Argh....

It's so easy. Sometimes I wonder what some people consider a friend to be. How good of a friend are you if you say something like:

"Let them remember me. I shouldn't be obligated to remember them. If they're truly my friend then they will remember me when I don't have to."

Philosophy like that turns my head with hypocrasy. If I am to be a good friend then would I not be required, at the very least, to remember who my friends are? Argh... What sort of friend simply says, "Okay, you remember me but I don't have to remember you."

Bah...

As I've mentioned before. Every1 can be considered by me as a friend. To what degree, that's a different story.

(Comes strolling back up the path)

Sorry for that little display, guys.

Now somebody pour me a drink, preferably a strong one.

Okay, I must confess that I have had some of the greatest friendships ever in this community.

First was Private Hudson.  I can say with a good degree of certainty that we have talked one another through some of our most difficult times, that he is one of the most devoted friends I have ever had, and that we will know one another for the remainder of our lives even though we dwell on different continents.  I still wait for the time we can visit in person, but one way or another that will eventually happen.

Second came Romy.  She is like a kid sister to me and she and I as well have talked long into the hours.  She is a wise young woman far beyond her years in human understanding, honesty and experience, and will always be one of my family, as PH will.

Third came The Gootch.  We have had many common experiences, and I will always hold a special place for him in my heart even though he is nearly impossible to reach these days, apparently for all of us word has it. There isn’t much of the truth I can tell you about the Gootch without blowing his online cover, so I will just leave it at that.  So, Gootch, in the spirit of that online cover, if you ever bother to read this post, take your banjo and stuff it. EL KABONG! <CRASH> ---- MLAAAA (Sticks out tongue then runs fast in the other direction).

Then came Wolfman -- who is about the same age as my first lost child would have been.  I need say no more, but will anyway.  He is an incredibly bright star-on-the-rise; honorable, curious, honest, increasingly humble and genuinely invested in the world.  I am proud to know him and interact with him.  We agree not very often, but always want to know what the other thinks about a given subject, which to me is far more important than agreeing.  We have spent a good deal of time together on the net as well and I think the world of this young man.

I will take these four to my grave as true friends.

Those I have learned the most from and hope to continue relationships:  Valeriy (who reminded me of the times in my life when I was as invested in spiritual development as he now is), Nidhgrin (one of the wisest people I have ever come across), and Sir Stiven (who taught me that I am my own Sacred Clown).

Those who have also become people I consider friends – Hexa (Can’t miss him on Logitec – he’s usually sitting there right next to Romy!)  Khayman (coming to my state soon and we hope to meet), Consis (who will soon find that he is one of those to whose defense I will rush just as fiercely as I do my other friends), Svarog (from whom I have learned that great minds can think differently), Khaelo (an honor to know, ‘nuff said) Gormon (always kind) Lith (a truly intriguing individual) redhawk (a bright conservative sparring partner), Lews (another incredibly articulate individual).  I know I am leaving some of you out but you all know who you are (presumably).

I would have listed bort in here somewhere but he tends not to get emotionally invested in people on the net.  So bort, here’s to you as well. You may not consider me a friend, but I consider you one.

Something Tells Me...

Something tells me Bort has a scholarly circle of educated peers. Scholarly and trusting I'd say. He's the kind of person I only wish I could get to know. He's right though, the internet isn't much of a place to solidify a friendship. I'm sure he's quite comfortable with the group of friends he has now. And that's a good thing to have in my opinion. I yearn for the day that I too gather friends that I also consider to be of peer status. Those whom I look up to for advice and experience rarely, if ever, become my friend in real life.

It's real life that brought us here and it's real life that will pull us away. A simple fact really...although I wish it were easier to meet some of the more interesting individuals I have met online.

Coffee shops are usually my preferred location for meeting new acquaintances. I don't expect everyone to drink coffee, as I know not everyone likes the taste or smell, but the company in such settings is commonly known, by me, to be cerebral at the very least.

In a word, I hope to one day sit down and have a cup with the real person behind the name Bort. I'd introduce myself and ask the man for his real name. Then I'd shake his hand with a warm friendly smile. I'm fairly sure this would most likely never happen but it doesn't change how I feel.

I know him to be of sarcastic depth. In real life I value this greatly because it brings a sense of humor to my ever so serious outlook. Online, I usually scoff at such with a mind for understanding and consideration. It is, regardless of my online perspective, invaluable to me in a real world of constant hypocrasy. It truly keeps me sane during some of life's most insane times. A long time from now, one day perhaps

Most of you that post here don't really know me very well. That's my own fault I know because I don't really post a great deal and what I do is usually tournament related. That is partially due to incompatibilities with the position I hold in the community. As a HC Moderator and an Administrator of first MaH and now ToH, it is difficult for me to offer up much of my true personality. In recent months, I have been trying to do that more so. I find myself reading here in "The Other Side" a great deal, but I still don't post a whole lot. Most of the people I have become friends with are visitors to the zone. There it's a bit easier to visit and get to know someone and I have made some truly awesome friends there, many of whom post here or used to post here. The greatest of these would most likely be Rychenroller, Pandora, White_Wiz, AzureMajesty, Khayman, Tewilligar and Kitten. There have been many times over the course of the past year or so, that these people have known more of what was going on with me then my "real" friends. I think this is largely because you can vent to your online friends and although they might have an emotional connection and care about you and what you are telling them, they aren't there which sometimes makes it easier. There are many other "Zone Friends" that I don't think have ever really posted here, and then there are some "HC friends" that don't visit the zone, although there are fewer of those I think. For the most part I am a pretty easy going person. I have lots of opinions but tend not to voice them because I'm somewhat of a nonconfrontationalist. I hope to get the chance to get to know more of you better. Catch ya on the flip side

Sorry for the absence, have been busy as of late. all of you I consider to be friends regardless of our personel indifferances with each other. this thread was my way of getting away from the topics and just saying hello to everyone. my hope is for all of my fellow heroes here to talk to one another as friends, kind words, and a hug/smile go a long way to making someone feel better. We only have but a short time to make a differance before the lord calls us home and I don't want anyone to waste it.
I have been looking in that direction lately, I know that I will be gone soon, and possibly not return. So I wanted to have a place to share with others and smile when you approach Welcome to my garden, we are all friends here.

We are all still here, more or less, and you will be in our thoughts and our prayers. I think a lot of people are just enjoying the summer weather and playing outside. It's good for the complexion (unless you burn like I do, lol) and the soul. Stay safe while you are away and remember that you have lots of people here that care about you. If you need something, let us know. My email address is raven@toheroes.com, use it anytime.
