he wanted answers.  Vadskye slammed the man to the ground, turned him over, and ripped off the mask.  It was...

Vadskye saw the shadowy man was just a common criminal, probably hired by one organization or another that owed MM something.  No matter.  Vadskye pulled his dagger out and wiped it on the grass nearby.  He was about to go when he realized that the other guests probably wouldn't like corpses nearby, so he dragged it off to the side a ways.  Then he saw a huge hairy monster approaching the tavern.  Muttering darkly to himself, he rushed to stop the monster, but he was to far away.  The monster steeped inside.   Vadskye rushed in with sword drawn...and found no big hairy monster.  The only new addition was Romana.  Slowly, Vadskye realized what had happened.  He sighed, and asked for a flag.

RSF finished his drink, said his goodbyes, and left the tavern. He headed back for the Order Fort to the east, but halfway there, he turned off into the brush and headed north where he arrived at the river, at which point he followed it all the way to the waterfall. RSF had gone at maximum speed once he was out of sight of the tavern, so it was impossible for anyone to have followed him. About halfway up on of the cliffs, there was a narrow ledge that ran all the way across. It looked good enough to walk across. The ledge was easily accessible from the side of the cliff behind some brush. RSF made his way up to the ledge. His suspicions were correct. There was a cave behind the waterfall. And so he entered...

Deimos stood up.
Deimos: Got to get back to the fort. I'm worried about something.
Silver: What?
Deimos: I'm not sure, but it has something to do with death. I smell death.
Romana: Really? I don't smell anything!
Deimos: You are incompitent. I am leaving.

Deimos ran west. When he arrived at the Chaos Fort, he saw the guard looked drunk.
Deimos: Are you okay?
Guard: Blah.
Deimos: Have you been drinking.
Guard: Lord Shadowcaster, please pass some of that pie. It looks delicious. So, Lord Wolfman, you were telling me, you were ambushed by those fire demons, what happened then?
Deimos: Are you drunk?
Guard: Drink up, Lady Romana, drink up. That wine is from my uncle's stores. Some of it is over 100 years old!
Deimos: Wake up!
Guard: Why, Lord Deimos? What's wrong?
Deimos: You're delerious, that's what's wrong!
Guard: What's delerious? Anyway, drink up, drink up!
Deimos entered the fort. He saw blood and dead guards everywhere. He quickly ran to the library. There, on the table, was a note, held by a dagger. Deimos picked up the note in shaking claws and read: If you wish to stay alive, meet me at the Circle under the light of the red moon.
Deimos: N-no! This can't be!
He continued reading the note. What followed were not words, but runes translated to the Common Speech: Almora Eswaho, zchiv ar mola tor.
Deimos didn't know what this meant, so he ran back to the tavern to speak to Vadskye or MightyMage. On the way, he met an old man in the green robes of the Guild of Time Magic.
Deimos: Old man, can you read this?
Old man: Do you know the tale of the Green Carpet?
Deimos: No. Old man, can you read this?
Old man: All right, what follows is the tale of the Green Carpet. Once upon a time-
Deimos: Goodbye! I don't have the time!
Deimos ran a short distance then thought, "Why was I rude to the man? He was going to entartain me with the story, and I ran away. I must go back." Deimos ran back, but the old man was nowhere in the vicinity.
Deimos: I must find out the tale.
He went to the remaining survivor of the Chaos guards.
Guard: Hi, Lord Deimos.
Deimos: I'm glad you're not delerious any more. Do you know the tale of the Green Carpet?
The guard cluched his chest and died.
Deimos: Huh?
He went to the guard's wife.
Wife: Lord Deimos, what can I do for you?
Deimos: I bring bad news. Your husband is dead. And I have a question. Do you know the tale of the Green Carpet?
The wife cluched her chest and died.
Deimos: What's going on?!

Deimos ran back to the place where he met the old man. He was there again.
Deimos: Will you please tell me the tale of the Green Carpet?
Old man: All right, I will. Once upon a time-
The old man cluched his chest and died.

Then a hoarse, loud voice shouted: Hyron al maximus!

Vadskye rushed in.

Vadskye: "Are you all right?"

Deimos: "How'd you know about those guys?"

Vadskye: "I-"
The 7 shadows burst out of their enclosure.  Chanting in unision, they attacked Deimos with an Elemental Counter.  Vadskye blocked with a shield charm and MM unleashed a Summon Monster II, but the 7 stopped it in mid-summon with a Silence charm.  Vadskye healed MM and Diemos (cast? used? threw? whatever) a Fire Bolt spell.  After blocking with a basic Null Fire spell, the seven broke their unision and paired up, the (presumably) leader hanging back while the others went 2-1 on the Vadskye, MM, and Deimos.  Vadskye decided that a combat of spells alone would go on much longer than he wanted, so immediately following blocking one of their spells, (that always hurts having spells blocked) Vadskye called on his training as a thief, many years ago, and quickly drew his daggers and thrust them in to his opponents.  Deimos and MM had banded together because Deimos had no magical protections.  They were holding their own, but tiring fast.  Vadskye crept behind the dark magi and plunged his daggers into two of them.  During the moment of surprise, Deimos killed one other, and MM smacked the last upside the head.  Deimos, seeing that he wasn't dead, was about to finish him, but Vadskye reminded him they needed information.  After, he said, we'll get him.  Now we get the leader.  The three advanced on the one.  The leader started through the Dark Door, attempting a classic trick that often startled the commoners, but it was useless against mages.  MM countered the spell, Deimos froze him from the waist down so he couldn't get away, and Vadskye plunged his dagger into the man's heart.  Now they turned back to the one living dark mage, who was still unconsious.

Vadskye: "Let's get some answers."
