Well it was one point that everyone agreed on.

Demons and Necromancers shouldn't mix. Wonder what the storyline will be? Oooh...I'm getting properly excited about it now!

Well so far none of the concept art suggested an elf/human alliance.

So far it shows that at least to some extent, that some forum ideas have been listened to. Perhaps more have as well, but we'll find out more when we find out more

I Agree Lith-Maethor

I'm with you. Humans and Elves should remain seperate and only make alliances based on the needs of their seperate races. Perhaps some elves need some trees or something...lol Or perhaps the humans want to learn how to be closer with nature....hehe....

Oh and I'm glad you're posting again Lith_Maethor. In the year that I've been at Heroes Community, you haven't posted much.

Real Life (yeah i got one of those) has been kinda bark-y lately and as a result i have little time to spend to anything but one hobby (nWoD - VtR - WtF, for those that know) in any case... back on topic...

if they go the way of "high" elves it will be a shame (or not, depending on their definition of "high" ) if they stick to sylvan elves, things will be good... but none of that leprechaun-y things of HoMM4... more like Gelu's sharpshooters

To keep up your hopes:

They released a picture of a nature town earlier (or at least, it clearly looked like a nature town). In the newer screenshots, we have seen a human knight and an angel. Also, they indirectly gave away that there is a distinct human/life town. The nature town concept art most definitely did not fit the description of that.

Hence, my conclusion that the two of them are seperate towns.

So that gives us three towns, so far. A human, a nature and a demon town and they confirmed that there would be dragons in the game, but those don't seem to fit in any of the above named towns. So the fourth one is probably some kind of Warlock/Dungeon/Chaos town.

Well, I think, we should make that 4, because, what's a fantasy game without Undeads? Wouldn't be smart of them leaving those out^^

so I think it is

1)human/life/knight town
2)Nature/Rampart town
3)Evil/Inferno town
4) Necropolis

Like Svarog said, it looks as if it's gonna be some possibilities to zoom on all axes (axises?) on the adventure map. It may be that I'm just a stupid bugger, but I really can't see the need for zoom/rotation in a TBS. Sure, I guess it's useful in RTSs, and it could have been useful in former HoMM games where certain items at times where hid behind trees, mountains and stuff like that. But if this was the issue, wouldn't it be better to have just eliminated the problem in a simpler way?

In any case, I'm not an avid fan of 3D graphics (it ruined adventure games, damn its eyes!), but I guess the way the markets are today, nobody (of the spoiled kids who grew up with 3D animation) will want to begin playing a game with 2D graphics. And judging from the sentiments of posters here, it's probably not a good idea to either

a) depend entirely on the pretty large fan base, since that wouldn't be "economically responsible", and since most fans would hate a new HoMM game that didn't look exactly like H3 (ye Gods, but the H3 people are conservative! )

or

b) umm, I forgot what I was gonna write... But I think it was a good point, so I might come back and post it later if I remember it, and it turns out to be worth the trouble.

My 2 cents, I guess.

Hi there, I am new here. Nice to meet you all. I have been a big fans of Heroes series.

Actually, I am quite satisfy with hero system in heroes 4. Heroes participating in battle is a good idea for both concept and gameplay. But maybe it is not impress so many people because overall the game didn't satisfy the fans. I mean, not all the concept in the previous heroes series is that bad. Hero participatin in battle is one of it. Maybe it need a little make up to make the hero-in-battle. Lets see:
- Each character has its own sprite? for example sandro with his death angel robe.
- There only 1 hero allowed in an army
- Each 'name' should poseesed unique skill at least unique status distribution or title.

I think heroes 4 lack of those things above. Unique on status distribution isn't discriminate the each hero different. Giving them a unique skill (like previous heroes 3) with they still participated in battle IMHO will be cool. CMIIW.

I must agree with almost all the community that said Undead and demon shouldn't be mixed and that is the biggest mistake in Heroes 4 IMHO

As for the camera angle, I think in Turn-Based game, it would be a good idea to put it only for screenery purpose. So whenever you feel like exploring the world closer you may use the different camera angle. I hope the camera angle will be for that purpose. So you can still play it from the usual heroes 1-4 camera. And yes, I hope the town concept remain the same like in the heroes 1-4 in spite of its system.

