haha! can't touch your head - that's a nice one.
I was lifting weights when I was 13-14, I excercised my shoulders so much that at that time I was close to busting doors with my shoulders as I passed through I even think some of it has survived through 7 years of doing almost no excercise cuz recently when I tried lifting 25 pound dumbells all the way to my sides, I had np doing it.

Thanks!! I knew I was doing something wrong.  I will definitely incorporate this into my routine.  What is this called again?

The zombie dance!!  -  (music and above pictorals from Thriller video - Wacko Jacko)

Just a couple questions:

- In diagram 1, do you have to tilt your head to the left in your starting position? Or does this dude have a dislocated head?

- In diagram 2, do you roll your head and have both shoulders dislocate so they are offset to the right?

Can't wait to try it out

Yes, tilt the head - it makes you look hip while you do those excercises. It is highly recommended to do it in sync with the most popular club music.
Note: I did not include the stereo system in this diagram since I assumed that such things should be obvious.

he can't dislocate his arms cuz his shoulders aren't attached to his body. wtf kinda stupid question was that?

so then I should correct my previous post...
it should have read:

"russ' weight lifting for the paraplegic"

arms and legs not attached?
no problem... our trainning specialist (Russ) will treat you like a normal person while you work out your rubber arms and legs!!

Won't this cause a pinched nerve in your neck?  What music is popular at your gym? Hopefully not n-sync

From the diagram we conclude that his shoulders (arms for that matter) are not attached to his body. I guess I can also conclude by viewing the diagram, that the head, torso, and each leg are not connected as well. How are these independant body parts able to levitate and move in sync without being connected? If the arm is not attached and he grabs the dumbell, won't the arm remain with the dumbell on the ground?

I never said "play music that's popular at the gym" I said "popular club music" that is popular at the clubs YOU go to.

Man, you are killing me here... stickmen live in 2 dimensional universe, so our laws of physics do not apply to them. I thought everyone knew that.

This buddy of yours wouldn't happen to be the stick man would it??  The stick man's head is so small, his shoulders would have to be double jointed for him to touch his own head.

I am envious of the stickman  Flexability, never any joint pain, etc... I think he does need some traps though

Back to the subject on shoulders:

What Russ is talking about is an exercise known as dumbell lateral raises... works the side portion of your deltoid.  If you raise the dumbell straight out in front of you (around eye level), you will hit more of your front deltoid muscle.  Shoulder presses also hit your front deltoids, as do regular bench press and incline press (indirectly).  It is very easy to overtrain shoulders, which can eventually lead to injury.

Most common shoulder injuries at the gym come from lifting too heavy all the time.  This causes a strain or tear on the rotator cuff.  Doing rotator cuff exercises 2x a week is not only a good way to help rehab a bad shoulder, but also a good way to help prevent shoulder injuries.

uh... thanks.

but I was looking for an exercise without weights.

(you can read right?)

.. and when doing the lat raises in front of your body, you can do them 2 ways...

palm down or palm to the side...  i find that when my palms (closed of course around the weight) is facing to the side (where the dumbell is pointing up and down), I get a better burn.

I just thought if it a bit more...
Besides working the shoulders directly with the weights, chinups work a lot of muscles in that area (especially - the muscle behind your arm on your back - it makes your chest look bigger ).
I think pushups work the shoulders as well. To train more different muscles with the pushups you can diversify them by doing 1-arm, wide, close ones, one arm backwards/one forward, on your fists, on your fingers, etc. I don't think all of those muscles can be done with the weights (i.e. the ones you train when you do pushups on your fingers or fists).

man im sooo glad I asked!

if you're gonna do pushups for shoulders you'd have to do them declined (like in a handstand position)

ok so back to flammin'...

you and lee going off and socializing behind the scenes??
you both dissapear and all of a sudden there's a new thread that you've both posted in... sounds suspicious.
