Nor do I.  It is the symbol of my country, not a sacred object.

Patriotism is about more than worrying about people burning your flag. The pride I feel in being British is not diminished because someone else feels angry at my nation, that's defensive patriotism which is one step from nationalism.

I don't like people burning the flag, I didn't say I was worried about it.

And as for "thought out" since this is an entirely different culture we are usually refferring to that is their choice, your countrymen stooped to renaming food and asking for their dead servicemen returned, so let's not get picky about whom cannot think things through properly shall we?

It is a different culture, and that is their choice.  I just happen to disagree strongly with that choice.

Your countrymen vandalize stadiums and kill people at soccer games, hooligans you know.  That's not exactly thought out either.

Somantics don't make your arguments better young man. And yes, a symbol of your country, they're annoyed at your country, try to understand why that may be rather than dismissing it as some ill thought out gesture. Then try addressing that reason rather that you don't like it. It won't stop them doing it to know you object after all...

I agree it's distasteful, your comments though are ignorant and insulting and as usual off at an angle to make some spurious point. I had no wish to say my countrymen did not do such pointless acts, I was merely saying western culture has it's mirror to the flag burning. I have no wish to have to state my own countries involvement in similar things every time I post, I expect intelligent forum members to know by now that I am aware of these things without me having to say them like a disclaimer with each comment. Take it as given that I understand these things rather than drag conversations into your pointless "you do it too" arguments that divert from the greater point.

A point of fact would be that the English/British do not do such things as a group, do not endorse or allow them as a country, arrest people for doing it and it has absolutely nothing to do with any kind of objection against the other country involved and everything to do with mindless violence. That's not even closely related to flag burning to be frank. We have our equivalents and even our own (in the past) equivalent of freedom fries, they would be a better thought out comparison than your feeble one which more smacks of a backhanded insult.

I thought you had a sence of humor, PH.  Did you not notice the ?  I ment it as a joke not a slap in the face of a serious argument.

You have a stupid form of humour, I presume if I began making jokes about 9/11 and the people who died there you'd find them just as funny then on that basis. Besides, however you meant it, your post was in poor taste, had no relevance and was unclear. Beyond that, had you meant it seriously it is a good example of just how badly you drag things away with your "you do it too" points.

First, I wanna say I have nothing against the USA. But don't give me that crap with what you did for the world, ok?
In the middle ages(1200's to 1600's) my country fought the Ottoman Empire and kept the turkysh forces out of Europe. If it weren't for us and our neighbours, Europe would have been muslim, so America would have been praying to Allah. But I'm not taking credit for what my people have done in the past, no matter how important. Why should you?

Presentation and delivery is the key

Shame on you two! Yes ofcourse you both have very good points that are unarguably the truth! Don't you two think you are both being a bit hard on the boy? I don't know his exact age but he is quite obviously a young man with only HALF of the WHOLE truth! Is that his fault? No it isn't. I expect more from educated adults. Please try to be more constructive of your criticism. I'm not doubting the two of you I'm simply asking you both to present your arguments to him in a more educating fashion. There's no need to ram the truth down his throat you know. He's young and young minds have resiliency especially when someone such as yourselves delivers the facts in a productive and constructive manner. You may not think of yourselves as teachers or professors because you don't have a specified degree of science or a particularly formal-handed education but think of it like this. If a man goes to Afghanistan with only a highschool education and basic knowledge of clean behavior where does he stand? Is he as educated as someone who's knowledge extends to a doctor? No he isn't but regardless he still finds himself in a role of responsible obligation. He has certain facts that the millions of people in that place do not. It's a simple matter of who has the facts. Is it not the first step in community to share the facts? The term 'share' is not synonymous with 'forcibly gagging the recipient' with said truths. Let's exercise a little responsibility of our roles shall we?
