You're the General

If you were the head of your country's biggest terror-fighting organization how would you go about fighting terrorism around the world?   What would be your strategies on offense as well as defense?  How would you go about getting funds to help your cause?  Who would be your main target?

You're the general.  Let's see what you got.

If I Were General

First of all, the top general in the United States is called the Senior Chairman at the pentagon counsel of all the different military branch heads(which can be 4 or 5 stars). This is the highest military rank in the United States. All the pentagon heads of each military branch report to him or her. This position has always been held by an army branch general. It is generally accepted that such a position is held by the army considering that this is the largest and most encompassing of all the military branches in the United States. Secretery of Defense is above the General. Donald Rumsfeld currently holds this office. The only person/office the Secretery of Defense reports to is the President of the United States.

The question, "If you were General, then what would you do, how would you lead?", entails only the military office. In the United States, the top military office is run by a civilian office(Sec. of Defense), which is appointed by the president. Generals are appointed more so than they are elected by their superiors. They are appointed because the civilian and military superiors that have resided over their performance, historically speaking, think them to be right for the job for any number of reasons, ranging from personal, political, and otherwise.

If I were the top General I would technically have little power over most occurences stateside. Each state's Governor is in charge of each guard and reserve unit for each particular state. Because of this, the top general mostly has all of his hands tied with any major active duty operations outside the U.S. Inside the country the top general is basically an advisor to each Governor, secretery of Defense, and President of the United States.

The reason I say this is because the top General basically doesn't do jack within the country. The question posed should have been more specific asking what you would do for the major active duty military operations abroad. What people don't understand is that the top general has a very specific job. As high on the ladder as he is, he is kept in very tight check. This is very important to always remember because, as history shows with other countries and nations, america is simply too big and powerful to have the chance for a coup de etat. Generals have a lot of power among the troops they lead. This should never be forgotten if we are to remain a democratic country void of dictators.

Now to the question posed, and after having explained the chain of command a little more, I would have to answer that my leadership as general would be as closely related to Colin Powell's record as possible.

1. I would not only do my job and root out terrorists worldwide abiding by each country's rules, but I would also use each opportunity to build a relationship with those countries so as to possibly add trust between our nations. As General, those countries would simply know that I have a responsibility to the military and my superiors but after I retired they would be able to call on me for favors in efforts to further the cause of peace worldwide.

2. I would also conduct closed door meetings much in the way Reagan did with Gorbechav and throw all of my cards on the table in total honesty.

3. I would be sure to deliver a message of peace backed by my military connections and political friends worldwide and stateside.

4. I would also be kept, because of my security clearance during my time of service, in the loop for intelligence operations.

5. I would always look to support programs that exhonerated special ops missions that the world could never be told of for national security reasons.

6. Incentive is very important and your soldiers must know that they and their families can be taken care of after performing their missions. Disavowing the knowledge of their existence may be necessary but in reality I would take personal time out to ensure their were taken care of as loyal u.s. soldiers.

7. I would also support p.o.w./m.i.a lists. I would never stop campaigning for their safe return whether acknowledged by the captors or not. I would be sure to sign bills supporting secret ops that might extricate such prisoners of war.

8. My personal life would be void of dating completely. My recreation would be with my troops or the soldiers I helped secretly save or rescue from other countries.

Consis, intelligent, however I am going to assume he means "your in charge" vs, litteraly a military general.

I would hold a meeting of all the officials. There are 3 levels of active duty.
1: Remain on normal duty
2: Made up of good ones, keeping an eye open inside military personel and in civilian sectors. The duties here are hard to explain, no potential terrorists here. Which is easy because many races are considered very safe. Level 2s, are generaly incharge of security in nations where US is based, and the USA. I wont get into forigne relations, however its possible that some level 2s could be in other areas for the sake and request of other national requests.
3: The ones who are going in to hunt down terrorists in the potentialy main contaminated areas (ie, parts of the middle east). This sector, also consists of intelligence. Any form of communication including websites, must be traced down to server node locations, and eliminated. They must have no form of communications from the shadows.

I would discuss this with the officials, considering all expenditures available, all expenditures that were being spent to begin with, and all nessesary to hold this up for awhile, atleast a year.,

/i would also make different number coded lands but its to complex for e to explain here at this moment/

With this organization inline, I would inform first the leaders of the affected geographical areas, that are not belived to have connections with terrorists. However, its possible that within their boundaries, terrorists are breeding, living, conspiring, and in hiding, and until we get affirmative awnsers that the zones are terrorist free, we need to investigate.

If they say no, we would say ok fine, and surround the location with military personel section 3. If they say yes, we utilize their alowance to accomplish 2 things. Keep an eye on ground (keep in mind satilite capability) in their location, aswell as surrounding.

Now, I already said if leaders said "No" that we would then say "Ok fine" and use that peace to surround the area keeping isolation. When we get everything set up, we inform them, that if we are attacked it is considered acts of war, which we didnt ignitiate. And that they should use their security to keep thugs with guns, away from military lines. We would then negotiate with them, that were not after them unless they have affiliation with terrorists.

This should take up to one month MAX. But that is not everything thats been going on so far.. not even the least.

Now it gets confusing so I'll stop for a little bit.

You Americans think you have the panacea. Imagine a guy shooting with a machine gun in a swarm of bees. Good luck killing those crazy bees.

PS: I know they are crazy, they sting me too, but you shouldn't have gone for their honey in the first place.

"You Americans" sounds like the type of comment i point out as biased sounding. And the "very funny" point dosnt seem to fit in any context with sense or relavence.

If a sweep was performed in every possible location, it wouldn't be like shooting at a bee swarm.

Okay, I as the supreme commander of the American millitary would withdraw all of the U.S troops and equipment out of every other country around the world, And bring them home to gaurd our borders and cities. Taking care of the threat on our soil first, I  then would give limited help to other countries that are friendly towards us. I would not send an intire task force in to get rid of a few terrorists, just send in a few spec.ops and sf units to clean out the cells. As for the countries like Iraq, no matter what we do,it wont change a thing, they are still going to kill each other after we are gone so to hell with the idiots...........
