A question for other countries.
I was sitting in History class fighting to keep my eyes open when my teacher said that most other countries have very little coverage of the war in Iraq compared to ours (America). I was wondering if this is actually true.
Since the war started there has always been at least something about the war in Iraq every day in our local paper. Granted that other countries are not as involved with the war as we are, but still it is a war.

Since Norwegian troops are in Iraq under the UN mandate, and our Prime minister and Defence minister are so stupid, it's daily in newspapers, radio, tv...
Most papers (at least the ones I read; I try to keep away from the mainstream tabloids) have a daily column where they write about the situation in Iraq; where the rebels are attacing, where the US are bombing, where civilians are dying, what's happened on the abduction front since yesterday...
And stuff like that...

In Australia we were absolutely BOMBARED with Iraq coverage. We still have a bit of Iraq coverage because Australia is being a major part in this war and only because PM John Howard is Bush's muppet. Hope it will all change when Latham becomes PM (Bush hates Latham).

I'd like to point out a few things about the coverage of the war here.
1. Civilian casualties caused by us is woefully underrreported here. Some 2/3 of the civilian casualties in Iraq are caused by our troops but you wouldn't know it if you turned on the news or read U.S.A Today(our version of Pravda). Newspaper headlines scream about carbombs, kidnappings, and other nefarious acts by the insurgents. But when it comes down to airstrikes and the kind of damge they're doing to urban areas and the populace, you might get a blurb about it.
2. Speaking of airstrikes, I find it painful to have to concede that our stragtegy has shifted over the last few weeks in preparation of the upcoming presidential election. Yes folks, infantry is being pulled back and airstrikes are on the rise. I suspect that this is to minimize the daily death toll of the american soldier on our local news.

Poland is being involved a lot more than we'd like to. It's all over the news and stuff, too.

Here, its the same as in Norway - one column every day in world news section, both in papers and on the news.
Although we have few troops there, and three Macedonians construction workers were kidnapped few weeks ago (still no contact), it seems to me that nobody gives a **** about that.
Possibly because there are currently more serious things going on at home.

Check out this website. It's a summary of what we see on TV. Lots of stuff about Iraq. I think it's pretty shortsighted and narrow-minded of your teacher to make comments like that. It just propagates false assumptions.

Well as Im from Denmark, which unfortunately also is involved in Iraq, we have both TV and Paper coverage every day. Aswell as getting the presidential debates in the US live on the tele.
I was up at 3 AM watching Bush evading all substantial talk, and just repeating a mantra about how Kerry couldnt lead because he changed his opinion. Damn it doesnt look good for democracy if its possible to win an election that way.
Just avoid talking politics and what to do, and try and bash the other guy.
Its the same in Denmark. A party which is the voting party for our government is suddenly saying they are a party in the middle of the political spectrum. this is offcourse not considering the fact that their politics is closer to fascism than any other ideology.
When they are asked how they can be a middle party, they just hum, and say the other politicians are stupid.
This is a party that got 10 % of the votes at the last election.
So unfortunately its a trend in democracies at the moment.
Regards
Defreni

It is a sad thing that you points out here, Defreni. We have it in Norway as well. And not just on the Right, but on the Left as well... (why I expect it to be any difference here, I cannot explain; maybe I just thought better of my own people...)
