Here's just an idea to mull over.  If a person donates $5 then he gets a blue ribbon on his member profile.  $20  gets a blue shield.  $50 gets a blue coat of arms on the member profile.  That way you can recognize the benefactors without cluttering up the regular HC pages with blue stars and whatnot.  Then every year the member profiles are reset.
Quote:

Quote:
Heres a couple of things that I have thought of:
1- When a person say donates about $50 to HC, then their Flood Protect will go away for maybe 2 or 3 days.
2- When a person maybe posts more than 1000 posts, then they have no flood portect for ever, and then if their posts get deleted, and their post count drops below 1000, then their flood portect will go to the normal.
3- If you get over $100 then you will get a blue star, and that means that you will get no flood protect, and you can visit the Mod squad section thingy for 1 day only.

lets look up the meaning of "donate"
To make a contribution or give to a fund or cause,

that means that you dont get a reward cause you are giving them a gift

if Val wanted money then he should put some ads on the AOH web site. there is alot of space on the sides. he could also put another one of those ads at the bottom of the page. i wouldnt care if he did. he would probably make more money from that then he would from donations and even with a few more ads, HC would still have less ads than most other places

all this talk about getting rewards for donating isnt donating, its called purchasing

i dont mean to be so harsh its just my opinion on this donating subject

and

Miru, I've already addressed that point in an earlier post.

Quote:
Including other kinds of contribution in this system (site help, ex-moderators, great ideas etc) would be very difficult, create a lot of extra work and debate about who deserves it, who doesn't, and how much. So I think if it is to be made, it needs to stay purely as an indication of financial contribution - that leaves no debate as to who is elligible.

It seems that some of you have taken this idea too far. This isn't a moneymaking scheme or a scheme that allows people to purchase privelleges. It's simply recognition. And I feel like people are threatened by someone having a star or two that don't do anything

I think putting it into profile only would undermine it as we only check out profiles of a few people, and for the rest we just glance at the left column. I also think resetting it every year wouldn't be fair.

People making demands on the basis of having made a donation is simply not true from my experience. People who are not happy and make demands tend to never make donations. People who make donations tend to not be unhappy or make demands. I haven't yet seen an exception from this.

What stars do is indicate to us at a glance how much a person has posted, how much of what they posted was recognised as quality. These stars would indicate "this person supported HC by a donation or sponsored a feature". Is this something you want to know at a glance about a member or is it something that should not be known? Does that indication somehow make you or others feel supperior or inferior? Useful or useless information? And hypothetically, if you were to donate/sponsor are you proud of it or do you fear some kind of negative reaction from others?

Wow Val, this is the first time in my life that I have ever been outwisdomed.  Once again I bow to the master.

@Lord_PC:  by my estimate probably 90% of all contribution collection systems in the world have a feature whereby the donor is given recognition, whether by getting their name inscribed on a brick, or getting their name printed in the concert program leaflet, or whatever.  A system such as we are discussing now would only bring HC into compliance with the WSUCHR (Worldwide Standard Unwritten Code for Human Relationships.)

My only concern is visual clutter.  We already have a green dots, yellow stars, red stars, mod indicators, HC statuses, and custom statuses.  Basically I'm saying that I wouldn't have anything against this idea if it was implemented in an subtle manner.  (for example collecting blue stars I think would be over the top in terms of visual clutter)

Even though I am the first one to be banned, I would be willing to pay a bit for a better banning system. Common good is a bit more important for me than my own (who really cares about me? I just make a donation and **** off!)

Normally (unless I am wrong), only an account of a member is banned/silenced. That person usually takes a new account and continues his/her criminal activity. These type of people don't really care about stars, because it doesn't matter if you spam with 1 star or with 5 stars.

What I invented is banning an IP account. I made a little brainstorm and came up with some ideas:

1. Internal Firewall
You create an internall firewall (that's how I call it, in your programmer's jargon you will call it something else) that won't allow 'banned' IP to register or even look at the content of the page (you were foolish enough to spam, now face the consequences!)

2. Password.
IMO, the easiest one to make. For each banned user, you create a password, so that every time they want to access the site, they need to say it. You (Valeriy), can be merciful and allow minor banned to look at the content, though there would have to be another password blocking the register page.

3. Not a good one.
This is the last one. It is neither really effective nor rightful. It is about creating a program (C++, Pascal, even assembler for masochists ) that would disable watching the content of heroescommunity.com . The procedure would be simple - every time a user is banned, this little thingy installs on his computer (yes, you were right - a spyware!). Every month you would have to replace the program, since all antiviruses would provide protection against it.

