As RSF said, I am eager to finish off this "Age" of the LHW series and not leave the whole thing hanging. I'll start writing slowly this week and hopefully Post something by the time that HC's Got Talent is over.

Hmm . . .

"Attack Iraq" should not be this community's greatest thread. I think that one day "Let's Have War" will surpass "Attack Iraq" as the greatest thread of Heroes Community. This might be the incentive I need to come back and start role playing here again. Attack Iraq is not worth it's weight in carbonized after-dust.

I feel kinda bad leaving this thread to rot in an eternal cliffhanger, but it seems many of the original posters are MIA. If any of the posters in this RP are still around and interested in continuing LHW, post here and let everyone know. I've drafted up a post that would serve to rectify Dean's and Lyon's disappearance by ending the chapter (which I will post here if people show up), but I need to know if anyone will continue the thread if I start chapter 4? If a good number show up, we can kick it off again and allow new posters in, no voluminous reading necessary. If not, however, I'll probably just end the chapter and put LHW to rest for good.

If you are one of the active members remaining and you know how to contact some of the others, please do. I want to see if we can get this amazing thread going again.

EDIT: And, of course, I'll provide a brief overview of the world to get new people started.

EDIT2:Here's a list made by 2Xtreme. I'm gonna use this as a reference point.

RSF - interested
ShadowCaster - on board
Gorman - MIA (last post: March 2007)
Asmodean - MIA (last post: May 2007)
Leo_Lion - MIA (last post: December 2006)
2XtremeToTake - MIA (last post: July 2007)
Deimos - on board
MightyMage - around, I've HCMed him

Inactive People (Characters unheard from in a while)

Vadskye91 - MIA (last post: October 2006)
Lord_Woock - around, I've HCMed him
Lith-Maethor - one time poster (it'd be great if he decided to return, however)
Wolfman - unlikely to return
Romana - one time poster and MIA
Dragon_Slayer - posted once this year, sent him an HCM since he was wanting to get back into this when it died
Dingo - hasn't posted since November, but I'll send him an HCM anyway

I'm also sending HCMs to Consis and SirDunco, though both tend to stick to the Other Side. Hopefully I get some responses back fairly soon.

I doubt I'll be jumping on board unless you guys find some amazing way of convincing me (this is not a dare though). I'll try and get a message to Vadskye though, since I believe I've seen him around on some other message board.

Thanks Woock for contacting Vadskye. Hopefully he'll still be interested.

I don't really know what we could do to convince you to come back except begin posting again and then let you see whether or not the thread's direction still interests you. I do really hope you'll come and post in the thread, though, since you are one of the ones who has been here the longest and contributed a great deal to this thread.

Glad to hear people are responding.

I'll post what I have for the story once I know who all will still be around so that I can write out in some way the characters that won't be returning. I've tried to leave it very open as far as the fates of all the characters go, but of course input as to the end of chapter three is welcomed (and perhaps needed ).

Hey wats up guys? I wanna get involved again so i was wonderin if someone could give me the gist of whats going on right now and who are the main characters, or at least a reference to where i can read about it.

I wanna join up where i left of. The whole family thing didnt really work out, i am sent back to this world, apparantly my time here isnt over and i should go back to help old and new friends.

It will be good to finally get away from God though, man he never shuts up! I think i heard the Adam and Eve story 8 times a week or something

Well, this was your plan before. I don't know if it'll strike up any inspiration within you, but, once this gets started again, I'm gonna post a synopsis of the situation in the land and try to get both new people and oldtimers who haven't been around as much back up to speed.

Alrighty, I think we've had a great response. Here's the initial draft of the post.
Quote:
Edwin surveyed the battlefield.

The war that had started over six years ago with the release of Motherdark was finally over. A conflict had enveloped nations and sundered the land gave rise to an even greater threat in the form of a power unsealable: Dean, the once valiant summoner that had helped seal the Forsaken, and his warped weapon of the gods, the Ice Mace. The Royal Order of Supreme Magi had forged these weapons to counter the powers of the Forsaken Ones long ago, yet now they faced this power as its chosen guardian fell prey to his own power and descended into depravity. Dean was amassing an infernal army of great size and ferocity, a great and terrible threat to all who valued life. Yet, the Magi had been stripped of their own magic by Dean, left powerless in the face of mounting odds. They would have to rely on the descendants of the war wizards in the south, tribes their own ancestors had marked as barbarians and exiled to the plains below, to quell the threat of one of their own. An ironic fate, yet one the commanders of the opposing Order and Chaos armies were willing to bear. These men, Lyon and Mordikai, were to join forces and lead their armies against Dean in a final struggle for the fate of the lands.

At least, this was how it was meant to be. As the armies met to reconcile their differences so they could fight side by side in the coming battle against Dean, both Mordikai and Lyon suddenly disappeared without a trace. This was both a shock and great mystery to the two armies, as their two generals had vanished on the eve of the direst battle either of them had ever known, leaving the faltering armies in a tumultuous balance between camaraderie and hostility. The two armies’ lieutenants, Artemus and Edwin, quickly seized the reigns and held both armies in check, but their superiors’ sudden disappearance spread dissent throughout the ranks and even established a hint of doubt in the back of their own minds as well. Surely Mordikai and Lyon were not abdicators, yet it seemed suspicious that the only command each man left to his officer consisted of two words—unite them—while leaving no hint at where they had gone. The task of defeating Dean had fallen into Artemus and Edwin’s care.

Little did these men know that the army they now faced had suddenly found themselves without a commander as well, with no replacement nearly as competent to lead the legions of demons. Strangely enough, Sendon, the necromancer that had been hunting Dean, vanished as well, gone to whatever great mystery had removed the trio of commanders.

