i think ice elementals are getting overlooked. it is hard to say for sure what the best lvl 3 unit is, but ice elemental should be in the top 3 lvl 3 units in my opinion

Ice ellies have a basic growth of 6. 1 lower than most others. On the other hand, they have 30 hp. Double the amount of orcs and elves. 50% more than dragflies.

Have to agree with Angelito: Dogs=More Demons. How often do you really get to use the cool 3-headed attack before they get killed anyway? Much better to skip the Kennel upgrade and turn the Hell Hounds into demons. The economics are much better for sacrificing Hell Hounds than Imps anyway... unless you're getting those Imps for free.
People are missing an important point about Griffins: in the late game, you can fly a huge stack over a wall, maximize their unlimited retal, then use your Archangels to resurrect a bunch all over again! This is great fun and gives you a little more time to put a hole in the wall for your ground forces.
Orcs are disappointing in all ways. I only buy them to soak up damage.

My favourite in this level is royal griffin. Really, nothing beats unlimited retaliations. Those animals come in great numbers are excelently balanced and very fast. A true menace for enemy archers. Like someone said: just 'Send them right in the middle of the battlefield. Everyone who comes will get some'

Evil Eyes. They deal decent damage to oncoming units and have no melee penalty, so even for long battles they still serve plenty of purpose unlike other level three shooters. Then I'd say iron golems, they are just brilliant to have in your army.

This is a difficult decision. I like 3 creatures from this rank and in different situations they do their job very well : Grand Elves , Cerber , Royal Griffins.

apart from orcs and wraiths, all the level 3 units can be pretty useful.
I would say evil eye, for they can shoot and have a good defense.
dragonflies can be quite awesome too.

you have a point there Fauch. Dragonflies are probably the most important creature for the Fortress faction. If their speed was slower then fortress creatures would arrive in combat very late. Plus the weakness ability comes very handy.

Absolutely Grand Elf !!
Although I am a castle user, I think that Grand Elf would be best among third characters.
Damage is not that bad, and even can shoot two times!!

1 nuke on those elves and they're gone.
That's why I prefer golems - very hard to kill+ 70% dmg reduction from spells upgraded. Best unit to defend a siege also.