Don't forget another town that's been there from the start - Barbarians.
I seriously doubt they would be left out of the game, do you?
Also the necros have to be in, it's not HOMM without them.
Plus probably at least one wizard type town dedicated to Magic.

I think we can assume at least 6 towns then.

1. Human/Castle
2. Elves/Nature
3. Demons/Inferno
4. Barbarians/Might
5. Wizards/Academy
6. Necromancers/Necropolis.

Found this on the Celestial Heavens site, a few questions answered by someone at Nival:

1. Hotseat - yes.

2. People will be able to play an H5 demo (only humans vs inferno) at the upcoming (April 1-3) KRI conference in Russia, provided that the player signs up an NDA.

3. The game is nothing like Etherlords.

4. It is pointless to ask them questions on the forum. They will release portions of information on their site, and so will Ubisoft.

5. Creatures - there is no Devil on the screens. The creatures are Balor, Succubus, Nightmare and Demon. The second screen is from the battlefield, with the Balor having just taken some health from the Angel.

6.

Btw, if you wanna check out what a "Balor" is, check this site out:

They've got information about pretty much every mythological creature from the entire world, it seems. Indispensable for a Heroes fan.

Convenient to know the names. So, which one is Balor, the guy in the foreground, or the unidentified thing in the back? The other must be demon. (I liked H3 demon so much better)
And the creauture that fights the angel is not a devil. Relief!! But is it on the piccie with the entire gang of demons, or no?

I think the Balor is the vague creature at the back.
It resembles most the spiky creature fighting with the angel.

Which still leaves the big guy in the foreground to be identified - Demoniac? Heretic?

However we're not told that this is the FULL set of creatures for the Inferno town, so the devils might be back.

Edit: Seems I was right about the 6 towns bit.
Check the official Ubi Forum for the thread 'One Real Answer' to get confirmation from Fabrice.

He also says that one will be a 'new' faction that we haven't seen before.

Well I guess Ubi would want to add a unique touch to their game, but speculation begins.

It could be that they'll split it down the middle with 3 good vs 3 evil towns.

Or they could go for 2 good/evil/neutral.

A little bit worrying is that we've had no suggestion that Barbarian/Might faction is included, we have the Nature type concept art to console all those elf fans out there.
We also have no suggestion of either a necropolis or a wizard type town either.

Supposedly in the next few weeks the town names will be revealed one by one, hopefully with some art/screenshots to accompany them.

Until then we can all just bite our nails and thank whoever's up there that we don't have any less towns than HOMM IV.

I must say that gameplay AND general design and feel are the most importatn things.

And for now, the H V unot desing is less than satisfactory (in most cases). WTF are they trying to do to the angel? It's horrible...

interesting.. in my opinion (leaving aside the manga or not manga discussion) the angel is one of the best designed creatures. at least you can interprete what it's shape means without any effort. you won't be generalizing it's shape so much when you play the game because the design looks much more clear than that of the demons. by looking at the angel you can clearly understand most of the ideas behind homm5 creature design.

I've glanced at the Etherlords website. I didn't like what I saw, but that's not the point. The point is that Nival is lying when saying H5 has nothing to do with Etherlords. The graphics are the same. You could switch the monsters between Etherlords and H5, you wouldn't notice the difference. I suppose when some people learn to do one thing (not even well...) they will keep doing it forever.
And yes, the angel is representative, indeed... it fits perfectly with what so far is only artwork in our minds (meaning the castles aspect and other preview creatures). Which sends me to a new idea: the game is not coherent: some creatures do not match others (castle vs. inferno) while none of them matches the terrain. These are scraps of ideas from other games glued together.

hmm.. what do you mean? angel is representative of creatures, yet does not match the inferno style?

if castle vs inferno style difference is too large in your opinion, then i must confess my inferior sensitivity to style differences. imho the style difference is mainly in colors and amount of cloth vs amount of thorns, and imho the castle vs inferno style difference is within reason.