How and how much am I supposed to pay?

BTW: How hard it is to implement an IP blockade for banned users? I plan to do the same in my own forum...

This one's simple, it shouldn't cost anything.

In HCM, when you reply to a reply, it changes the Re: to Re x 2:, or if it is Re x #:, it adds on to the number.

Val should know what I mean, because I do that manually on all of my HCMs.

If you aren't going to sponsor your feature, best not put it in the sponsor thread.

Hmm, I've always associated stars with posts and input of that type. In that light I don't think stars should be used for sponsoring or donations; a ribbon in the profile for sponsoring would be the way to go about it.

The IP ban feature is present in pretty much every free messageboard script. But this is not the thread to discuss this.

Miru will also find that even though the deleted post is displayed it is missing from the inbox. Adding re x N is an unnecessary feature in my opinion.

This thread is for sponsored feature discussion only. The rest may be deleted from now on since people are not listening to polite requests.

Ok, we'll drop the blue stars idea. I think I've come up with a better way using all of your ideas. People who make a donation/sponsorship will be an "HC Patron" for a year forward. And there will also be the "HC Vault" which is like the development fund. I've come up with some HOMM graphics for it - I'll keep the exact details a secret for now. I'll just say that the Vault won't be mentioning people's names, which seems to be a common preference.

This way contributors will get recognition in a relatively anonymous way that does not rank or score them in any way.

Animated avatars: keep making them, let's aim for 5-10kb size, but a little bit over is ok, I find I can optimize them some more. E-mail them to me as you make more. I think we can make them available to members with 4 red stars and to patrons.

Kookastar's new feature, the KookaBar (right click the gray pic, then properties ) is ready and operational. It can now be found on New Post, Post Reply and Edit Post pages. I will apply it later to New/Edit Poll pages. Currently FireFox browser does not support applying code to selected text - that might be fixed in the future. A bunch of new BBCode has been added along the way, as I like to do things good And of course all new BBCode will also work in your HCMs

Thank you Kookastar for supporting this major improvement! I'm enjoying using it as I type this message

I think a simple on eis that you should be able to copy your thing if you made a post from a Word document, and it contains a table of stats or anything, then you should be able to copy all of the words and the table from the word document, and then just simply copy and paste it here into your post, thats what I did with my best lev6 unit in HOMM2, but it couldn't get the 2 tables in that I really wanted to put in, i was a bit dissapointed by that.
You should be able to do that without putting it in Photobucket or some other website and then have the [IMG]blahblahblah{IMG] thing, you should just be able to simply copy and paste it.
Thats what I think

I want HC, and us as a community to have a history

I have an idea for implementing this.

What we do is we set up a special HC history page.  The page consists of a series of entries, one for each day.  Each entry contains a link to the hottest threads for that particular day.  (the way that I envision this is that the hottest three threads are there plus any other threads which exceed a certain threshhold, for example 6 posts in 24 hours).  Also, when you link through to these "hot" threads you will be linked to the part which corresponds to that particular day.

Then after each entry in the diary, HC members will be able to post short comments (with a limit of two lines for example, one smiley, no pics).  I think this will provide an excellent type of daily "diary" for recording the daily goings-on here.

BTW #1 I haven't yet thought of a way to include VW in this, which I think it should be.
BTW#2: I'm not sure but I think you can do this retroactively too, all the way back to the beginning.

I'm willing to pitch in 10$ U.S, anybody else?

Beware! This is also the name of an evil artifact (from that Heavy Metal movie), I have been told. But nobump edit shouldn't be too much of an effort even for you.

Seriously, the donation has been made, but Valeriy and I have decided to delay the implementation until a decision about the edit restriction is made, since its usefulness seemed to depend on that.

But I just got a very clear hint that my frequent editing gets on the people's nerves, so it might be of use to me (for making myself more popular or less unpopular, that is ) even if I can't use it on older posts. So, from my side, Valeriy could go ahead.

@FOG: that would be quite a bit of work to both implement and maintain.

I've implemented the change of delete/edit lock on posts over 1 year old. Moderators can still delete/edit old posts of course.

Loknar Stealth Edit has been implemented - please test it

Also a little bonus - all Edited by signs, for edits made from now onwards, will display correct date and time, in your time zone.

Thanks to Loknar for sponsoring this upgrade