Without Dean, the infernal army had soon found itself imploding violently as the now purposeless throngs began to vie for control. When at last Edwin and Artemus reached the demon encampment, all that rose to greet them was smoke from the scorched earth. It was a gruesome sight indeed. The two generals glanced uncertainly at one another, wondering whether their goal had truly been accomplished for them. An answer soon arrived in the form of battle cries and fevered clashes on the horizon. Judging it wisest to strike the remnants of the demonic horde while they continued to battle amongst themselves, Edwin and Artemus signaled the charge and led their armies headlong into the fray.

Even as the armies of Order and Chaos approached, the embattled demons found it difficult to untangle from their present conflicts and unite to fight off the threat plummeting down the hillside. Only after hundreds had fallen were they able to reconcile their differences and turn on their assailants. Archers from both sides fired volley after volley into the opposite ranks, and the clamor of battle spread further and further from the focal point of first contact. The strategy for Edwin and Artemus was to divide and conquer, while the demons simply battled to endure. What had once been a heart-wrenchingly lopsided battle slowly began to turn in the humans’ favor. Before long, only the most rugged of the demonic ranks remained, most of whom had been candidates for the commander position before their fighting had been interrupted by more fighting. One by one they fell, before only one lone figure remained, unwilling to fight any longer. He said his name was Hans.

Ash and dust cloaked the battleground in a veil of silent homage to the fallen. It stung the rogue general’s eyes, but this was no time to rest. Their goal accomplished, all that remained was to pick up the pieces and restore the land to peace, or at least some such semblance. The armies of Order and Chaos would again be enemies on the morrow, yet conflict would dwindle to uneasy tension as the armies struggled to rebuild. Edwin hoped that, in this time, all the plainspeople would realize that they have more in common than they had realized and reconcile the territorial bickering that had for too long defined this reason. Yet, to do this, they would need strong hands to guide them, hands that had brought them together before. Rebuilding this land was not Edwin’s charge. Where had Lyon and Mordikai gone?

For now, all he could do was hope that those two would soon return and that Dean was gone for good. He could also find solace in a new possibility: that new heroes would arise to help this land whenever it faced peril. Only time would provide the answers he sought, and here would he wait.

EDIT
Feedback is much welcomed. I've already received some great feedback from MM over HCM, so either post here or let me know. Later this week, I will post in the main thread the end of chapter 3 and the start of chapter 4 and we can get the ball rolling. I'll also be HCMing new people who I think would fit well, so hopefully some new blood'll be coming in pretty soon.

Judging by Vadskye's response, it seems unlikely that he'd return to LHW.

As for myself, I don't really think I'm interested in forum-based roleplaying anymore. I much prefer the live version and will soon become a game master for the lucky group that I'll end up assembling. Good luck guys!

That's a shame, but I completely understand. Hope to see you pop in for a cameo once in a while.

Now that LHW has started back up again, I would like to invite any newcomers who want to hop in at this handy junction between chapters to create a character and write themselves into the story however they see fit. For those that don't know, LHW is a straight pararoleplay like most of HC, which, of course, means you simply write from your character's perspective. You are welcome to read through the thread if you want for a detailed backstory, but I'll provide just a brief overview of the situation right now to get everyone up to speed.

There are five main places of interest right now with four distinct civilizations. The first place, where the thread began, is the plains (still unnamed, lol) in the central portion of the continent. The forces of Order, led by Lyon and Artemus, and Chaos, led by Mordikai and Edwin, are located here in two massive forts, and the armies therein have been fighting for as long as anyone can remember. These two armies were forced to combine ranks in order to combat the summoner Dean and his army of hellspawn. After the victory over Dean (see chapter 4's initial post for details), the two factions will likely begin fighting again, but, for now, they have to rebuild.

To the far northeast is the Royal Order of the Supreme Magi. In the past, this order combated a menacing group known as the Forsaken Ones, the harbingers of death. They were able to seal away the Forsaken in four crystals representing the four elements of magic (infused with time magic to keep stable), but the Forsaken appeared again and were destroyed by the still mysterious Master Emerald's piercing light. The four crystal guardians (Lance, Rinaldo, Dean, and Vadskye) were instrumental in destroying the Forsaken. Only one, the necromancer Sendon, remained alive (though stripped of much of his power), as Death could not keep his hold on the powerful magician. Dean would eventually betray the Order, seal their powers in the Ice Mace, and raise an army to threaten the land.

To the east lies the home of the reclusive elves, who have lived in peace and watched the world in turmoil with heads shaking. Unable to comprehend the value of war, this peaceful race instead focuses on using magic to better their lives and seal themselves away from what they deem to be a corrupt world. In the distant past, the elves were the first to master magic, and the Royal Order sprang about from human theft of their secrets. The time mage, Rinaldo, escaped here after he was released from his madness in response to poisonous bubbles that were appearing. As of yet, the problem is resolved, as Rinaldo journeyed west in response to the war and hasn't been seen since.

North of the central plains is the ruin of an ancient civilization just resurfaced by the Forsaken five and a half years ago. Full of mysterious manuscripts documenting the history of the continent, this ruin is constant prey to treasure hunters and hired looters sent by curious scholars. The Master Emerald remains where it has always laid, as the gem is white hot to the touch and immune to all but the strongest of magic. Who knows what mysteries the emerald protects still from prying eyes?

in the snowy peaks, are the necromancers. They have played practically no role in the events of LHW, but have been mentioned as a credible threat several times. Much of who they are and why they keep mainly to themselves is a mystery.

So there you have it. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
