Challenge to Mapmakers

First a big thank you to the mapmakers of HOMM IV who have given us so many hours of great fun. Without them the game would quickly become boring.  Big kudos to Insatiable, Laelth, Blue Camel, The Teacher, Youri, Jinxer and all the others who have donated so much of their time.

In particular Powerspot must be rated the first MasterPiece of HOMM IV.  It incorporates every aspect of the game and has taught us that even diplomacy can be an important skill in the right circumstances.

Now a request. Circle of Life introduced the concept of arena challenges from move 1 and Blue Camel extended this in Deep Kick.  But I would like to see mapmakers take it further.

How about a map where a player's main town is not accessible to the enemy until late in the game, but where armies can battle for shared resources from Day 1?

This allows for the concept of heroes leading small separate armies that do not need to merge until late in the game. For example you could have a small combat hero-led army and a separate mage-led army.  Losing these early battles would not be a disaster, you can flee back to your town and live to fight another day. Skills such as stealth which is of little value in current maps could become important.

Most of all multi-play would involve human to human interaction from early in the game instead of hours of computer battles with only a short human battle at the end.
Anyone else think this could be an interesting style of map?

and who is talking behind hadrian?

yes.. deep kick is a great map, just needs a good gameplay reshape in some points.. definetely a 'hold opponent main town for 3 consecutive days' script or rule.. or it may never end

.. but you never played the map (?)

oh and, i was looking at new maps page design.. i like the format of having 2 columns, altho i find it .. convenient that Lost in Space is first map on the second column

and i thought ves did the new design so i was thinkin 'oh, must be coincidence', then i scroll down to bottom of page and see "New maps page design by Jinxer."  so me mind did a 360  oh and king vs. king is at the bottom of the 1st column.. coincidence too?    granted, wasnt the greatest map, but other more pitiful 1st efforts have been given more recognition.. )

oh and.. allied maps page, seems not to work yet.. maybe it still bein worked on tho i duno

oh sorry one last thing.. can anyone tell me, what is wrong with the maps in my signature?  it seems theyve been played a grand total of 5 times or so in toh  hold off sarcasm valky/teacher i know youre lurking

I created a map like this back in Homm3, but it was at a time when everyone ignored fixed maps and would only play randoms. In the high resource areas, I placed a blocked computer opponent that had a Necropolis, to create my own version of Fog of War. It's a medium map and is designed to have several hodge podge armies, being that there are dozens of creature structres all throughout the map. Another part is that by the maps design, especially early in the game, you are restricted to using smaller creatures, however they are in abundance, until you build up wood and ore to build a fort and the remainder of your town. There are also many, many towns as well. If you are controlling the resources than you could probably even do a triple build, which would crush your opponent.

I would look at this map, as I think it does many of the things you are talking about. It's called Forts Come First.
